in the last 24 hours i have heard of two instances where the jw parents of disfellowshipped children have been willing and seemingly happy to have association with them ie having them visit and for meals.
both say that there were topics to be avoided during conversation but that it was a major improvement on the way things had been.. in both of these situations the adult children are married to non believers.. is this just a coincidence?.

Is this just a coincidence? Has there been 'new light'? Have the CO's got a new outline? Has anybody got any answers?

hi everyone, i'd like to tell about my dad's reasons for staying a jw!!.
firstly, does he believe the world was created?, yes.. secondly, does he believe in god?, yes.. what is the only book written, claiming to be the word of god?
the bible.. so here we have a man who believes in god and the bible.. so, taking the advice and information from the bible, it tells him that there will be a 'faithful and discreet slave class', by the way 'class' is a word i think was invented by jw's, but that's a different story.. 'they will be separate from the world', o.k, jw's, fine.. 'they will use the lords name-jehovah', o.k, jw's, again.. he also believes that they offer the best interpretation of revelations, that's opinion.. 'they will preach to all the inhabited earth', jw's mainly, i think, or at least , he thinks.. also, whenever he has fallen away and been really low, he has prayed, and he swears that both times, a jw has been at the door, even if they haven't been for months.. he knows they have made mistakes, but he thinks they are too close to what the bible says are the 'chosen ones', that he is willing to stick with them.. or is he brainwashed?.
But is he happy with the JW's? Years ago I remember an older DO saying to us that "if people are happy with their religion who are we to make them unhappy?" and I guess that works both ways. He was one of the most down to earth society men Iv'e met. I wonder were he is now?
Its horrible when you feel down, but try not to let the org ruin the rest of your life. You have got free. Try to keep loving those of your family who are still enslaved. Its hard to do but will make you feel better even if that love isnt returned at the moment. I am sure that you have others in your new life who respect you for who and what you are, build on that and then I am sure that the down times will happen less often and with less intensity. Remember you are not on your own with a DB like this. Write it down. People here do care and lots are going through similar situations to you. When you are feeling good your posts to others have been encouraging now let others help you.
a letter to the editor of local paper, april 24, 01 (vancouver, bc).
thought you might enjoy.
i am writing this to inform the people of chilliwack of a plague that seems to affect well-groomed, articulate individuals living in our fair city.. many months ago we posted a sign on our front door that says "no soliciting' due to the fact that the sanctity of our home was constantly being invaded by individuals seeking to save us, sell us something or wanting money or some kind of donation.
Here in UK some households have a small sign with wording to the effect that: 1 We do not buy or sell at the door 2 We do not discuss religion 3 We do not discuss politics 4 You will be asked for your ID and then asked to wait while it is verified. I am writing that from memory so it might not be quite right maybe someone here can correct me. I personally never called on such households. The only problem was you had to be withing about 2 feet of the door before you could read the sign unless of course you recognized from the gate.
In other instances we were told for the "No soliciting" to offer free home bible studies. Funny but no one ever took me up on that one.
This I think might be the WT that the beard argument is based on WT 1975 8/15 page 500-501
9 Extreme hair styles can easily lead one into a trap of the Devil also, and cause others to stumble. For example, a young man in the United States was making fine progress in his study of the Bible, and he was moved to share with an experienced Witness in preaching to others about the good things he was learning from the Bible. From early youth he had let his beard grow, and since some in the business community wore beards, he felt that his wearing one in preaching to others would be acceptable generally. But in speaking to a lady he was unable to do more than introduce himself, when she said: "I'm sorry, young man, I do not want to become involved in student revolt." No amount of explanation after this sufficed to clear up the misimpression. After the conversation ended with the closing of the door, he asked the experienced Witness what had happened. He was invited to consider his appearance in relation to what he claimed to be, a servant of God. Not wanting to be responsible for even one person's being stumbled so as to miss the way to everlasting life, this new Kingdom publisher shaved off his beard. Would you be willing to do the same or to make similar adjustments if your appearance gave the wrong impression in a certain community?

Hi Trevor, You're up and about early. Is the sun shining for you down there. Good/bad weather for FS depending on your view point. Good to hear from someone in the SE
can someone please tell me exactly what constitutes a df'ing offence?.
i recently read a post where someone said that they were df'd for committing "adultery in the heart", someone else for gambling, someone else for smoking etc etc.
it's all very puzzling, back in the 60's the wtbts had a down on "petting and necking" but it wasn't df'able.
Talking of beards etc has anyone noticed how many brothers acquire beards/moustaches when they step down or drop out. I have often wondered if this is the equivalent of a finger sign to the borg. Maybe this is more like this in the UK where facial hair is a definite NO NO.
