Which was scarier... the torture scenario or the Armageddon scenario?
by Gopher infor those of us who grew up in the jw's, there were a couple of scary scenarios presented, one supposedly to happen before armageddon, and armageddon itself.. before armageddon, all jw's were going to be chased around by worldly nations because they would be the only religion left on earth, satan's system having destroyed "babylon the great" (all religions outside jw's, we were told).
so as part of that, jw's would be persecuted worldwide for being religious and proclaiming the "kingdom".. now -- connect that with the actual persecution that happened to the jw's as documented in the annual "yearbook" and in the pages of the watchtower magazine.
sometimes the details of what happened to jw's when in confinement were quite graphic and frightening.

I din't mean other people don't I was just being flippant. I was sayin more JWs will die in persecution than other religious groups. IF you look at most conflicts JWs tend to be the only ones that deliberately court persecution. Just like muslims tend to be the majority of sucide bombers. I was not saying the rest of the world is going to enjoy being lead into an orgy of war, just JWs will likely become "firm" and "take stand for Jehovah" eagerly assuming the more JWs that die martyrs the quicker they can hasten the new order. JWs are not pacifist BTW they are militants!

After reading I believe GT will happen anyway due to peak oil, but JWs are internalizing something that will happen to everyone else on the planet too. Most likely the toruture will only occur during the endless sucession of wars when the only people refusing to bear arms is JWs just like in the present. Also the wars of the future will be over resouces namely nations battling for oil.
The GT will come, but who in heck knows if armegedon is real (ie jesus coming down to kix some aczz). Disease and Sarvation is really what will kill most people like Jesus said. If you read his GT it is basicaly describing the effects of a great depression. To bad he didn't tell us we could have avioded it by weaning off the oil early. This aint gasoline and fuel economy btw this is sole dependance of oil to run an industrialized world economy period. We can't prevent it by putting up solar cells and driving Honda Insights. Just prepare for it, and get ready to starve. Who is going to take over the world to ration oil consumption until the population reaches sustainable preindustrial levels due to natural causes? Answer nobody! Too bad Bush failed. If he was smarter he could have made a larger dent in the world economy by preaching oils evils and enforcing global consevation. He is an old man and will be dead by the time I am living in the desert in the derelic hulk of my moms Caddilac Escalade jabbering about how the "WTS predicted all of this and nobody listened..blah, blah, blah," and "are we in the new order yet".
That is the scarry part what if armegedon never comes will the WTS true believers claim it came shortly after the war and population die off, and we didn't see it like some other traumatic date in human history.... Then we will be preaching about living in the 1000 year test of mankind, and how this is the time to teach the unrighteous ,and be back to square one. It is easy to newlight the physical paradise out of existance replace it with the spiritual paradise and push the physical one farther into the future maybe 3114.

Brainwashing

The problem is not brainwashing it is nationalism and patriotism juxtaposed into a religion namely the Sovereign State known as the CCJW (Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses).
Also people can easily use these arguments to describe children (in your analogy Child abuse victims) raised Jehovah's Witnesses, but not converts the majority of the JW population. In reality most of these people were real hellraisers, and were able to find normalcy in a highly controlled regimented life style the same theory behind prison reform, and after school programs for inner city youths. I believe the problem is some people, or "normal" people are negatively effected by this regiment. In other words sane people put into mental institutions have been proven to go crazy.
I believe they are a minority of the JWs population their needs are not addressed because a third of the elder body would relapse into running drugs, and pimping hoes, while the pioneer sisters go back to street walking, and shooting up. I am being humorous, but I know in our area most of those that "reach out" the most had the worse lives before becoming a JW. Read the literature it is mostly impulse control lectures, and babysitting for adults that need something or someone to tell them what to do and how to act. The same advice the WTS gives EVERY member for EVERY thing is usually the advice "professionals" limit to alcoholics and pedophiles.
Click these links for why people join the military. It is almost identical for the reason people join CCJW.

The WTS has always taught religous tolerance. Here is part of an article from over 40 years ago.
1963 11/15 p. 688 Execution of Divine Judgment upon False Religion
EVERYONE has the right to practice the religion of his choice. This holds true at present, unless a person?s religion proves to be grossly immoral, licentious, shocking the public decency. Everyone should respect the right of everyone else to choose and live his own religion. We must observe religious toleration. 2 Our granting everyone his religious right, our refusing to interfere with each one?s religious practice, does not signify, however, that we approve of his religion or that we approve of all other religions besides our own. Our practicing religious toleration does not mean we believe that all religions are right and beneficial and that all of them lead to an eternal happy future in endless enjoyment of the god that a person worships. Neither does it mean that we recognize that, after all is said and done, still we all worship the one and the same god only under different names or by different ways of approach to him or by means of different religious ceremonies. As one Hindu author recently wrote: "Names of gods do not make religion any more than the names of men and women make up their personality. . . . Whether it be God, Jehovah, Bhagwan, Iswar, Allah, Hari, Siva or Rama, it is the same Being that in vague manner is recalled by every devotee when he utters the name which he has been brought up to associate with the mystery of the universe and idea of worship. But is that true? Do all the names of the different gods have the same history? Do they all suggest to the worshipers one and the same personality?
It is a sincere belief it has nothing to do with theocratic warfare even though theocratic warfare rocks, it has to do with personal freedom.

Iam going to find a few more quotes, but I believe the JW maifesto(the docterines backed up by scripture) to be correct. This means the WTS is right or the bible is not meant to be a credible book because it is also writen in double speak. Also I believe the watchtower is spinning its wheels. They have retired officialy from being a choosen religion. THey are basically back to the old saved by grace speel, and yet they don't know it. Instead of an inclusive saved by grace it is an exclusive saved by grace. From their own words there is no definative reason to be a JW, nor listen to the Watchtower out side of being less "babylon the great"ish than your average church.
Are all JWs saved? No.
Are all world people saved? No.
Who is saved? Unknown.
That same issue 4/01/04 has an article called "Are you focusing on the reward" it expresses my feelings exactly, but childishly rationalized legitimate fears, and is too mundane to quote. Basicaly more of the great crowd understand they personaly may not be "saved", but may be included annonymously or randomly into a mass of the God fearing population that survives TEOTWAWKI. Not because of false docterine or immorality but the simple fact IT IS THE END OF THE FREAKING WORLD! They only have one scripture to vaguely support a "Christian" being spared 2 peter 3:9.
2 Peter 3 9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. (NIV)
This says nothing about personal salvation. In other words there is not a difinative garuantee in the bible that any human can know if God is going to spare them. It says he wishes for you not to be destroyed. God does a lot of wishing in the OT and every time people still bite the big one. It is nice to read an uplifting watchtower article sincerely pleding for us to believe God actualy loves us the "great crowd", but shocking to see the denial that do not we have a biblical bases for people of certain religions being ensured salvation. Amagedon must be around the corner anytime the Watchtower has to try to explain to JWs they will survive armagedon, and enter a paradise. More proof that JWs are ignoring their own litterature including our old "door to door" conversation starters.
Basically the WTS is relagted to "the bulletin of atomic scientists" for JWs; who's only concern is how close we are to the end of the world, and not our religion. Maybe thats why the WTS is so autocratic people in the org nowdays don't believe enought of the truth to care about what is the truth, and like in the other thread "runing out the clock" ominously hovering at 7 minutes to midnight. http://www.thebulletin.org/clock.html

let the dead bury the dead
by galaxy7 insomeone in our community died and i asked the people that study with me if they were going to go.. they said no and quoted a scripture about jesus saying "let the dead bury the dead".
so i took this to mean anyone who is not a witness is considered "dead".
however they said they would attend the tea after the funeral service.. this didnt make any sense to me, why would they eat their food but not pay their respects at the funeral?

Due you are paraphrasing a Watchtower!
w87 6/1 p. 16 Practicing Godly Devotion Toward Elderly Parents ******
11
For instance, when a man declined an invitation to be Jesus? follower, saying: "Permit me first to leave and bury my father," Jesus replied: "Let the [spiritually] dead bury their dead, but you go away and declare abroad the kingdom of God." (Luke 9:59, 60) Since the Jews buried their dead on the day they died, it is unlikely that the man?s father was actually dead. Likely the man simply wanted to stay with his aging father till the father?s death. However, since other relatives evidently were on hand to render this care, Jesus encouraged the man to "declare abroad the kingdom of God."The reason is JWs have a reverent phobia of sharing in any out non-jw religious ceremony. Also that "resurrection" disposition actually disarms the traditional grieving process to the point of a cherished friends death becomes a depressing inconvenience.
Go to any JW funeral it will shock most people, it is basically a regular meeting with a talk on the resurrection with an obituary tacked on, how you really should grieve too much for the person doesn?t exist anymore, and you might even loose face if you carry on too much because obviously you must not believe in the resurrect or you may be guilty of something that?s going to get you axed in Armageddon. Unlike other religions where you go to meet the dead in the heaven, the dead are the ones that come to you on earth. This means that a Jehovah?s Witness could expect the dead to be raised anytime. As faithful JW dieing is like cheating the system for everyone else is suck with the drudgery of life and you will pop up fresh as a daisy in paradise.
Sorry about the loss but the psychology is not meant to be disrespectful. You know they cared because they came. Most deaths go totaly off our radar unless kinship is involved.

Bible Mind Control is,,, Faith: belief in the unprovable, which,is glorified
by frankiespeakin in.
the bible gives faith a very high value and make faith in god a virtue that is rewarded with everlasting life.
this,,, is what gives the bible strong power,,, over the mind causeing it not to think clearly and see the clever control faith is.

Sorry sparky "I will establish" is not present tense. They had no agreement. Abraham got the actual covenant after trying to kill his son it is in the bible plain as day. Also "because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned. I will make the son of the maidservant into a nation also, because he is your offspring." The son of the maidservant is Ishmael. Like I said 2 corpses would have meant faith.

Abraham had faith in what exactly? He was about to kill his son in an act of human sacrifice to make his God happy something very common back then. He was also not promised anything until he tried to kill his son. Also Issac was spared, and he already had another first born son Ishmeal. Faith would be if he killed both of them. Then God made a promise after he was standing over two corpses.
Genesis 22
9 Finally they reached the place that the [true] God had designated to him, and Abraham built an altar there and set the wood in order and bound Isaac his son hand and foot and put him upon the altar on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham put out his hand and took the slaughtering knife to kill his son. 11 But Jehovah?s angel began calling to him out of the heavens and saying: "Abraham, Abraham!" to which he answered: "Here I am!" 12 And he went on to say: "Do not put out your hand against the boy and do not do anything at all to him, for now I do know that you are God-fearing in that you have not withheld your son, your only one, from me."
1
The israelites had little faith if any in Moses. Remember Korah, Mariam, and them asking for leets and other foods of egypt instead of mana! They wanted to kill Moses.
EXODUS 17 And the entire assembly of the sons of Israel proceeded to depart from the wilderness of Sin by stages, which they took according to the order of Jehovah, and went camping at Reph´i·dim. But there was no water for the people to drink.2 And the people fell to quarreling with Moses and saying: "Give us water that we may drink." But Moses said to them: "Why are YOU quarreling with me? Why do YOU keep putting Jehovah to the test?" 3 And the people went on thirsting there for water, and the people kept murmuring against Moses and saying: "Why is it that you have brought us up out of Egypt to put us and our sons and our livestock to death by thirst?" 4 Finally Moses cried out to Jehovah, saying: "What shall I do with this people? A little longer and they will stone me!"5Then Jehovah said to Moses: "Pass in front of the people and take with you some of the older men of Israel and your rod with which you struck the Nile River. Take it in your hand and you must walk on. 6 Look! I am standing before you there on the rock in Ho´reb. And you must strike on the rock, and water must come out of it, and the people must drink it." Subsequently Moses did so under the eyes of the older men of Israel. 7 So he called the name of the place Mas´sah and Mer´i·bah, because of the quarreling of the sons of Israel and because of their putting Jehovah to the test, saying: "Is Jehovah in our midst or not?"
Actually Noah did not have faith.
Genesis 6:17-18
17 "And as for me, here I am bringing the deluge of waters upon the earth to bring to ruin all flesh in which the force of life is active from under the heavens. Everything that is in the earth will expire. 18 And I do establish my covenant with you; and you must go into the ark, you and your sons and your wife and your sons? wives with you.
Faith would be if Jehovah said build a mysterious 300x50 cubit three story wooden water tight object. He was told explictly what was going to happen, and then ensured absolute survival.
