Just thought I'd introduce myself, finally!
by TrailBlazer04 ini was never "in" the wts, but my husband's x-wife and children are jw.
he never was...it's a long story, but between the "religion" and other stuff, she's managed to inflict so much damage and pain on him that at one point he was suicidal...so much for "christian love", ya know?.
looking forward to talking more, if that's ok with everybody!.

Work Experience Brings Back Strange Memories ...

but what happened today is over the top .... i am a school teacher.
i know of this situation involving two step-brothers (9 and 10 years old) who live together.

ahhhh the wonderful memories as a kid gets hauled kicking and screaming to the back of the hall, into the bathroom. Just a slight pause as the kids pants are dropped, then WHAM WHAM WHAM WHAM, followed by more screams but the 'in deep pain' type now. Then, 10 minutes goes by, the parent comes out with the kid all red-faced and tear streaks running down the face.....jeece, the good ol' days only they still happen....
After our first son was born and during the few meetings we were attending up till a few months ago, it was a real challenge but I didn't sweat it. I wasn't into sitting there like a bump on a log anyway, so to get outside in the fresh air with our very active boy was really a great thing.
I haven't spanked our boy yet (he's 3) and he can be all of the things typical kids of this age can be. He is extremely active and curious and into everything - typical gd 'bad' behaviour many parents would call it. I call it one of the most beautiful times of life for him and for me in being there to experience it. When his behaviour does become inappropriate or we cannot have the patience to deal with it - he gets a time out and it works very well for us. I hope I never have to hit him to get a point across but am open to the possibility it may have its place - just not yet and hopefully never.
boa was spanked big time as a child and look at 'im now, he's so well behaved he's a 'postate! sheesh

A new day, eh?

this morning i decided to use the downstairs shower because the upstair's shower has about as much pressure as a slow trickle.
i drag all my stuff down the stairs, turn the water on, i'm thinking "this is better".

theocrat, theocrat, theocrat like others I just don't know where to start. Of course I COMPLETELY understand and can truthfully EMPATHIZE with you and your situation. Here you come into the den of the so called god-damned 'apostates' trying to help. Surely you must realize that most of us know the so-called 'reasoning' book as well or possible quite a bit better than you, but perhaps not.
I feel a bit sorry for you since I would've done exactly as you a few years ago in trying to defend the 'truth' except I most certainly wouldn't have done so with 'apostates'! Only would I have made such an effort with a householder who seemed to be interested but perhaps misinformed about jwism.
Thus, my next thought to respond to your valiant and no-doubt good intentioned points to 'us' is, quite simply, that no matter how many years of my life (born into jw family, baptized at 15, aux pio, reg pio, bethelite, ms etc.) I was a jw, I never could understand the absolute prohibition (which you're breaking by being at this site) against any 'opposers' material. I still cannot equate it to the way Jesus would've stood up with real Truth against anything others could say. Thus I say to you - READ, STUDY, and LEARN about your 'religion', if indeed you are a jw from a source OTHER than the watchtower society. I started with an excellent book by Raymond Franz - Crisis of Conscience. Get ready to have your world rocked! There are many more that clearly and scholarly show the Society's chronology is a lie, and that their 'proofs' we are in the 'last days' are based upon deception like any other apocalyptic group that forms in every century virtually right back to when the 'prophecies' first were uttered. Of course if you truly are a 'good' jw, you will simply ignore anything besides what the society writes - if this is not true with you - PROVE IT! Read the above book first and then come back with your viewpoints! Don't be afraid, there just WORDS! Besides I would LOVE an answer to all the information, claims, answers in Crisis of Conscience to help me back into the fold if I've been deceived. (yet again)
If you keep quoting (spouting) information from the reasoning or other books, you must realize you are extremely limited in your viewpoint and thus your credibility of presenting any kind of 'truth' is negligible imo.

My bizarre last few days...

i had 3 essays to finish (one left and i'm slacking horridly on it) and my final exam last saturday (i think i did reallly well!

Why?
by Undecided inalmost all my memories are connected to the jws in some way.
if i go down an old road i haven't driven on in many years almost all the memories are about some bible study there, some store that i ate dinner in when in service, some place where we met for meetings, a home that some jw lived in back when i was a kid.
i get sort of melancholy remembering my parents and cousins who are all dead now.

Undecided, I too am one who has not been maltreated by elders or other individuals in the congregation and have many fine memories while in da troof. My 'stumbling' out of the org is more for doctrinal/intellectual reasons rather than sure 'feelings' and bad experiences showing it fallacy.
From this other angle, I feel I HAVE been lied to, deceived, and manipulated by an organization with those responsible, primarily being a few men at the top and their support staff. This is not something easily forgiven and my trust of anything the wts says is virtually nil.
Even at the canadian centre of the 'mother' organization, I wasn't mistreated (mostly cuz we got out for one of the few 'acceptable' reasons imo) and in fact really enjoyed my 'assignment'.
