When I was a teenager there was an well-known apostate in this area who was a bit older, maybe 25 or so. He was the brother of a woman who went to the hall that we did. HE WAS HOT! I remember seeing him in service one day and everyone in the car-group whispering, "oh how incredibly sad, that's so-and-so's brother, he's gone the way of apostacy." I thought to myself, if that's what an apostate looks like, count me in. I've heard that he actually went back to the JW's recently due to 9-11 and believing it to be a sign of armageddon being "right around the corner"...which....is such a stupid phrase.
out of the 5 weekly meetings, here are the ones i hated the most.. in order.
1. theocratic ministry school ( i hated speaking in public) got me so nervous.. 2. service meeting ( too much crap and statistics and presentations).
3. the book study ( just a waist of time ).
All of the ones i was forced to go to before i turned 15.
I was often high at the thursday night ('theocraptic' ministry school and service meeting) so no idea what those were ever really about, besides hearing mispronounced words and bad grammar.
The watchtower reading was the cruelest form of torture known to man. I think it should be a suggestion submitted to the FBI for ways of making people talk.
And how does anyone ever endure an assembly?

The original subject of this post, Cyg's parents...I can personally affirm that they are wonderfully supportive and understanding parents. He is truly blessed in that area. I met them a few times, and Cyg always spoke highly of them, and he was right. They're amazing. His dad is very sick but still maintains such a presence about him, and still has such intelligence, and his mom is the most caring hard-working person you could ever meet. If only all JW's could be like that. And truth be known, even Cyg's ex-wife who is a JW is a model of how a person should be. Despite her being a witness even AFTER the divorce when Cyg needed help she always would offer assistance. They grow them differently in Buffalo perhaps. My mom is a JW and my step-father. I was never baptized because I went to live with my father once my mom became a JW ( I opposed it even at age 15) so it isn't quite the same, but I'll tell you, they came all the way back from their District Convention to help me bury my dog this Sunday. It's good to see the occasional exception to the rule.
since it seems people have trouble with percieving the transparency of others, i thought the idea of a "thread" for this was dy-no-mite!
(not only that but i also have a knack for mischief).

I don't want sympathy Retro, only respect. And I really REALLY don't want this to turn into a what happened here and on JWO in March. Firstly, there are so many more important things to be discussed, and I thank you for your interest and support, and the fun we always have being trolls on yahoo. But your timing sucks, and let's be honest, Cyg left yahoo, I think maybe the constant fighting had put him in a bad place. If you read his posts on here, they are to friends that he has known for years, that he reaches out to for support. We all need that don't you think? He just lost a dog Retro, we both did, but the difference is, I had 6 more really great months with Marly. Cyg has not had a good run of it lately, and everyone knows that. It borders on cruelty to kick someone when they're down. No, it is cruelty. Your hatred of Cyg pre-dates what had happened in March. And you were a big support to me during that time, so allow him his support too. And I KNOW you feel it is your duty to always speak your mind, you gotta pick the times to be empathetic though Ret. I wanted to post this in public because you too are not a bad person. And I don't want you to be known as that. You're usually a very sweet mild person, and I know what nerves are touched with you. So lay off Cyg, and maybe they'll lay off you, and things will just die down here ok? I'll see you back in chat once I get the firewall I need. Ta-ta.

Hi Annie and thank you for the warm welcome. You're absolutely right. The victim mentality is limiting and places you a position of having no choice but to stay stuck so to speak.
What contributed to that awful day in February was 2 people that were very unhealthy with each other and themselves. When you alienate yourself from the rest of the world and become extensions of each other, the relationship becomes doomed. I've since found out that you have to respect the other person as who they are, and accept nothing but respect back for who you are. It's a matter of knowing yourself, and striving to keep up with the responsibility you have towards yourself to be a good person.
You also come to a point where you accept that people make horrible decisions sometimes in times of weakness. And I was no stranger to that weakness myself. I did horrible things, and if I can forgive myself for that, I can certainly forgive others in my life. At the same time a person has a responsibility towards themselves that if the person they forgive isn't living up to being respectful of themselves and others then maybe it's time to just cut your losses. And sometimes you just choose to be patient with yourself and others.
Heh, I think I'm beginning to sound like a self-help book, but thanks Annie, for your clear understanding.

Thanks Jonesy. Cyg and I have been talking on and off for about 5 months. Really, if I may speak for Cyg too, we're just working on being better people individually, since we were awfully destructive and ugly at the end. If you work on yourself, you can't go wrong. You can't help but to bring better things into your life. So that's where I'm at.
