i am, right now, watching vh-1's history of the jacksons and in particular, the charges filed against him.. they just showed how mrs. jackson became a devout jw, showed the kh, and a few wt mags.

then, without expecting it, there was bill bowen!

talking about the epidemic of abuse in this church.

Witness group unity is a teaching but not a reality. Surprisingly most Witness people I know buy into it unquestioning.

Gary--exactly...The WT repeats these teachings over and over again and conditions and person into repeating these things over and over again, whether they themselves truly believe it or not.

Jehovah's people have Love among themselves

Jehovah's people are the only ones serving the true God Jehovah and everyone else is the world is wicked and evil and worthy of death (including innocent children) and destruction by their most loving God Jehovah.

I was Molested by my CO grandfather

i was molested by my grandfather from the age of 3 to 7. he was also molesting his daughter (my aunt) and maybe others.

it was covered over and my entire family was actually shunned when we went to the elders when i was 18. i did not tell anyone about it until then because my grandfather had me believing our relationship was special and it was our little secret.. when confronted, he of course denied it.

my mother even spoke up of a time when he had tried to molest her when she was 8 months pregnant with one of my brothers.

(((((Ashton))))) Wow, sadly to say there are a lot of stories like yours out there. Not that this type of thing is exclusive to the JW Org, but the coverup of this sort of thing by the JW Organization has perpetuated this behaviour in the congregations over the years--unbelievable, especially when we were always talking about how Jehovah keeps his organization "clean." Despite my anger and shock at the WT org coverups I am truly sorry for the personal pain you have suffered over these years. There is a lot of help on this website and like someone mentioned above...the silentlambs program....lots of support there too. the best to you...

Diligent and careful (translation: using only WTS publications) research is often needed in order to find Scriptural counsel that addresses our specific needs. We have many Bible-based publications (WTS publications only) to help us in our search.

After reading this a second time around I see that the meaning of personal study is different than examining the publications for research purposes or to find the truth of the matter. What it is saying here is if we have a problem and we need some councel on that problem go to the WT publications, look up said problem, find the answer and then do what it says--that is research according to the WT. Just listen and obey and whatever you do--DON'T ASK QUESTIONS!

What if your diligent research of the WT proves to you that the WT is wrong and filled with inconsistencies and an ever changing doctrines? What if you really open your mind and see it for what it is? The last pioneer sister who came to my door rambled on at me about the importance of personal study (It was obvious that she thought this was my problem and the reason I had drifted away from the congo).. I didn't say anything at the time, but that was one of my problems--too much personal study proved the WT wrong! Maybe the WT should warn people about staying balanced with their personal study--too much of it could be dangerous! Maybe an article entitled. Personal study--is there a balance?--if so how can we achieve it?

sadly the media does tend to twist things up by the way they edit the conversations. I actually knew somebody who was on 60 minutes at one time. They cut up his conversation and pieced it together in a way that did not represent the truth of the matter. So possibly this was done with Bill Bowen's story and he did say something before or after some of his statements to clarify them.

Seeing JWs in a positive light.

not a new light, just a positive light.. sometimes on here i worry that all jws are painted with a bad brush when i know that not to be the case.

today i was looking after a jw patient on the ward and she was the most wonderful old girl you could meet, she really made me smile, and she was bright as a button.

later her family came in, who i didn't recognise and they were just as pleasent.

Yes, I know some who are just naturally warm hearted. The most loving ones seem to be the most depressed at times. I think they have a hard time fitting their large-heartedness into the whole WT agenda. When Jesus gave the command to love your neighbor as yourself and the WT gives the command to avoid your neighbor and consider his as bad association for you--it is hard to reconsile these things in the mind of a person who is truly trying to follow Christian principles. The only JW friend who still associates with me is very big- hearted, but dangerously depressed and on a lot of meds. If you are truly obiedient to the WT Org you cannot really love. Sorry, that's not very positive, but has been my experience.

strange but I keep hearing more and more about this lizard people thing. there are a couple of people in our town who are totally convinced of it--one of them even lent us a movie/documentary about it. It is a strange and interesting story. I don't believe it for an instant, but am intrigued by the people who do, but then again I have believed some pretty weird things in my day (the seven headed ten horned wild beast that came up out of the sea for instance)..

How many "real friends" did you have in your congregation?

most congregations have about 80 to 120 people.

out of that, how many could you consider being a "real friends"?

personally, not one of them was a "real friend".

On my way out of the Org I had a discussion with one of the elders about loving my non-believing family ( I was defending the point that I did love my unbelieving family) He said "well, I love my worldly family too, but I consider my REAL family and friends to be those in Jehovah's Organization." I had to think about that. After being in my previous congo for several years I had not been to 2 witness families homes for dinner one of them one time and the other one 2 times. So I had not even eaten a meal with the vast majority of those in the congo. I had never been to their homes. We had not really spent much time together ( a few shopping trips with a coupole of sisters looking for meeting clothes). I didn't have much personal involvement with any of the people. In the congo before this congo I had more personal involvement, but not anything on a very deep level. I ended up hanging out with people who I didn't really have anything in common with except for the fact that they wanted to associate with someone. A lot of the stronger JWs (Pioneers and such) didn't have time to associate with anyone they were so busy--unless it was association in field service and I don't think you really get to know the person in that setting, because everyone is putting on to be something that they are not. I was personally surprised to see a different side of some JWs when they were not in field service or at the meetings. In the Org it was hard to figure out who was real and who was not, because many were putting on an act of some sort in regard to their JW persona.

Thinking back I thought I had about 3 real friends in the Org, but only one still communicates me (so the other 2 weren't real friends afterall--conditional friendships). The one who still speaks to me knows that I don't believe anymore, but still wants to be my friend --maybe she wants to encourage me, I don't know, but at least she cares enough to do that. I also think she is a truly loving person who is struggling with her faith and doesn't totally follow the rules on things.

On the other hand, I came into the Org as an adult and had a handful of close non-JW friends who remained friends with me all through those crazy JW years and are still supportive friends today. Now, those are true friends in my book.

since jehovah loves those he disciplines, short of stoning one, this is god's way of saying, i love you"......stupid, huh?

And you don't have to be Dfd to be shunned by the JWs--all you have to do is to tell a lot of them you are not attending the 5 meetings a week and distributing WT literature from door to door and they look at you as if you have just sprouted horns. Does this shunning make me feel loved by God and the congregation? No, it makes me feel hurt and angry. Does it give me any desire whatsoever to go back to the KH and be in association with these people again--NEVER! Do I think God is doing this because he loves me? BULLSHIT. (sorry I have had a bad week of shunning)

High rates of depression in Org.

i noticed after being a jw for a while that many members of my congregation were having to take antedepressants.

(i counted at least 30 out of 100).

after a few years i too began to have bouts of depression and problems with anxiety.

because some of these people struggled with mental health issues before they became witnesses and some came from families whose members had a history of mood and/or anxiety disorders.

very true. I came into the Org in the midst of major post partum depression. I had also come from a family background that left much to be desired. So sad that these types are preyed upon by groups such as the WT org. Wouldn't it be wonderful if organizations like this actually helped people with their problems offering support and counceling and real knowledge that could help a person grow strongerand more mentally balanced? Instead the WT compounds these problems and feeds depression, anxiety and the such with their teachings and religious routines. Most of the people I know who are still in there are getting worse by the year and they are taking more meds to control their sanity/insanity. When I have any encounters with these people I don't feel well either. I am much healthier and happier when I am away from anything or anybody that has to do with the WT borganization.
