Reason for going to Bethel

for those of you who are x bethelites, why did you choose to go to bethel?.

was it because of you love for jehovah, or to get away from your home town and live in new york, or some other reason?

Well we never made it to New York cause we were in the Canada bethel, and didn't have time or enough vacation days or money to visit the New York side of the borg.

Why did we apply to the Canada Bethel--cause we were told to, and it seemed that since we applied and were accepted in six weeks, that Jehovah must have been directing us to go.

We were having trouble as regular pioneers finding part time work that paid well, and were having financial trouble, and so sought out the advice of our CO who said " Don't quit--apply to Bethel, wait on Jehovah and he will provide!" Six weeks later comes a call from the young single brother who did these calls, and we, being completely igorent of the way Bethel was since we had never even seen one before, asked him what to bring. He said just the clothes you need, get rid of everything else ( Thanks a lot Kam!) so we stupidly did.

Little did we realize that everyone brings all kinds of furniture, china, microwaves etc,.. so we had to buy all that stuff again, and used some of Bethels stuff too.

Also we didn't know that my husbands trade was the primary reason we were called in such a hurry not our glowing spiritual reference or history. They were needing desperately the trade he was in and I think would take anyone in this trade who was not inactive.

I need some help...

i really hesitate to post this, because it's very weak for me to ask.

i am asking because i am emotionally distraught.

i am losing another brother.

My heart goes out to you! I too have lost two brothers, the first one when I was 11 to a brain tumor ( he was 2 1/2 yrs old) and one when I was 24 to schizophrenia, he is the living dead, poor guy.

Although you never are the same, and the sadness is so raw, ( I still get choked up to this day) the intensity and frequency of the sadness decreases. You learn to cope again, you learn to replace the sadness with memories of good times together, before this terrible tragedy happened.

My little baby brother was a sturdy stocky little celtic redhead. He was cheerful, happy, and a terrible tease. He would always steal his older (but lighter weight) brothers security blanket and run giggling away as his brother screeeched in angry protest.

My other brother was a bit timid, but loving, and very intelligent, and a true artist. Before the mental illness took full effect, he was a sweet gentle boy with a vivid imagination.

When you are ready to, maybe you could tell me a bit about your brothers, and yourself, PM me anytime, and please dont hesitate to ask for help when you need to.

I was in grade five when our teacher read "A Wrinkle in Time" to us, and I remember being very alarmed at first, as my "bible trained conscience" warned me that this was crossing the evil line, and I asked to be excused. My teacher refused, explaining that this was a lovely book, and I guiltily started to enjoy the book, and looked forward to it very much.

My brother was dying of a brain tumor at this time, and I cried and cried at the passage you just quoted, as I wanted so badly to bring my brorher back, and was unable to help him. I felt like i had let him down, and it was somehow my fault.

I loved the Narnia books, and read them guiltily, noticing the parallels even back then at that tender age.

I have just recently bought the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and when I get time will read them. I remember visiting an elders wife who encouraged me to read them, and being shocked, and telling her my conscience wouldn't allow it. I also judged her for reading "bodice rippers" romances, but then with much guilt secretly read hers at her house.

The TRUTH for dummies. Chapter 1

being only newly freed from the wts, there are many people who were my friends that i would like to be able to explain the truth about many of the points raised on this board.

so i have decided to compile a publication that i can mail to them with short succinct, hardhitting reasoning on areas where the wts is misleading them and also areas where they are saying one thing but practising another.

i would like to be able to limit the explanations to one topic per page with the hope that if there is not too much too read they may just bother to read it.

For me, doctrinal issues would have meant squat to me,

I started to feel disturbed after reading about cults and mind control, and Orwells 1984 (all non apostate sources) and it bothered me that the Society would use these teqniques I started to realize that Jehovah would NOT use this way to spread the "truth". Truth should stand up on its own, not by mind control.

So while some may be disturbed by doctrinal issues, false prophecies, usually there has to be some other doubt first, such as abuse, mistreatment, injustice or some other trigger to snap the mind out of the mind control thinking, and open it to factual information about the WTBTS. Otherwise they are blinded by the extreme thought training.

I have not suffered mistreatment or abuse by the JWs and for the most part it was a "positive" experience, so it wasn't til I started to open my mind to comparisons to other cults that the bells started ringing, but it took years for it to come full circle, I even went to Bethel with doubts, which were confirmed for me by the fact that you canNOT leave in a honorable way if you decide after you fulfill your year obligation, that Bethel is not for you. You WILL have a "black" (their word) letter sent to your congregation unless you have a REALLY good reason for leaving.

I would use non threatening sources, like cult info sites. talking to ex members of other cults about their experiences, and letting the person you are trying to help DRAW THEIR OWN CONCLUSIONS. Ask questions that are kind and loving, mirroring the JWs own methods of speaking, don't be negative at all and NEVER slag the borg until they are there too.

Fudging on "Field Service Report"

when i was a jdub i used to write down whatever hours i wanted to write down.

when i was pioneering for 7 years i would add a few hours to my time each month so that i wouldn?t fall too far behind.

even when i wasn?t pioneering though i would inflate my hours a bit sometimes so i wouldn?t have the elders hounding me about my time and also so i could hold a ?position?.

I was too deeply programmed in mind control to ever outright lie about my time when I was pioneering, "Jehovah knows".

But, as a pioneer in a rural area where the town territory was severely overworked, it was considered ok to make a call in town, home or not, then drive for four hours to a really rural terrritory, eat lunch, then call on a crazy old hermit way in the bush, then drive back the four hours and make another call in town, and count 12 hours. Wheee! What a glorious waste of time!!!

I also had many "return visits" where the people were living about an hour from town, were old and lonely, always made tea and cookies for me, took the mags, but had no real interest in JW religion, but took the mags to get regular visits. I liked the old people, felt that I was doing something valuable in listening to their stories, and checking up on them regularly, shoveling the porch or driveway sometimes, and it was WAY nicer than going door to door at -20 celcius or worse, bugging people and letting the heat out. We would often stay for an hour or more, and sometimes had four or more people waiting in the van, til we came back, all counting time!!

adding a new puppy

last night we made a leap and added a puppy to our home.

we have a seven month old terrier-chihuahua mix already.

we added a bigger dog into the mix.

the only thing I would be really careful about is that the big, new pup doesn't play too roughly with the little one, cause I have seen where a big dog in just playing with chihuahua type dogs, have broken limbs, so don't leave them alone together, and if the pup gets too rough, seperate them, and the pup will learn that he is not allowed to play rough.

The growling and such from the older smaller dog is fine, he is just teaching the pup whos boss, and is very unlikely to hurt the big pup, and is a sign that the smaller dog is insecure about this big galoot.

They will get used to each other, and soon will likely be friends.

well as you would have guessed from my name, i am a proud witness and i feel obliged to preach to you about the promises that our wonderful creator, jehovah god, has promised each and every one of us, of any race or background.

i know that you already know what he has told us through his word, but i am curious to wonder why you have chosen to jump off the narrow road which leads to everlasting life.

is it because you have had a bad experience in god's organization?

Well, even though you are a yanker of legs, I don't give a whooping funt, it was kinda fun! It helps me reaffirm my own decisions, and clarify my mind on many points, so that when someone I care about asks me, I will be able to be a lot more articulate.

By the way, if you were a "loyal JW" you would not post your real picture on the avatar, and you certainly would not post the half naked and lookin like a good time is goin on, avatar. That was my tip that you were a yanker. You would have used a "modest" non sexy picture of virtue.

I found a letter to the GB

you better make sure you bury them really deep cause my dog will find it and bring it home.

i have a 10mth old bloodhound and you would not believe the dead stuff she has brought me.

in the past 3wks i have had skin's , skulls , leg bone's and i have no idea what yesterdays was.

I have an American Bulldog and she also has the lovely habit of digging up long dead things and bringing them up to the light of day, with all the moose bones and deer bones here it looks like a crypt.

She also helps add to the dead population by killing the odd stray cat or chicken and burying til it is ripe and rolling on it. The smell is just nasty.
