defd...all the things you mention are faith teachings. Nothing can be proved thus far as fact. Take the Paradise earth...have you seen it yet? If so tell me where it is so I can go look for myself. I know that you believe the Paradise teaching to be true, but where is your evidence? It is a faith you have that this is going to happen. Is it true? That remains to be seen.

As a Jw, I tried to be careful in presenting my faith as such (faith that these things are true) and always directed people to what the Bible says about a subject. Other than that, there is no source for belief in what you are saying.

No, It's not BIG news

the ties to the un, yes that was huge for me.

the child abuse, yes, even bigger.

Apaga...I feel the same way. I've said many times how much I appreciate all the people that have stuck their neck out in exposing the "truth." I have been an activist in trying to get the information out about the U.N., child abuse, and even helped with candlelight vigils. I wish this had a bigger punch but hope that down the line it will help all those who have suffered because of deception. I hate to see so many people get their hopes up this early in the game that a class action lawsuit may soon be on the horizon.

One poster is already giving his old mother a hard time in the hospital and trying to force her to change her stance on the blood issue. This is what I so hoped would not happen...she deserves his support at this particular time, not pushing this issue. He is talking about filing a lawsuit if anything happens to her using this info...when in reality he needs to make sure his actions don't kill her.

My mother is 80 and left the JW teachings behind 5 years ago. However, it is her wish not to have a blood transfusion and that is her right as a citizen of this country. I will respect her wishes, no matter what my opinions are. I love her very much and can't imagine what life will be like without her in it. She knows that she can trust me to carry out her medical directives.

I recently asked both my grown sons whether they would want a blood transfusion should they ever need it. One said "no" and the other said "hook me up!" I will also abide by their wishes.

I love Freedom....free at last, free at last to choose whatever we want!!!!!

Respectfully, A.S., when you get in a courtroom, intent is one of the hardest things to prove!!! I have sat in many courtroom cases and my mouth has dropped open so many times in what I thought was an open and shut case. The legal process is a very complicated one as you well know.

I wonder if this might fall into the same category as trying to prove medical malpractice. I had a situation arise a few years ago, where a group of doctors thought I had a very good chance of winning a medical malpractice lawsuit. I went to the Best Lawyers in the state that only pursued these types of cases. They informed me that I had to prove "intent." Did these drs. intentionally make this bad decision? Drs. know a Lot more about medicine than the WTS and the answer was NO.

With the WTS...maybe a question that will have to asked is if they intentionally misrepresented information in order to harm members? There are so many questions that will come up as regards the basis of the information that they put out there. One thing that most of the pamphlets state is that this information needs to be discussed with your doctor and you are encouraged to give the doctors this information. The HLC's constantly meet with medical staff to be sure they are on the same page...a lot of work goes into that. What will the courts see when information is presented to them showing that the WTS is trying to work with the medical community? Is the legal community aware that HLC's have established working relationships with many hospitals?

Many have already stated that really this is not a medical issue as the WTS has maintained for years but rather a Bible based issue. I can see so much spin the WTS can put on this already and you can be sure they haven't been putting all those guys through law school for nothing.

The Big News: Should Religion Be Held Responsible For Its Teachings?

i posted this in the huge post by barbara anderson (yes, that one!).

i'll provide the context of where you can find it in that post later.

but, i've been contemplating this issue, and this is what i've boiled it down to.

Should religious organizations be any less legally liable for knowingly misleading their members in life and death issues? Why should religions be exempt for making written statements to their followers or potential followers that they know are out of context, misleading and at times outright lies? Religions have literally gotten away with murder for centuries based on a variety of legal, social and political platforms.

Every organization should always tell the truth. The government, religion, news media, etc. SHOULD but don't always tell the truth. How do you make them responsible/liable for the many lies and deceptive practices that they perpetuate each and every day? The news media "edits" their material before it's released. If you've ever been interviewed you realize that what you say isn't always portrayed in the light it was meant. We elect govenment officials to make laws for the good of all people and find out that many are there only to line their own pockets. And yes govenments often mislead their citizens in life or death issues, all you have to do is look at the war in Iraq and the issues facing the CIA.

Can we stop the lies? and the liars that tell the lies?

IT Support...this is exactly what I have a problem with:

News agencies, journalists (including religious correspondents) in 'serious' newspapers and news magazines.
If the Big News is about blood, include medical associations and organizations and medical 'trade' magazines and journals, journalists who specialize in medical matters (medical correspondents).and don't forget government health departments. Remember also lawyers who have handled blood or child abuse cases or who specialize in family matters.
If the Big News is about a legal matter, include legal associations and organizations, lawyers' 'trade' magazines and journals and journalists who specialize in legal matters (legal correspondents).
If the Big News is about a medical legal matter, we'll have struck gold and will be able use all our researched email addresses.

I hope this is NOT a blood issue...it has been before the courts for years and viewed upside down and inside out. I for one appreciate the Constitution upholding our rights to choose in this matter. I will NOT be an activist for trying to change freedom. That being said, I don't think that children should die at the hands of uneducated parents and I do agree that in that case drs. should administer what they feel is needed. If a dr. gives a child a blood transfusion and the parents disagree with that decision, then they will just have to get over it and realize it was the dr. not them that is responsible. I think the WTS should change their stance on that issue. But as an adult, I want the right to choose and I don't want to be forced to take any treatment that I don't want.

If, however, the GB owns bloodbanks, and is giving transfusions at Bethel, then I'm in! That would be BIG NEWS!!!

If it turns out that they have misrepresented what they have told their members, every religious organization out there does the same. Most people are smart enough to lead their own lives and show up for church for an hour on Sunday.
