I'm with scully & countrygirl on this. That kid needs to learn that ratting people out is not cool. She's the one I would be worried about here... she could grow up to be a big pain in everyone's backside one day over this type of thing. If she sees she can do this type of thing, searching through her mom's stuff and finding things, then reporting to the elders, imagine what type of person she could grow up to be, what type of witness? Definitely a troublemaker. So your sister needed to avoid disfellowshipping. So she lied and it might have destroyed the trust of her daughter, but the kid, I don't know how old she is, needs to see things for what they are, that black and white thinking has got to stop. Sounds like her mom or you could maybe help her with that.

Does Your JW Family Do This?????????
by Wild_Thing inokay ... here's what happened .... first, some background ... i am the youngest of three daughters raised in the org (we are third generation), and i left for good more than four years ago (i left in my heart a long time before that).
they tried to shun me for a while, but couldn't keep it up any longer than 6 months, and after that we slowly got close again.
my mother and sisters are all still witnesses.

JW morality: is it from virtue or calculating self interest?
by True North injws love to congratulate themselves for being -- as they see it -- morally superior to "worldly" people.
however, if one does something right to get a reward (eternal life in paradise, status in the congregation) or refrains from doing something wrong to avoid punishment (death at armageddon, disfellowshipping), is that virtue or calculating self interest?
is virtue only what one does and not why?

All Christianity is set up that way, probably most religions are. For people who believe in Karma, you can say the same thing.
What makes JW "morality" so painful to watch is knowing they have swallowed the storty that they are the only people on the planet with high moral standards. That's just delusional.

This study was pretty funny. First, they warn of the terrible things that will happen to apostates, that Jehovah will laugh when what they fear most happens to them. Then later, they say this is meant spiritually, not physically (some apostates might seem to prosper materially "for a time"). Oh. How lame. Kinda like the way they said Jesus was coming and then when it didn't physically happen, it must have happened spiritually. Yeah, right.
Actually, the opposite is probably true. Seems to me "apostates" are very spiritual people, probably more than they were before. And for the ones, like me, who might not believe in most religious things, at least I have an interest in knowing about its history and how it shapes the world today. That's more spiritual than I was before. The extent of my spirituality before was all about what I could or couldn't do around my JW friends and family. Otherwise, I didn't want to think about any of it.
And it's funny too, how the process of finding their "eternal happiness" is so freaking unnatural, they need to give advice on how to make bible reading something a person might actually like to do. Shouldn't that have been insulting to these people who take so much pride in their spirituality? That's like admitting they don't have any.

Let's share the good memories from the org.
by anew ini got this idea from the thread about fun.
you know, today is different, i have some good memories from years ago, cake after bookstudys, kiddie parties, intermissions, mcdonalds for break at field service.
happy elders who would tease me as a little girl and carry me from door to door.

Jehovah's "happy" people.
I think after always having that drilled into you and being told how "happy" you were supposed to be, the happiest people on the earth, you don't feel much like having a Watchtower pep rally now. Sorry. Like somebody said, there was always a shadow hanging over everything. That's why I finally couldn't stand any of it any more.

Funny. That one should go down as a "don't" in the next KM. Sisters, don't check up on strange women known by brother touchy feely, they could be potential bible studies, and that wouldn't make for a good witness for jehovah, would it?

How many times did they use "Jesus command" in that article? As if Jesus only had that one command. I guess where the documents state Jesus didn't want his people to judge others, that was only a suggestion, not a command?
They really have that psychological stuff down, but will they use it for evil or for good? I wonder. I'm convinced they know what they are doing, from the top down to at least the CO level.

They need MORE $$$$$
by TallTexan ini haven't been to a meeting in years, but i was recently told by a friend of mine that they have really been hammering the 'use of your valuable things in support of the kingdom' in many of the talks and thursday night parts.
i know they used to mention it all the time, but he said it's gotten really bad lately.
i told him that's because the membership in the western (translate that to "richer"...lol) countries has really fallen off and even become negative in many countries and that the 3rd world countries can't contribute enough to support the great publishing empire.

Talk about BS. The funny thing is they talk like they are doing you a favor giving you a chance to give them money.

These are pretty interesting stories, I got chills too.
I am pretty skeptical, though, can't help it. I can't understand why these things always seem to happen to solitary individuals. Why doesn't a spirit approach a group of people instead of just individuals? Why do they need to talk to just one person? How do they know where to find that carefully selected person? Why do some people have stories like these, and others not?
I suppose anything is possible, it just doesn't seem likely if you haven't experienced it yourself. Who knows, maybe I will someday.
