Saturday Is THE BIG DAY!!
by minimus inour daughter's getting married!
and her (pioneer) grandmother, her best jw friend, my brother and his jw family, and one longtime elder friend and his wife will be there.
tonight is the rehearsal dinner.

They just announced the 2nd USA hostage has been executed
by Brummie inthey are taking the reports off aljezzera but say they need more evidence.. it appears the uk hostage has no chance and will be the 3rd, his family have just been on the tv condemning the prime minister for the iraq war and asking for his resignation.
but what can a prime minister do?

The government saying we cannot negotiate with terrorists. How many years did the UK government spend negotiating with the IRA for a ceasefire. They will negotiate when it suits, but they are a puppet to the US administration on this one.

Well nothing is broken...
by Lady Lee inthank goodness.. for the last couple of days one toe has felt so bruised i could barely touch it.
the today the other foot swelled up and i can barely touch any of that.
i don't need this.. back in may a doctor put me on an anti-inflammatory drug.

WHAT IF WE DIDN'T POISON CHILDREN'S MINDS WITH FANTASY?
by Terry inevery baby born seems to have a giant helping of fairy stories, talking animals, outrageous exaggerations parading as "fact" and an endless stream of cartoons, science fiction and make-believe.
the laws of nature and physics are violated every few seconds in film and tv!
is it surprising that children are not only ignorant of how things really work-but, they don't have patience and an appetite for fact when they get to the schoolroom.

Princess - My comment was not aimed at you, just a general comment after reading the thread, also I was thinking of one of the mothers at the school my kids go to who insists that her kids believe ! . No offense intended sorry, I should have made it clearer.

And as with Santa also all of the other imagined beings. Kids know they aren't real. Stories are just that stories.
Yes I agree, kids are smart and can see through things. We have never told ours that Santa is not real but they know. That doesn?t change the fact that they get really excited when they see pictures of Santa or things on TV etc - but that is purely because of what Santa represents, not because they believe in him. A nice time, presents, decorations and fun things in school etc. If someone tells their kids that they have to believe in Santa to have Christmas, well of course the kid is going to say they believe.Along the same lines:
When Liam was 5 he had an accident in school and knocked out his front tooth. It was the first tooth he had lost so the story of the tooth fairy had never come up. Anyway the school rang me and asked me to come and pick him up because he was upset. When I got there he was sitting in the office with the headmaster, who was telling him that the tooth fairy would visit him tonight. Liam was looking at him as if to say ?What the hell are you smoking?? I didn?t say anything. We left school and were walking home and Liam said Mr XXX said that the tooth fairy would come and visit me tonight and give me some money , that?s stupid ? fairies aren?t real, but can I have some pocket money !

update on Joy and Steve
by Mulan ini just talked to joy and she said to tell everyone they are fine.
they lost electricity so can't get on computers.. tornadoes came through awhile ago and killed two people, but they are doing fine, and have 5 strong young fellows, with them, to help when things get too bad later tonight.
the water is now in their yard, on the yard side of the picket fence, for those who have been there.
