did you know that page 99 of "pay attention...." (the elders' manual) states that a person who has not associated for a while is basically exempt from discipline?

essentially if you attend a judicial hearing or respond to the elders you are admitting accountability to the "christian congregation.

" therefore, if you walk away from the congregation and simply ignore the elders for long enough and exert no influence on the members, they don't have to pursue you, even if they hear of serious sin.

So far doing the fade has been OK for me, though I live in a small town where everybody knows your business even before you know it. If you continue to be just be normal and polite to the average JW most of them will be cordial.. If I DA myself the average JW can take that as a personal insult of my lack of love for them and will then consider it my fault. If the elders DA me for anything then it is their fault that I am DAd and then I can tell people who know me well that it was the elders that DAd me and it might get them to thinking.

Yes, and i was baptized before they changed the questions. I was not baptized into the Org as JWs ar today. So if the vows have changed then I am no longer accountable or that is what I will tell them if it gets that far...

While it has been suggested that we bring a light lunch to eat at noon, it is not appropriate to set up tables in the parking lot to serve a large meal. This would give the impression of the tailgate parties that are common at sporting events.

I laughed when I read this one, Seriously now folks, do they really think that people are going to get the impression that a bunch of guys in suits and modestly dressed women and children eating their lunch in a parking lot is going to "give the impression of a tail gate party." That is too funny.

During the last 4 day assembly that I did not attend it was annouced that there would be no food allowed in the assembly hall beside what was being served at the assembly hall concession stand. Seriously, they told us the only food that would be served during those 4 days would be 2 choices: chili beans or hot dogs. I can't eat hot dogs because of some of the chemicals in them and eating chili for 4 days is not a good choice either. No meals for vegetarians either. I was already on my way out and thinking of not going, but the hot dog and chili bean thing was an irritation to me when I heard it. It was also strongly advised not to leave the assembly hall during the convention. So imagine 4 days in an enclosed building with everybody eating hot dogs and chili...

I'm afraid that statement is true. Claire and I were discussing this only yesterday, about how the elderly would feel if they suddenly realised they'd been duped all these years. We agreed that many would sink into the deepest depths of depression. It wasn't easy for Claire and I at first to suddenly realise our own mortality; that we DEFINITELY WOULD NOT be entering a paradise earth or be resurrected from the dead. How do you think those poor, sincere old folks would feel!
The Watchtower is guilty of sheer and utter cruelty in building up people's hopes and playing with their kind and considerate feelings. It has lied and continues to promulgate the lie and is intent on hurting yet more people just because it hasn't the guts to apologise for being wrong!

Yes, I have often thought about the older ones who have dedicated their lives and put all there hopes and dreams into that elusive future paradise. Just recently I received an email from a very nice JW woman I was friends with for many years and she told me that her mom is still pioneering in her 80s despite being tired and in poor health. They are nice people who have sacrificed many things to the Org, but you are right it would kill them to know the truth about the lie. One day they will know that I no longer believe and they will be sad about that too. I can only feel pity for them now.

That is an interesting question--one I have never even thought of after all my years in the Org. Yeh, what? Not a body that's for sure. Imperfect personality and human traits? No, can't be that one. Great knowledge? No, certainly there would be no need of an imperfect human's knowledge in perfect heaven where everyone knows everything already. So why would their purpose be up there anyway? Yes, I know they were supposed to be the class ruling from heaven, but what's the sense of that? God would have to totally strip off their personalities, human traits and everything else that made them who they are before they would even qualify for such a position. So, in that sense there would be nothing left of them. Anyway, just some midnight ramblings here. The longer I am away from the Org the more absurd the teachings all seem to me now. The scary thing is to me now-- how could I have been so brainwashed?

after researching pubilcations and the watchtower websites i belife the faithful slave does not exist in a tangible form and is a ghostwriter for the entire org.

everything is subcontracted from mostly the great crowd now billed as corespondants.

Interested In Learning More About Jehovah Witnesses

my name is latasha and i attend paine college in augusta, georiga.

for my religion of the world class we were assigned a research paper comparing our religion to another.

also, we must present to the class a little information about our experience with the religion we choosen.

When we were JWs we thought that everything we did was for an honorable purpose (such as not saluting the flag, etc).

We were taught that saluting the flag was a form of idolatry or the worshipping of a goverment that was putting themselves above God. We also believed that all governments and peoples apart from Jehovah's witnesses would be destroyed by God at Armegeddon time because they were all wicked and under Satan's influence. After many years of this sort of brainwashing many of us woke up and discovered that it wasn't the truth at all and that we had all been working for a giant real estate investment and book publishing company.

This isn't the end of it though because it is hard for us to just leave the WT Org. Many here are now disfellowshipped or shunned because they no longer follow the JW rules and regulations. Thousands have been torn from their families because of this. Faithful Jehovah's witness parents are no longer allowed to speak with their children who have left the Org and vice-versa. This site is like a support group to many who have been damaged by the WT Org in one way or another. That's it in a nutshell.

question about the memorial

as a non-jw my perception is that they invite everyone they know to the memorial and then a count is taken that night, and the number reported as "the number of jws worldwide" -when some poor clucks (like my unsuspecting self) aren't jws at all but are counted anyway because we are there.

if this is the case, doesn't that mean their count is a lie, and don't any of them get that?

am i wrong in perceiving this to be the case?.

Yes, any who attend are viewed as ones who are interested. This is one spark of hope that is given to the JWs every year to give the appearance of the future growth to come-- WHY look at how many more attended the memorial--they are all potential victims (AKA bible studies).

So it goes that every faithful witness is encouraged to drag along anyone they can for the big night of passing the bread and wine around. I think that the majority of non-JWs who attend are not interested at all, but do so because they are relatives of JWs and figure it is their one big event of the year so what the heck (they may also feel somewhat sorry for the JW relative as they seem so pathetic over this memorial thing). Others are forced to go in one way or another--they are put into a position where they just can't say NO when a rabid witness just won't take any clue that you don't want to attend and offer you everything if you go--will save you a seat--pick you up at 7:00--hold your hand--take you out for icecream afterwards--anything to get you to attend. We were all given complete instructions on how to get others to attend --the Org created this mania every year around memorial time...

what caused you to come and read the posts of so many of your former brothers and sisters who have either been disfellowshipped or have chosen to walk away from the society and the 'truth'?

I have only discovered this site a little over a month ago. I was pretty broken when I dragged in here, beaten up and dragged down by the Org, but was still under the illusion that all who opposed the WT Org were foaming at the mouth evangelical monster apostates. Much to my relief I found that there are many thousands of others who have had similiar experiences and somemuch worst experiences than mine, or the many others who have observed things doctrinal and otherwise that they could no longer get their heads around. Yes, I think the support offered at this site was a lifesaver for me and many others here. There is much experience offered here by many of the WT survivors--many of their stories have kept me from making some early on mistakes with the way I handled my separation from the Org. But I am still learning too. I am glad you found this support group. Much welcome...
