Just using his age as an example.

Since there was no overlapping generation in 70CE that applied, the great tribulation came before all the apostles died of old age. However, the same thing was expected to happen with reference to 1914 but those guys passed away and even everybody else that was alive in 1914 died almost completely if not completely as of now so the generation prophecy can only find fulfillment in a anointed overlapping generation. No other explanation as Brother Splane explained.

So when is the actual latest deadline with the overlapping new light?

There is no new light The deadline was in the past before the death of Brother Fred Franz more or less.

Because the great tribulation dd not occur back then, the only explanation for that is that the definition of generation involves a younger age group living on borrowed .time.

I realize that there are diverse views on what the prophecy means but I was just focusing on wt interpretation and I’m only saying that overlap is valid and the last and only definition of generation left given 1914.

this generation" refers consistently to Christ's own evil generation.

In Mathew 17:17, what generation is Jesus referring to? His Apostles? So it seems. At the Olivette so it seems that Jesus iss referring to his contemporaries evil generation but closer reading reveals that since no sign would given to that evil generation, this generation at the olivette refers to his disciples who were given the sign: “ What will be the sign of your parousia. Jesus proceeds to give the sign not the the evil generation which no sign would be given to except the sign of Jonah, but the sign would be given to his disciples, the generation that would not pass away until all these things occur. Similarly if you apply to 1914 the sign and the generation it refers to the anointed and not to people in general.

So, what the title of the thread means is... thousands now living will never die?

No. Thousands of anointed must die to go to heaven but millions or more of the great crowd will never die!

My point is that everybody that was at least born in the year 1914 ( except for a couple of cats ) kicked the bucket aka passed away. But Jesus said that a generation linked with his tribulation prophecy which he refers to as “this generation” ( but does not identify it ) would not pass away “until all these things occur” —which includes the great tribulation.

I am looking at this prophecy not from personal views expressed by some here but as WT interprets its fulfillment relative to 1914. Given WT interpretation of 1914 is correct ( and it is! ) the only possible definition of generation that will not pass away is the overlap. There is no other possible definition so the great tribulation must hit shortly before the second group of anointed die off.

Reasons for doubting.

somebody mentioned in a recent topic that they had a conversation with a former elder whose breaking point was when the overlapping generation was highlighted in recent times and how he would never serve again until somebody gave him a scriptural reason to believe it.

i am in a similar position.

i have gone in the last 18 months from taking the wt study, leading fs groups, and doing talks on the mtngs to doing almost nothing, as i resigned a little over a year ago as an elder due to a combination of family responsibilities and huge doubts.

Free Will - Does It or Does It Not Exist?

jehovah created humans.

jehovah created humans as free moral agents.

Since the future exists according to prophecy and the future is about conduct people have not yet decided upon, it could be argued that free will doesn’t exist and a person has no choice because it is already written in the future but that is like saying that God created Satan knowing what he would do and then blame God for knowingly creating evil. So it seems but by nature of the qualities that describes YHWH, he is just and good and if a person did not truly have a choice to begin with and was predestined to do evil then the God of the Bible could not exist.

The great tribulation will “shortly” hit any day now just as wt has been saying all along and since it will happen before the new generation of “anointed” passes away, this would prove that the latest generation definition of inter-lapping anointed is right on the money. No other definition of generation is possible to fulfill the prophecy: “This generation will by no means pass away..” —Which according to wt is based on passing away with relation to the year 1914.

You also have to define what do you mean by free will because a cat does whatever it wants but does that mean it has free will? Actually animals act on instinct but humans can choose whether or not they will obey laws or moral standards.
