  My daughter is so confused

  i hope there is someone who had a similar situation and would advise to me.. my daughter veronica is 8. her mom (we are divorced) is a hard core jw.

  she puts lots of pressure on my daughter for her to lead a jw approved lifestyle.

  but kids are kids.

  That she was crying when she erased her mom-approved answer to the question makes me think she didn't want you to know he had been coerced into writing something she knew you wouldn't like.

  That's a lot of pressure to be under for a kid. At least with me, it was just me against my parents, I knew what they wanted to hear and I said it even if I didn't feel it, but nobody had to know. With you and your ex, she can't win.

  As she gets a little older it will be easier for her, I think. She'll have to go to meetings when she's with her mom, but she'll still have you and will be able to get away for a little vacation from the cult sometimes. She also won't have the pressure of disappointing 2 parents when the time comes for her to make a decision about if she wants anything to do with JWs.

  I think it's definitely a good thing she has you to keep her grounded. She will learn how to cope with all of it eventually.

  I'm sick to death of leaders of religions screaming "Freedom of Religion!" every time they're insane and criminal church rules are exposed for all to see. Yes we have freedom of religion over here, but freedom MUST be coupled with responsibility and accountability for your actions. Their Rights to Freedom of Religion should not include a blank cheque for people's souls. If religious leaders have the freedom to rule every aspect of their followers' lives and expose these people to inhumane treatment, both physically, mentally and emotionally, then how is this any different from the Catholic Inquisitions of the Middle Ages? If the government isn't going to do anything about this, then they may as well abolish this part of the Constitution, because it's not worth the paper it's printed on.

  Yeah, the religion has the freedom to do what it wants, and people have the freedom to join or not to join, but these are really the only freedoms. When you are trapped in one of these cults, there doesn't seem to be any freedom, but really you do have the freedom to leave if you wish, although this isn't really feasible for some people sometimes.

  Religion is a business. Who knows, maybe some day governments will start seeing it this way and will demand they meet certain ethical standards, or impose taxes or something. The way they see it now is, nobody makes you join. I think they should realize some cults are set up so people don't have a choice in some cases.

  A religion should not be allowed to get away with scamming people, if a person was clearly lied to and they gave money to a church because they were scammed they should be able to recover that money and the scammers should be sentanced according to the law irreguardless if they are a religion or not.

  In that case you would have to sue them all. They promise what cannot be proven. People give them money. I wouldn't expect anything to happen with this, although it would be really funny.

  .....................i received an sms from mrs ozzie last night informing me that ozzie is having an extremely risky operation on wednesday morning, 8am australian time.

  i can't give more details at this stage as to the procedure due to confidentiality but i can assure you it is going to be dangerous!

  mrs ozzie said that it had to be done despite the risk.. so if all of us here could take a moment tomorrow and send positive thoughts.

  Who Was Shocked By the Watchtower UN NGO Scandal?

  What mostly shocked me was I hadn't heard a word about it until I started to research the JWs on the internet in 2003. And it that info had been out a long time by then. They have such a great capacity for spinning everything their way and controlling information, it's scary and kind of sad. Sad that nobody within their ranks is able to question them about anything. And they say they are not a cult?

  Why 5 meetings a week?

  i was recently being ragged on my a jw friend and he was raggin on me for not goin to the meetings.

  he said i am foresaking the gathering of ourselves.

  i then said where in the bible does it say i must attend 5 meetings a week spread over 3 days?

  I do think it's to keep control of your thinking. If you unquestioningly believe everything, this is just the right amount to keep you from starting to question or to keep you from getting involved in other things that could take you away from their control.

  People miss meetings all the time. They put a guilt trip on you, but that's about all they can do about it, unless you actually want them to like you or something. They nag because they are otherwise powerless.

  are you able to tell the real from the phonies?

  i see some posters that automatically raise suspicions because of how they state things.

  others, after reading what they have to say over a period of time, show their true colors.

  And then there are the posters that pretend to be something here but are just the opposite in Watchtower world. I know of some that dog the Watchtower here but will go to meetings and pretend to be one of the loving "friends".

  Minimus, that's a little harsh. That's a real nice LABEL for people who would rather not be going through the fading process in the first place. I didn't ask to be born into a JW family. I'm not going to meetings, well sometimes going to meetings, because I rolled out of bed and decided to see how many people I can fool into thinking I'm a good witness.

  I'm surprised you said this. I guess the real you is coming out a little bit more? Maybe you were only pretending to be nice before. You phoney!

  She keeps making eyes at me but I'm not interested. :S

  at work there is this girl there who keeps making eyes at me, but i'm not interested.

  on top of that, she keeps trying to strike up conversations and she goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on... its amazing!

  never a pause between sentences and barely a any space between words... just a very very long series of words coming out of her mouth non-stop.

  Here's what always works on me...

  I don't know if you are married or have a girlfriend or whatever, but even if you don't, start loading everything you say with "my girlfriend" this, "my girlfriend" that and never stop.

  example: Wow! My girlfriend would love your shoes, where did you buy them? Yawn, I'm so tired, my girlfriend woke me up way too early today.

  She sounds like she's used to pushing her men around, so it's hard to say what will work with a girl like that.
