Attending WT meetings/functions

i've been inactive for over 4 years now but i'm still attached though - loosely.. i will occassionally attend a meeting or portion of an assembly or convention.. i get a mixed reception at these gatherings.

generally my experience has.

been that the larger the group, the more inclined i am to run into some who.

Hillary, the person benefitted from having personal interest shown in her. That could come from any good group. Her life is much better now, and if the group had been other than the WTS would be still better. If for example she has a child that a JW pedophile has molested, or if she ever has a grandchild to whom it happens due to the WTS policy of coverup, then you can see the other side on this too. So our objective in helping others exit the WTS is one of love, whether some have expressd it in what you call less than noble terms or not. The sword of truth with the shield of LOVE.

If it turned out that JW's were right ...

yes imagine if after all the struggle and effort to break fee of jehovahs witnesses it turnred out that they were right all along.. the governing body were getting messages from god and were being used by him , proof came out that evolution was false.they found noahs ark and ancient manuscrips were found that proved the bible true.. also lasurus was still alive and well living in siberia.. the next thing we know religon has been banned.. there are signs in the sky and strange phenomenon.. we look up and see the moon turned to blood and the sign of the son of man appears in the heavens.. next to him is a flying pig.. we realise pigs don't fly .. we wake up sweating.. it was all a dream.. releaved its all over we get up for a new day.. we open the curtains, allwe can see is fire and brimstone.. we hear screams of tourture.. satan laughs.

although i don't agree with your general motives you have accomplished some good.

it appears the watchtower has altered its official policy judging from the reports on the recent elder seminar.. allowing serial cases to be counted as two or more witnesses is similar to the exception courts make in child abuse cases.

ordinariily a jury is not to consider evidence from one case as bearing on another case but this is allowed in the case of child abuse.. i never expected them to fold this easily.

An org with a policy equipping molestors to better rape our kids and grandkids is dangerous. You say they will adjust to it. I find that incredible. It will continuously cause problems, never go away so long as a child is raped to satisfy the org's policy.

one more topic.. my wife just called up to tell me that she was over my parents before a doctor's visit, chatting with my mother, when my crazed jw father threw my small 14 year old brother down the stairs and punched him for not wanting to study.. i've been beat, thrown down stairs, had potted plants thrown at me, chased around the house, and such, for not wanting to do the family study.. this is what the "truth" does to people, all you loyal jw's....take note...... (i'm so angry i'm shaking).

No, don't warn him. Just send a note to Family Services or the police. If you try verbally warning him he may beat the living day lights out of you.

Propolog. There are some 90,000 congregations. If only 1 congregation per 100 (i.e. 1%) has a child molestor being hidden in it then that is 900. If each of the 900 molests only an average of 1 different child per year for 10 years that is 9000 children who get raped.

Most of us who have followed this thing wold say 1% is low. That there are coverups in at least 30% of the congregations in the United States would not be inconceivable. Now this is speaking about the abuse heaped on children, though abuse also gets heaped on adults.

Bill is not grinding any personal axe. There was a molestor in his hall and he wasn't going to let the monster keep it up. So just where do you think you get off. I agree with the other poster (Farkel?) who pointed to the Chitty and Greenlees skeletons.

I can also tell you right now there are child molestation cases leaping off the headlines in Norway (including Skien where Kent Steinhaug is) and blood issue cases in the Netherlands. The issue is international and not going away........ sad to say.

How we Know that Evolution is a Fact

there has been a number of threads related to evolution in the last month or so.

some posters, like penn, subscribes to a form of creationism, which i for this purpose will define as denial of large scale evolution (sometimes called macro-evolution).. even saner people sometimes alleges that scientists are unnecessarily 'dogmatic' about evolution, and that this is 'just a theory.

Sunscape, I am not a "fundamentalist" but a person open to reasoning. You, not myself or Marvin, are flourishing the religious tag in this case as if to offer a wedge and split what has otherwise been a joyful discourse.

Mox though was correct in saying Marvin and myself did do some anticipatory reasoning or a little wandering over onto tangential topics. There was no intention to divert from the enjoyment of the primary topic, but simply to present side discussion such as normally would follow in such a discussion.

Again, congratulations to Jan for a very fine wine of a presentation. Looking forward to future servings of the mind from you Jan, Anewperson

Marvin Shilmer who wrote earlier in this thread alludes in passing to a good point that atheists sometimes throw at believers in the heavenly One; namely they say "well, if God exists then WHO made Him? And if So-and-So made that WHO then who made that GOD?" ad finitum," thinking this makes the idea that God exists look stupid. In fact there are countless infinities which exist.

For example the Greeks noted if you cut a stick in half you get a half of the stick and cutting that in half will give you another half and so forth.... always with another half of the stick which can still be cut in half if you have a small enough cutting tool. And in like manner if you are four feet from a door and cover half the distance you have two feet left, then you cover another half the distance and there's only 1 foot left, then you cover half that distance towards the door and there is still half of that distance left... and so forth eternally, and this even though in our realm of the universe above the quantum level we in fact do get to the door and may even go beyond it.

Or you line up a mirror such that you see yourself in it and inside that mirror's image another image of yourself, and inside that mirror's image another image of yourself etc etc forever..... So there you are existing as a set of images which is infinite even though you are in fact but one person.

Point? That can be that which is Eternal (God: fatherly source of all existence which is both somethingness and nothingness) and in fact has no prior source to it itself, or Him Himself.
