The Watchtower: Sincere Old Men or Deliberate Deceivers?

when a witness encounters injustices engendered by the watchtower and considers them.

with clarity of mind, he is likely to suppose that , at worst, the old men who run things.

I agree Mark--this seems to be the crux of it and this carries on throughout the "faithful" members of this Org, as they are taught that having faith in God means being faithful to his "earthy Organization." (worshipping the WT) I also believe as many quoted above that these old men are insane with power--or who are just plain old crazy and delusional.

No wonder the dubs spend so much time trying to interpret the nuances of words and the meanings of what the pictures in the WT indicate. The actual content is stupefying and is empty of all substance.

exactly...We always thought those ones who could dredge up some details from the empty substance of the meaningless drivel and give those lengthy answers at the WT study were so wise...Anything to break the boredom. I have commented before on my last comment ever given at the KH...Long story, but I brilliantly came up with a comment one Thurs night about remembering to clean the toilet handle ( a much overlooked part of cleaning the bathroom, but a place where many germs reside) when we were cleaning the bathrooms ( a talk about hall cleaning). The audience nodded in agreement---the elder complemented me on my awesome answer (everyone else was in a coma and very few were raising their hands). It was the end of my WT daze.

It is hard to go on through the day without thinking about the Asian disaster--it is so monumental.

I can't imagine sitting in the KH on Sunday morning and be able to focus on this WT study without this tragedy coloring my thoughts. Another poster made the comment that it may cause some caring JWs to turn away from the WT who seems to care so little and their main focus continually being--do more, do more, do more...

Let us never urge fellow Christians who are pioneers, missionaries, traveling overseers, or members of the Bethel family to discontinue their full-time service simply to return to a so-called normal life.

I find this to be one of those "weird" WT statements. What are they really saying here? How does this make the average JW feel who is not participating in any of these activities above? Are some of the brothers who are living a "normal" life guilty of swaying those who are not? I remember these sort of WT statements as being open ended--meaning different things to different people and creating uncomfortable paranoid guilt type of feelings.

Tsunami could have a negative backlash on sincere JWs

the horrific scenes from se asia we have seen on tv over the past week will have an effect one way or another on many jws.

yes, the hardliners will see this as a part of the prelude to armageddon; "famine and earthquakes in various places".

(mat 24) this sort mentally dismisses the unequalled loss of human life, reasoning that most of these would have died at armageddon anyway.

I read a post someone had put up here about the 9/11 disaster a while back. That is what really opened their eyes to the JW teachings. The scene of the death and destruction caused by those NY buildings going down and those few thousands losing their lives was nothing compared to what their religion taught about what would happen in the "near" future. Were we really praying for the death of billions of people and the destruction of the world for the sake of righteousness? I have had to ask myself this question over and over again. I remember it was all rather fuzzy in my mind and I just figured God would take care of it and I wouldn't have to be concerned with the judging--he would know what was best, but the reality of what the WT religion teaches is not kindly towards those who do not spend their time working for the WT Org.

Only One Religion's WebSite Ignores the Desaster in South Asia

to whatever religion's website you surf, all have a comment on the tsunami in south asia: be it catholic, protestant, adventist, mormon, new apostolic or whatever.

they try to give comfort and encourage people to donate for the suffering people there.

but if you go to http://www.watchtower.org or http://www.jw-media.org there is no mention of it (at least by now).

I think the reason that so many of us are upset here is because we believe the WT Organization will be soliciting funds from their well meaning members who would truly like to do something for the victims of this disaster. But it appears that the WT Org is directing its members to donate to the WT only and they will dispense the money however they think is necessary.

When I was a JW we were not encouraged at all to give to any other charities. All other charitable organizations were "part of the world" and therefore not worthy of our support. The WT organization does not have the manpower to do much of anything in these countries to help out and the donations of well meaning JWs may never reach the people in these devastated lands where few JWs reside. When we hear the WT Org speak of helping out it ususally involves repairing Kingdom halls (their properties). The best thing that could be done with this money is to donate it directly to an international organization such as the Red Cross who are are there right now helping out with what counts the most saving the lives of thousands of people who are starving to death and in need of medical attention.

This is the problem as I see it,

He said the brothers asked the minister when he was leaving "what did you bring the workers? and the minister replied water, and the brothers said we're bringing the good news of the kingdom", and the whole congregation just laughed. It really disgusted me because this was all told in a very condescending manner, and I just thought people in this disaster need water too and I'm sure they're thankful someone is bringing it.

momof4...I heard the same story with a bit of a twist on it about the water. It was about one church group who was there and the only thing they knew how to do was hand out water. But of course the brothers stepped in bibles in hand and were a great comfort to all! In the story I heard it was only the brothers that were allowed in the area after a while--all the other churches were not allowed to come in because they were getting in the way. But of course the brothers saved the day with their preaching! (somehow.) The whole story seemed rather surreal at the time, but i was still a Borg drone then and patting myself on the back because I belonged to the bestest most loving and godley organization in the world...forgive my insanity please..

WTS Cashes In On Tsunami

in an informal announcement at service meetings this week (corroborated by the question box in the january 2005 our kingdom ministry, pg 7) jws interested in contributing to the asian tsunami disaster should contribute directly to the "worldwide work" (the general fund).. the entire article referenced above: .

what is the best way to make contributions for the benefit of needy brothers in other lands?.

at times, we hear about brothers in another land who have come into material need because of persecution, disaster, or other difficult circumstances.

Thanks for the link Neo. Is this brochure new? I didn't see it before I left the Org over a year ago. Is this a brochure that has been annouced publically for all JWs to see or do they keep this one in the back room for those with special needs who want to donate large amounts of cash?

Yep,

I think this indicates where their heads are at. On the second link you mentioned is the "top headlines" which are all stories about witnesses being persecuted or whatever--not one mention of the Asian disaster. Maybe the WT doesn't pay much attention to its website, though I can hardley make that excuse for them. What happened to the good Samaritian and to love your neighbor as yourself? Obviously this is not a teaching this Organization puts into practice much. I am growing increasingly disgusted with this Org.
