I think it makes him look like a hunky beefcake. Sorry, Angharad, I'm not trying to steal your man away, I just call it like I see it.

Why is it even ex JW's run scared when they hear the word apostate?
by happehanna ini just told them where i work as a volunteer, that i am going to a workshop for those that have left a cult tomorrow.
they were all fascinated and wanted to know which cult i had belonged to.
i said jw's and this one guy said i he used to be one of them.

Of course, JWs will define "apostate" any way they want to; it becomes a label that scares many from pursuing freedom of thought.
Webster's defines it as One who has forsaken the faith, principles or party, to which he before adhered, esp. one who has forsaken his religion for another; a pervert, a renegade. Or, as one who, after having received sacred orders, renounces his clerical profession.
JWs would do well to consider if their current course is, in fact apostacy (many came from other faiths they once adhered to, right?) and if they are prepared for the responsibility that includes. (I'm not one bit serious here!)
They've got it all worked out, huh. No wonder some people actually go back and get reinstated.

I must say, if that's Stacey's pic, she's pretty brave.

Hi StaceyJo!
There will always be some Witnesses will want to impose extra rules like these, making little things seem so monumental. My advice - just ignore it, go on about doing things the way you feel comfortable. If it doesn't make them happy, so what? Making them happy isn't what life (or worship) is all about, is it? The more you try to please these picky individuals, the more they ask of you, until it becomes unbearable.
Even though this board is mostly exJWs. There are some here who are still involved, like me, trapped temporarily. Most out here on this board are pretty much non-believers. There are some who do believe, just would like certain things to change. Actually, I don't know of any place on the web where there are Witnesses who want to question things or complain, but are generally ok with status quo. You can learn a lot on this page, and get some great support, too.

Bullied JW Child
by desib77 ini know this has been shown once before but when i read it again today and saw the boy crying in the courtroom it just made me sick with anger.
i'm so angry that the jw's let their children stick out so much that they get teased and picked on.
i'm angry that this boy was punished when defending himself.

Wow, I saw this story on the news last night. I hadn't heard the kid was a Witness. I wondered why the parents wouldn't let him stand up for himself. I can't help but wonder if part of the reason he's picked on is because of the lack of social skills a JW kid would have.
Of course, lots of kids are picked on all the time, so you can't really blame the witnesses for it. But he's already at a disadvantage, socially, if he thinks he's different or elite, or must stay away and not associate. It's really an injustice, what JW parents are setting their kids up for. But they don't care.
There's a woman in my building at work who I think is a witness because I thought I saw her at a circuit assembly. Anyway, she's got this weirdness about her, this funny look on her face that just screams "I'm a social misfit!", goes to lunch by herself everyday. It's sad. That story reminds me of this.

Few Black/African people on this board
by Joker10 ina while ago it was asked what your ethnic background was and only 2 said they were some percent black.
why do you think few black people actively speak out against wt?
few african-americans can be seen protesting at assemblies.

Sabine, yes, I know what you mean. When I was younger, my dad made sure I never got too close to black guys, and even hispanics. And now my brother wants to marry a hispanic girl and it's a big issue with the parents. Where is the love? It's all so 1950s. I think it's changing, ever so slowly, though.

I wanted to reply on this thread yesterday, but then decided not to. What I feel is interesting is Joker10 hasn't replied to all the people asking him/her to clarify... just left the question and the thread hanging there.
Where is joker10?

I got this response off another site. It's what I plan to use:
"I needed a break to re-examine my beliefs and study to make sure I knew the truth." This is suitably vague. It uses JW trigger phrases like "the truth" which reassures them you still are still part of the collective (and how could you ever discover that The Truth is not the truth?). It also gives them hope for the future which allows them to postpone forcing an unpleasant confrontation now, and as you know, JW's are highly conditioned to indefinite waiting for the fulfillment of their hopes for the future. "
Good luck with it!

To the theists (Christian or otherwise)....
by logansrun inmy question to you: why does god permit evil?
this is not a bait but something i'd really like to get your view on.
thanks.. bradley

He's allowing evil to permeate the earth until he decides to put an end to it once and for all. Then, he won't allow it ever again.

Fudging on "Field Service Report"
by Clinton inwhen i was a jdub i used to write down whatever hours i wanted to write down.
when i was pioneering for 7 years i would add a few hours to my time each month so that i wouldn?t fall too far behind.
even when i wasn?t pioneering though i would inflate my hours a bit sometimes so i wouldn?t have the elders hounding me about my time and also so i could hold a ?position?.

Field service reports. One of the most annoying things they could be doing. First century christians didn't do that, and isn't it letting your right hand know what your left hand is doing, or something? Isn't it like, pagan or something? I'm sure if we looked hard enough we could find something pagan about it that their precious consciences could be bothered by.
I liked to bring the averages down a notch, so I stopped caring what got put on the report.
