I just finished Crisis of Conscience...

thanks to ray franz for writing it.

parts of the book have been talked about on the board before, but holy $#!+...seeing page upon page of evidence kept my jaw in a constant drop.... a few thoughts.... >franz seems to have little malice for the org, and it shows in the book.. >i looked at it with a very skeptical eye (as i do everything) and tried to see it from the perspective of a witness who sincerely believed.

i was still floored by the callousness of the comments of these people.. > control really does seem to be the watchword for these folks, and they've trained the rank and file well.

For starters, a person who doesn't keep their word. A person that demeans others, put downs.

The following two are annoying, a person who chews food with their mouths wide open. A person when having a meal sounds like their having soup, slurp, slurp, smack, smack.

Feedback please - letter from Mom

i just got a surprisingly nice letter back from my mom.

in my last letter to her i made a comment that a 10 year old in 1914 would be 100 now and that she must think the end is very near (that was the current light when i got df'ed.

) i did that on purpose to get her to tell me about the 1995 doctrine change.

i must say that i have been lurking around this place for a good long while.

to know that you are not alone in your quest to escape the watchtower is one of the best ways to actually do it.. right now i'm 18, but became an unbaptized publisher at 12. i blew those elders away with my skill at parroting back the wts doctrine, and for a while, i was faithful enough in service, which i didn't really enjoy, but i had to do it to live, right?

we went to meetings regularly, even thosugh i simply dreaded the boredom and the inevitable guilt i would feel.

Greetings and welcome EPS. Since your mom is starting to study, you at least have some breathing room. You may want to 'gently' share the things you've discovered, and let her decide and think on her own. It's a start.

Are Christians harmless?

first off....let me qualify something.

lets keep this to modern day christians in civilized lands.. many on this board are non-believers, and there are quite a number of christians.....so we have a mix.. non believers feel they need to speak out concerning what they have come to understand regarding the bibles authenticity to believers because they feel these ones need to at least see the sceptical side so they can make an honest choice.. believers feel they need to speak out to others concerning what they have come to understand about salvation.

here's the deal..............if believers can live a happy, good, healthy life, and take this to the grave with them..........should a non-believer try to mess all that up.....or leave well enough alone?.

When they're under control, YES! Maybe the question should be, are most humans harmless? As long as there will be wars and reports of wars, innocent folks will suffer.
