Another experience story about leaving the society

i was raised a dub, though not born one.

my mother had told the woman her story about studying in the 70's and that she believed the dubs were on to something but just didn't really care.

what i need are some dub friends.

Great read!!! And I'm glad you proved all those points to yourself...that helps so much more than someone else just saying it. Glad to hear about your family also. When I first heard about the U.N affiliation...I had heard a few rumors about the inconsistencies in the Evolution book. I headed to the library to see this for myself. I have to admit that I was totally shocked by what I found. I was in a daze for several hours...it was such a strange feeling to see right there in print how the WTS could so blatantly decieve us. It was all downhill...or really it was uphill from there!

seems like every day i have less and less jw friends... but every so often i'll receive an email or msn message from one saying something witnessy, only to not be able to reply to it because that person has blocked my messages.

anyone else notice this trend?

it seems to me that fearful or insecure people do stuff like that... they have plenty so say, but with no ears to hear anything back.... bethel

Poll regarding Blood Issue

The medical issues were not influential in my rejecting blood transfusions. (Actually, I only slightly scanned over the blood booklet, but would give it to a dr. if I had surgery to undergo. I always signed documents stating this was due to my RELIGIOUS beliefs, nothing to do with medical.)

I was born and raised a JW and never questioned the validity of their medical or scriptual statements until the last few years.

BeepBeep Needs to Know About 1975!!!

i know that many of you have the information discussing the watchtower's view on this and why so many thought it was going to be the beginning of armageddon and the mass exodus from the org when nothing happened.

i remember it very well and my mom telling me not to get my hopes up because she had been looking for the ancient worthies to appear for years at the assemblies and that never happened.

then they changed their prophesy on that too!!!

BB..you are misunderstanding what we are saying. It wasn't doctrine. That doesn't mean that is wasn't promoted as being the beginning of Armageddon and the end of this system. They claimed that 1975 concluded 6000 yrs of man's existance on earth...follow the logic here. Christ's reign is supposed to last a thousand years...6000 + 1000 = 7000...Which is how many years they claimed each creative day was. So the thousand year reign of Christ had to fit in the 7th creative day...as the 8th day would start and the world had to be back a paradise by then. When that didn't happen, they had "new light" in which they said it must be that the creative days were much longer than 7000 yrs each. Then accused the R&F of misunderstanding. (How would we have known had they not promoted it?) Get it?

In 1914 when the group went out and stood on the Brooklyn Bridge expecting God to rapture them up to heaven, they had not stopped the facilities at Bethel or anywhere else in the world. They apparently kept everything going just in case they could be wrong, in other words CYA. Get it?

One thing about the WTS they always have Plan B (and probably xy&z)

BB--I'm not sure exactly what you are expecting to get from this thread other than the information that has already been posted. 1975 was not a taught doctrine. It was implied in talks at the KH, from CO's, and at assemblies. We were encouraged to give up material things, education, etc. and focus all of our attention on the preaching work. Many sold their homes and went to serve where the need was great. The PO in the hall I was in sold everything, moved to Mexico with his 3 children and when things didn't end in 1975, came back broke and disillusioned. His children left the org never to return...one ended up in prison. Several Bible studies that I had at the time quit...never to return. That's all we can really say...you just had to have been there and lived through it to understand how much emphasis was put on it all ending then. I was encouraged by everyone in the hall and the CO to quit school and start pioneering. I did for a while, then decided to go back!

Is Christmas for fun?

given that so many practises associated with christmas are blatantly christian in origin but christianity endorses spiritual self-flagellation/crucifixion, moderation, and enough "-isms" to make your eyes water, is christmas truly for fun?

i know that often there are few christian connotations attributed to it nowadays, in such a hedonistic and sensory society, but history is on record in showing that the whole baby jesus thing is definitely a christian element.

would any true hedonist today want to drink such a mixed cup (potentially of poor-grade wine)?

i'm not sure where this idea came from, but apparently it's been discovered that hardly anyone is actually "laughing out loud" when using the term "lol".

lol if they really are laughing out loud, there is something wrong with them (they could be retarded or have a bad sense of humor lol).

please show your support for my new cause in which i attempt to bannish the term lol from the english language.

Good for you Legolas!!! I had 3 older brothers and just hated all that crap they spewed at the meetings...I made sure they knew a woman had brains at home though!!! I must have really snowed them as they still call and ask for advice!!! Ha! Ha! LOL! He! He! (That's in case Ballistic reads this thread!)
