My daughter(16) was there for 2 weeks this summer, on a church mission trip. They rebuilt some orphanages, very poor area of the DR. She also said driving there is interesting, they saw a car go over a cliff.

Can a staunch Democrat be good friends with a staunch Republican?
by journey-on infor those with strong political views, is it impossible to be really good friends with someone on the other side?
my very best friends either tend to think like me on the political continuum or have no care whatsoever for politics.
those with exceptionally strong leaning toward the other party tend to get mean and nasty in political discussions which invariably deteriorate hopes for a deeper friendship.. what has been your experience?.

Sure... I have buds from all parties. I am neither nor, I think they are all crooked and self-serving, so I lean my way.
As was said, the main thrust is the discussion, minus party quotes or hate-speak.

New grandkid
by animal inwe are expecting the second grandkid next week, on 8-3... planned c-section.
my job is to watch our first one until all is done then take him in to meet his new sister.
he is 1 1/2, and my buddy.. well, i just got a call that my son thinks her water just broke.

Yes, there is now another Animal-Offspring in the world. McKenna was born Friday morning..... 9lb 5 oz.... 21 inches long. All is well, they all went home today. We spent the weekend babysitting her big brother, our 1 1/2 yr old grandson.

i currently have my solar panel that charges up my battery in the daytime, and then at night - i use the battery to light 3 5-watt leds.
there is enough light in the living room to see - and do a little bit of reading by.

mutual respect
by Hortensia indid you ever notice that people who want "mutual respect" or "compromise" or "consensus" or "discussion" really just want you to shut up and listen to them?
they don't really want any of those things; they just want to put the other person in the wrong for disagreeing.
if they really wanted a "discussion," they'd have the courtesy to reply to comments, rather than just do a hit and run sermon.

i'm not too fond of the state i'm in but i'm within close driving distance of some very cool places.
the people in the south are awesome, very hospitable.

I may have the best of both worlds.... Our house is in Mesa, AZ and I work/live in San DIego. I run back and forth lots, on weekends, and there is a world of difference between the two places. I am a short drive to the beach here in San Diego, but never go there. I am a short drive to Mexico but never go there. L.A. is about an hour or so away, but I avoid that place as much as possible.
Mesa, a suburb of Phoenix, is almost as busy as San Diego BUT they planned thier roads out to handle it. Traffic keeps moving, for the most part.
Housing in San Diego is 3X that in Mesa,.... at least.
I dont like California, but I like my job.... in 2 years, my daughter is out of school and the would is wide open to move anywhere. Having the motorhome that I live in makes it easy.

When I say custom mugs, these are an example of what I have been making. I get orders from 1 to 30 at a time, mostly for reunions and businesses. I print anything, no rules and no limits. I do this here in San Diego.
As for the rest of the business, it is located in Phoenix, AZ.... the kids are starting it up... I am just the owner/money guy. They will be doing tshirts, baby clothes, etc. My son is a graphic designer and does web pages, as I do, so we are going to pile all our skills into one bucket and market it, once this newest grandkid is born (Friday).

I work full time as an engineer, and have a side business making custom coffee mugs. I just bought out a screen printing company, that the kids will run in AZ. We will be doing it thru the net and locally, when it is all set up.
The internet is the future, and the future is here.
