  Ya know, in one sense, I can relate to folks not wanting to get their street address shanghied (sp?) It's a major pain! but I know Florida all too well to ignore this thread.

  Cullen Smith said he would have preferred to name the street after Abraham Lincoln, who he said had done "more for the black people than just about anybody."

  Interesting topic in itself. I beg to differ...Here are some more folks who aren't familiar with the history of 1) what Lincoln was actually doing and why 2) how Florida was 'attained' in the first place.The Floridians hated Lincoln! The history of Florida is amazing, but I won't go into that now...

  But I wonder, sincerely, what would have happened if they did vote to rename the street after Lincoln?

  today while at work at reminsing about the old days as a joe wit i recalled what a horrible life sisters had in the truth.

  if conducting a study in they must wear head scarfs, they were not allowed to give talks alone, they had a very strict dressing standard, makeup, dresses, jewerly, they couldnt even apply for bethel (at least when i was younger there were hardly any single sisters in bethel).

  conjurs up images of a friendlier burgaless society with polyster suits.

  i don?t remember exactly where in jw-land i heard these experiences, but i believe they were passed around through word of mouth rather than through assemblies or publications.

  urban legends?

  you decide.. experience #1. faithful jw girl is dating a fellow who is studying (or was recently baptized) in order to win her love rather than because he believes jw doctrine.

  Few Black/African people on this board

  a while ago it was asked what your ethnic background was and only 2 said they were some percent black.

  why do you think few black people actively speak out against wt?

  few african-americans can be seen protesting at assemblies.

  Gespro: African/Native American (which, by the way, many of us so called African/Americans are...)

  Oh, we're here. But some don't feel the need to wear it like a badge until some insensitive fool crosses the line. You know who you are...

  I've seen posts here that have set humanity back about 100 years. On the other hand I also see sensitive people who have been hurt, abused and tossed about like they don't count in life. That hurts me to see anyone mistreated in such a way.

  I don't want to be narrow minded when it comes to humanity. The us/them kind of thinking has never been a part of my life when it comes down to skin color. It's a weak conveinient way to group a people together - by skin color. Approaching it this way, we don't have to think beyond the visual and we can just packege this one or that one into a stereo type.

  Yes Puter it's been a rough one...

  There arwe some days I feel I've conquered the nonsense this cult has put us through but, the, WHAM! I'm back to my confused, angered state. I'd say thisboard helps me to regain the perspective I've been without most of my life.

  I am still amazed by the varying personalities on this board. Some aggravate me and some soothe me. I'm learning about the reality part of life that went missing in the 'idealogical' life my mother fooled me into believing in. No one else on this earth can truely understand us except those who have lived through it. I'm seeing some real healing that can come only from a Discussion board like this one.

  Last night was rough for me. I paced the driveway at 3AM, looked up and saw that the moon was (I guess) full. Figures! When it's around that time, I usually get a bit stir crazy. So, maybe this might have an unseen effect on the majority of us, you included. I have seen it happen to others...

  Take care and hang in there. It gets better.
