now, of course, w might be a paragon of virtue in comparison, at least with regard to oral sex in the oval office, but many people who have criticised aspects of his presidency have had all sorts of accusations rained down upon their heads.

Jeez, Jelly and Yerusalyim!!! Where do you get your distorted facts from? Do you have a specific scientific poll at your ready that no one else is privy to? I am a proud American and I have only heard such clap trap from the likes of Rush Limbaugh and his loud-mouthed, ultra-conservative talk show clones. Most Americans do not believe the stuff you just posted.

IMO, you Clinton-haters are just jealous that you can't get a b***job and talk on the telephone at the same time.

I hate to be so negative, but this constant barrage against anyone who sincerely questions the Bush Administration's policies just plain P****s me off.

Are there any teachers on this board?

so, i'm thinking about becoming a high school teacher.

i'm finishing up a summer course at my community college and will be going to northeaster illinois university in the fall.

i've been thinking about majoring in biology and secondary education (instead of history and secondary ed.).

I have been a teacher for many years. Forget the naysayers. If you want to become a teacher, go for it. However, if you think you are going to do it to make money, forget it.

Teaching has to almost be a calling, IMO. I started off teaching high school in Wisconsin. Four years later, I moved to California and had a job as a high school counselor. I was shocked at the difference in the educational systems between the two states. In CA the parents ruled. Budgets for necessities were tight.

Then, I had the good fortune to begin teaching at a community college, where I have been ever since. (many, many moons.) It has been intellectually stimulating, exciting and I have had a lot of freedom. No, I did not get rich.

Here is the good part: I just took an early retirement. (I am much younger, cuter and sexier than you might think.) Because of all my years of teaching, I will be able to continue with my medical benefits and will get about 98% of my base pay. People I know who made lots more money than I are unable to retire because they cannot live on their retirement.

So, if you want to have your life's work be meaningful and have value....at least at the end of it all, there may be a little payback.

a convicted murderer getting executed or a convicted murderer being released after serving the minimum of a life sentence, 15 years?.

btw, before anyone even mentions the low recidivism rate of murderers, you must realize that that is only for those that have been caught.

I just find it amusing that Bush (of course he is the compassionate conservative!) doesn't give a flying F*** about the atrocities perpetuated against our own civilians: people living below the poverty line, children starving, constantly cutting programs for the elderly, mentally ill,education...I could go on. Does he care more for the Iraqi children than our own?

Those of you who have such blind hatred for anyone disagreeing with your gung-ho pro-war stance need to step back a moment. I live in one of the most ultra conservative counties in America--Orange County in Southern California. While my observations do not a scientific survey make, I can tell you that the flag-waving is almost blinding. Suddenly everyone has gotten religion. These rich Republicans are not interested in those who are down-trodden if it means they have to spend 1 red cent of their tax dollar for them. They just love George-W.-God wanted-me-to-be-President-Bush. But they love pushing people around. I guess that is why they love W.

Makes me sick. Patriots, my foot.

Why can't you give your opinions of the topic--the war-- without attacking or applying motivation to others who disagree? Don't undermine your own credibility by the totally inappropriate personal comments.

I have read all posts on this painful thread and it saddens me. I am against this war. This does not make me anti-American. I support our troops 100%. I love America. I hate war, especially this one. That does not make me anti-American. I don't care much for George W. Bush. This does not make me Anti-American. I respect those who disagree with me. I do not respect when they tell me what I am because I don't agree with them.

Black/white thinking. Hmmm. Reminds me of the JWs.

Laurie, I am just sickened at the response you had from Olivia. It does not appear to me that she has much knowledge of the child sexual abuse issue. That is beside the point anyway. It is the cover-up. It is the way they are handling the victims. It is the way you were treated.

Your story was told, IMO, very straight-forwardly and meant to convey facts and I was glad to hear it after watching Dateline.

I am learning here of just how sad it is to hear those who have been so brain-washed that they use the name Jehovah to excuse every evil done by their cult.

Thanks for bringing this up. You are not the Judgemental one.

I don't know where she got that. I just assumed it was also one of their things. She was still 5 then, but must have heard it somewhere.

But, I am glad to have you point out anything that will help.

BTW, I would be sooo happy if this weren't for real. I guess I have much more to learn. I don't know why I seemed to be inauthentic.

I have been a serious lurker here for about a month--addicted, as it were. Here's why: I have been on a quest to learn about JWs. Seven years ago my son started dating a DF'd JW. He did not know this about her until it was too late! She was pregnant. As I got to know and love her, I decided to try to understand why she seemed so damaged by her JW experience.
I started by studying more about cults which led me to Barbara Grizzuti Harris's book. It was out of print and I could not find it. One day I found a quaint, little used bookstore and out popped the book from a high shelf! What an eye opener it was. I even discussed it with my then daughter-in-law. Her stories from her life broke my heart--sexual abuse as a child, shunned now by her JW family and friends......
Fast forward to the present. After being out of this cult for TEN YEARS, she recently was reinstated. Why is it any of my business? I have the most lovable six year old grandchild whom I love more than my own life. When I heard that X was starting to attend meetings, I got sooo scared. It was my worst fear that this could happen. I also found Randy Watter's site and ordered books and materials for my son and for me. My son is almost paralyzed with fear and there is not much he can do to protect his beautiful child. We have been restricted in our interactions with the little one in may ways and are feeling so helpless/powerless. Is love enough? We have noticed such a difference since the mom started back--low self-esteem, frightened, etc. Example: "Nana, I love you so much. I want to see you at the Rapture."
How could someone who suffered so much herself do this to her own child?
I hope it is O.K. to post here and I am sorry to be so wordy. I seriously tried to cut it way down to the basics. Learning the lingo, more about the inane beliefs and,especially, your stories has at least given me some tools to cope. Knowledge is power?
