there are hundreds and hundreds of permitted extra-curricular activities for jw's to enjoy.
activities that have nothing to do with religion or worship where jw's can really have a ball!.
so, for all of you people who sometimes wonder if you should perhaps go back, lets all list the permitted fun things that any witness can do in his / her spare time.. i'll get the ball rolling:.

hi everyone.. my name is caspian, i am an elder in a congregation in england.. i have been reading this forum for about 12 months, never having the confidence to log in.. however after all the information that has come to light in the recent weeks, i feel that i need to start coming to terms with the crisis that i now feel.. i am a third gen jw, and been an elder for 15 years, my family whom i love dearly are all naive fully committed jw's.. please if any current or ex elders in a similar situation care to make any good advice.
please help.. sincere regards.

Hi caspian and welcome.
Take care if you are still an elder. Most cong friendships are totally conditional. We have found that out, and I am know many here will agree.
Even ones we holidayed with for years and whose children grew up with ours have never come to see us, despite other half serving alongside them as a fellow elder.
Dont expect anything from the BOE and you wont be dissappointed.
The longest journey begins with just one step. Well done, you have taken that step.

A hobby can even help you to advance spiritually. If you like to make models, for example, might not building a miniature ark deepen your appreciation of the strength of Noahs faith? (See box.) Constructing a model tabernacle or temple may likewise improve your knowledge of the way Gods servants worshiped long ago. In Bible times the shepherd boy David played the harp in his spare time. Later he composed beautiful songs to Jehovahs praise. Could you learn to play a musical instrument yourself? If so, why not use your talent to praise God by learning some of the melodies in the songbook Sing Praises to Jehovah? As you play the music, ponder over the sentiments the lyrics convey. Are you a collector? Then gather items that relate to the Bible. Or try filling a scrapbook with pictures of Bible lands.
there was a thread encouraging us all to write to our local mp regarding the child abuse issue.
i did this by email to my local mp terry lewis, mp for worsley, greater manchester, uk.. here is his response letter which i received today:.
23 july 2002. .
Well done Sirona, lets hope more will write to their MP's.
We have written and are still waiting for a reply. The letters went out on Thursday via snail mail so maybe it is a bit soon for any response.
One thing that concerned me is when does parliament break for the recession? Will this have any bearing on the questions being asked or can it be carried over? Does anyone know?

question from reader's.
my husband and i took the kids to the local dairy queen.
which is the proper term to use?
Have to disagree
here in the UK we call the coloured ones "hundreds and thousands" and the chocolate ones "vermicelli" or generically "sugar strands".
Hope this serves to thoroughly confuse the issue lol

...that men are not allowed to grow beards?.
i don't know if this is true where you live, but where i used to live, it was against "policy" for brothers to have beards.
any man who did have one was looked down upon.
Off course it doesnt say anywhere in the bible not to have a beard but here is the WTBTS spin on it anyway.

Extreme hair styles can easily lead one into a trap of the Devil also, and cause others to stumble. For example, a young man in the United States was making fine progress in his study of the Bible, and he was moved to share with an experienced Witness in preaching to others about the good things he was learning from the Bible. From early youth he had let his beard grow, and since some in the business community wore beards, he felt that his wearing one in preaching to others would be acceptable generally. But in speaking to a lady he was unable to do more than introduce himself, when she said: "Im sorry, young man, I do not want to become involved in student revolt." No amount of explanation after this sufficed to clear up the misimpression. After the conversation ended with the closing of the door, he asked the experienced Witness what had happened. He was invited to consider his appearance in relation to what he claimed to be, a servant of God. Not wanting to be responsible for even one persons being stumbled so as to miss the way to everlasting life, this new Kingdom publisher shaved off his beard. Would you be willing to do the same or to make similar adjustments if your appearance gave the wrong impression in a certain community?

When Jesus Christ was a man on earth, did he wear a beard?K.A., U.S.A.
Biblical evidence is the most reliable testimony to be found on this question, and a recent careful review of what it says indicates that Jesus did indeed have a beard..
Nevertheless, as already shown, it is apparent that Jesus did wear a beard, and so artistic representations of him in future Watch Tower publications will harmonize with the Scriptural evidence to that effect.
Doubtless the early Christians followed the custom of the time and locality in which they lived, with regard to the wearing of a beard. The Roman custom was beardlessness. Romans converted to Christianity would very likely continue in the Roman custom, while converts from the Jewish community would continue in the Jewish custom of wearing a beard.
Today Christian ministers, like the early Christians, are concerned with neatness and cleanness, but they strive to dress inconspicuously, so that their appearance does not in any way detract from the dignity or the effectiveness of the message they bear. (2 Cor. 6:3, 4) In recent years in many lands a beard or long hair on a man attracts immediate notice and may, in the minds of the majority, classify such a person undesirably with extremists or as rebels against society. Gods ministers want to avoid making any impression that would take attention away from their ministry or hinder anyone from listening to the truth. They know that people are watching true Christians very critically and that to a great extent they judge the entire congregation and the good news by the ministers appearance as a representative of the congregation.
In paradise restored on earth it would not be out of order if men returned to wearing beards, in perfect fashion, like Adam in Eden.
last saturday i was in sydney at townhall station and the dubs were set up at their usual stand just between the station and the queen victoria building, underground.
