Think about what you're implying here. It sounds like your only defense for the song is that it's a classic. If a very similar song were written today, would you defend it just as fiercely? Nostalgia can create bias. Why do you think it took so long for the infamous Censored Eleven cartoons to be banned from syndication? People argued that they were classics, that's why. You are being biased toward a song for no other reason than that it has been around for a long time and you have fond memories of it. I am sure that there are other equally "classic" songs, books, films, etc. that you do not like at all and probably wish you could erase them from history. Again, that is bias.

Smallfoot Movie and Jehovah's Witnesses (or almost any religion)
by AnonVet ini just watched the movie smallfoot not long ago.. i wasn't expecting much, but almost from the start i felt a strong connection to religion, especially jehovah's witnesses.. the premise was about protecting lies for the benefit of the village.
hiding the truth for their own good.. one line in a song stuck me:.
"protect the lie and you protect the village".

Smallfoot was a pretty good film, and I walked away from it with all the same thoughts in mind that I'm reading here today. Glad to see someone else saw what I saw in it.
The conflicting ideas of "all we are is curious, there's nothing wrong with that," and "the only thing stronger than fear is curiosity" were interesting bullet points to address.

Just a Rant .......

and first of all my dear husband forgot again .... which is normal according to my dear old dad "it's a man thing " .
but to add insult to injury , i must wait till friday to be taken out for dinner , because low & behold my jdub husband can't miss one bloody jw meeting !

Tell him that if he thinks God really loves you two, and if He thinks marriage is SO sacred, He would prefer that you celebrate your once-a-year anniversary over a bi- or tri-weekly meeting. All the pointless crap he'd learn from the meeting is in the WT anyway, so he wouldn't miss a thing as long as he has a copy to read at home.

I've only ever studied with JWs and currently share a house with one (and been to a few meetings and conventions as well). I have no intention of joining them or any other religion. I was just wondering what distinct brand of lunacy to expect from the JWs I know in the near future.

We've been on the brink of Armageddon for well over a century, but what struck me about this particular instance was what she said next.
She informed her friend that someone she knew (a CO or something similar, by the sound of it) had given her a little hint at what the big talk at the next annual convention (or assembly? Sorry, I get them confused and don't remember what she said) would be about. Apparently the title of said talk is going to be "This Is It!"
Does anyone here recall attending talks of a similar nature in years or decades past, where the belief was that the Great Tribulation was finally imminent? Did they talk about what to expect, (i.e. Revelation 8:13 means this and this will happen) or what steps to take in order to prepare and ride it all out? -

Honestly, that sounds very suspicious to me. If SHE called YOU to give YOU encouragement, there is no logical reason why she would then go on to behave the way she did. This leads me to suspect that someone on the other end of the line knew who she was talking to and coerced her into severing ties with you.
Was she married at the time? I lost a friend of mine when her husband turned her against me. Shortly before that, I remember her lamenting the fact that she had practically no female friends to speak of since marrying him, and yet she never seemed to make the connection. He was isolating her from everyone in order to control her. -

What do you mean? Female angels are EVERYWHERE in modern art. A friend of mine collects angel figurines, and nearly every single one of the dozens and dozens that she owns is female in appearance. The very few males she has are mostly cherubs. I myself very rarely see male angels in any modern depictions of them. Here, just look at what I found during a quick Google image search:
I once asked a JW lady I was studying with why angels were more often than not depicted as female. Her response? Satan was using his influence over artists, sculptors, writers, etc. in order to make angels appear weak.
