The Bible gives faith a very high value and make faith in God a virtue that is rewarded with everlasting life.

This,,, is what gives the Bible strong power,,, over the mind causeing it not to think clearly and see the clever control faith is.

yes. Why the need for faith? It smells like a clever control thing... I agree. like they made it up as they went along. Or came along afterwards and added to the original idea. 2000 years later, I'm not buying it.

THis is a half truth. The old testament has zero faith. Note Jesus to the Jews.

"O faithless and twisted generation, how long must I continue with you and put up with you?"?LUKE 9:41.

Jesus invented faith as part of religion, and Paul industrialized it. Before then it was just a bunch of "holy" history. "Uncle Jacob broke his hip trying beating up an angel so we can't eat hips anymore. By the way pray for an end to this famine!"

XQsThaiPoes. You had mentioned this before on my other thread about faith, but I thought about it again after you used the term "half truth", which is really pretty strong. Anyway, I'm a little rusty on my OT facts, but wasn't Abraham asked to sacrifice his son? but then didn't have to do it? I could list many examples of OT folks whose actions showed they had faith. I'm sorry but I think I need to disagree with you on the "half truth" label.

I'm not sure I understand that statement. Paul wrote about the faith of Abraham, believing that God would bless him sometime later in the future, and that he could sacrifice Isaac and still have the dream come true, etc.

Also the loyal Israelites wandering in the wilderness had to have faith that Moses was the man chosen by God. If they didn't, they wouldn't make the promised land -- maybe the ground would swallow them up first.

Noah had to have faith in the ark to build the flood.

I'm just going by the accounts as written in the Old Testament. Only faith-filled people seemed to get the approval of the Hebrew God Jehovah/Yahweh/Lord.

I'd love to know what the point is of your recent spate of threads.
Questions to stir up the mentally challenged?

You've done plenty of attacking of beliefs, whilst providing little substancial argumentation.
You don't even provide anything "better" for people to grasp, other than your assertions that everyone who holds said beliefs must be in error.

    Great

I used to enjoy your posts, but that delight is becoming a rare pleasure...

Sorry, it's just my perspective, and I felt you ought to know.

Abraham had faith in what exactly? He was about to kill his son in an act of human sacrifice to make his God happy something very common back then. He was also not promised anything until he tried to kill his son. Also Issac was spared, and he already had another first born son Ishmeal. Faith would be if he killed both of them. Then God made a promise after he was standing over two corpses.

    Genesis 22

9 Finally they reached the place that the [true] God had designated to him, and Abraham built an altar there and set the wood in order and bound Isaac his son hand and foot and put him upon the altar on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham put out his hand and took the slaughtering knife to kill his son. 11 But Jehovah?s angel began calling to him out of the heavens and saying: "Abraham, Abraham!" to which he answered: "Here I am!" 12 And he went on to say: "Do not put out your hand against the boy and do not do anything at all to him, for now I do know that you are God-fearing in that you have not withheld your son, your only one, from me."

The israelites had little faith if any in Moses. Remember Korah, Mariam, and them asking for leets and other foods of egypt instead of mana! They wanted to kill Moses.

EXODUS 17 And the entire assembly of the sons of Israel proceeded to depart from the wilderness of Sin by stages, which they took according to the order of Jehovah, and went camping at Reph´i·dim. But there was no water for the people to drink.2 And the people fell to quarreling with Moses and saying: "Give us water that we may drink." But Moses said to them: "Why are YOU quarreling with me? Why do YOU keep putting Jehovah to the test?" 3 And the people went on thirsting there for water, and the people kept murmuring against Moses and saying: "Why is it that you have brought us up out of Egypt to put us and our sons and our livestock to death by thirst?" 4 Finally Moses cried out to Jehovah, saying: "What shall I do with this people? A little longer and they will stone me!"5Then Jehovah said to Moses: "Pass in front of the people and take with you some of the older men of Israel and your rod with which you struck the Nile River. Take it in your hand and you must walk on. 6 Look! I am standing before you there on the rock in Ho´reb. And you must strike on the rock, and water must come out of it, and the people must drink it." Subsequently Moses did so under the eyes of the older men of Israel. 7 So he called the name of the place Mas´sah and Mer´i·bah, because of the quarreling of the sons of Israel and because of their putting Jehovah to the test, saying: "Is Jehovah in our midst or not?"

Actually Noah did not have faith.

    Genesis 6:17-18

17 "And as for me, here I am bringing the deluge of waters upon the earth to bring to ruin all flesh in which the force of life is active from under the heavens. Everything that is in the earth will expire. 18 And I do establish my covenant with you; and you must go into the ark, you and your sons and your wife and your sons? wives with you.

Faith would be if Jehovah said build a mysterious 300x50 cubit three story wooden water tight object. He was told explictly what was going to happen, and then ensured absolute survival.
