soccer is not that popular in the us and that is a obscene amount of money to pay a player and i am surprised that david beckham would want to finish out his career playing in the us.

Believer, Agnostic or Atheist?
by lfcviking ini am curious, what amount people on this board from their experiences of being a baptised & active jw and their subsequent exit from the jw org (for whatever reason or reasons) are now either agnostic, atheist or do some actually still believe in god?.

You've chosen a good topic. I'm a strong believer not in god but a CREATOR. This belief did not come by having been a JW, but in my young manhood.
My culture does not have a static entity called god, but rather, when this entity (Sa,ha, qwa, dis, em) is translated in English it's, "one who made us."
I do not impose my beliefs on this Creator to others.

How Dysfunctional A Witness Were You?
by minimus inreading posters' comments help me to see that since leaving "the organization", many have gotten emotionally better.
of course, you don't have to be a witness to have dysfunction but feeling the pressure of always being told that we are inferior, that we're not doing enough, can get to the best of us!
looking back, how dysfunctional were you??

You hit the nail on the head when you said, '...we were not doing enough." The organization keeps one's mind in a low self-esteem compartment. This is mind control at it's best. This type of control is not love by any stretch of the imagination.

Do you sense the need to defeat or destroy the Watchtower lessening? I do.
by nicolaou indespite all the shunning crap - or perhaps because of it - i feel less inclined to take positive action against the watchtower these days.
perhaps it's just a temporary malaise or maybe it's that the organisation i looked up to for so long now seems small, petty and trivial and frankly i just don't want to waste my time and energy on it.. what do you think..

What were your reasons for becoming a JW?
by Narkissos inreasons, not excuses -- even valid ones (like, "i was ignorant, depressed, fooled").. yours in the sense that you can still own (to) them -- even though you now know the "answer" was wrong.. this obviously applies to those who became jws -- hence mostly not born-in, although some of the latter might admit to having chosen the jw way for themselves at a certain stage of their childhood or teenage years.. this question is triggered by a previous conversation with purplesofa on another thread:.
i think most of us that came in and not born in were searching.
our hearts were pure in our search.

My mom was a very domineering women, so, to get out from under her excessive control, going to meetings and service was FREEDOM! You gotta understand I'm talking about the late 40's and begining of the 50's. Life was much much much different then. I have six brothers and she would limit out freedoms. She had this spirit before coming a witness, it just carried over. I could say more, but, enough said.

Man's inventions and putting these inventions to good use has been a marvel. We all have benefitted from such inventions. Such creations should inspire and give us hope.
When it comes to natural wonders, there is without doubt the making of another life, the baby, that is mind boggling and awe inspiring. Man has tried duplicating such a feat but can't. Amazing how 'within' the male sperm and female egg, magical things appear. Many thanks for your thoughts.
