It is not a straw man, but you probably have more respect for religion (I am not calling you religious) in general than I do. In real life they are normal church people, like everyone else. Many here know the facade that JWs have, just because we claim something does not mean we believe it or practice it. Call it false advertising, but that?s the truth. .

WT illegal doctrine
by itsallgoodnow inafter reading the nov 1 1999 questions from readers about voting... http://www.jwfiles.com/vote.htm.
i'm wondering if they felt they needed to change their teachings on this because they feared legal action against them for disenfranchising their people.
am i on the right track with this?

Actually you demostrated the lack of control the watchtower has. If GW Bush told the troops to come home, but they kept on fighting because they thought it was right would you think he was in control?

Yeah if you already live like a hermit, or live in a rural area that already uses solar power to run the farmhouse you are almost safe. Realistically you'll need to stockpile weapons and ammo personally or donate them to your local laws enforcement. People from the city will migrate to your town and cause trouble. It is sort of like the hell angels in the 60's they didn't stop terrorizing small towns until people started packing major heat. I believe mega cites like Mexico City will morph out of the stable population centers, with a brown ring of shantytowns on the outskirts. The reason is the closer you pack people the more efficient they are. What will save the human race is cutting overhead more than anything. To bad there will be some places destroyed by war, but if we have war now why would people think it would go away in the future when we have less resources than we do now?

Logical: I agree that?s why I am still a JW in good standing. After much research I realized that if JWs are wrong; so what take a number pull up a chair, and wait to be called. Religion is stupid anyway I only like JWs because I like the story they tell better than others. Have I lost my faith no. Do I care if what I believe is wrong nope, for I have no way of proving any other religion right. If you want to know what God is like read the story of Noah or Lot. Be you a Drunk or a Pervert God just comes in, and forces salvation upon you.

RM so you are saying what I am saying. The JWs make their own rules up that are not official and if pressed the WTS would blame the "elders" for being over zealous. The WTS would not reinstate you because they don't care and would leave it with you to patch it up with your local cong.

SHEEP and GOATS DID IT CHANGE?
by Gordy in.
am i right in thinking that about 1995 the teaching on the "sheep and goats" of matt 25 changed.. i vaguely remember that pre-1995 it used to regarded that the sheep and goats were judged on how they received the preaching work.
then post-1995 it changed to that jesus would judge them when he came at armageddon.. can anyone tell if this is right.

Yes you are right. More proof the watchtower is retiring. Every thing that made JWs an exclusive group is almost eroded. If more JWs understood what they were reading most would only attend on sundays, and become normal "church" people. The watchtower is moving on inertia. I don't know of any modern article that show JWs to be anything, but "God's" name barer. Maybe I am out of the loop, and in fantasyland, but most people are trying to wrestle the ghost of the watchtower. I am not saying they are no longer profitable. I am not saying the WTS is dying. In fact it will probably grow substantially in the future. I am just saying they are a normal religion pretending to be a "cult" to keep the dinosaurs, and "true believers" pacified.

The voter is protected in most countries therefore nobody can know. Just vote by mail if you want to. Take note there are 4 teirs of JW doings. What the watchtower says JWs should do, what JWs do, what JWs do that the Watchtower does not know about, and what JWs do that nobody knows about.
For example the Watchtower says JWs should not swear. Most (I know a few hall swearers) reserve not swearing to"gatherings", the hall, and work. Once they come home the sailor speak issues forth quite liberally even infront of the "friends". Maybe it is hypocracy or PR I can't tell, but note the WTS wording in most modern articles, saying we "should not" is the same as we "do not". In some places Jehovah's Witnesses are no different than "worldy" people. In others walking into a kingdom hall reminds you of Gataca. I can see JWs in those conservative pockets cracking under presure, but not all have Elders that act like the MIB.

I would have to vote Jehovah. Jesus is too soft on crime.

Hey I wonder are there any threads that do Jehovah's Witneses vs Christianity vs history. In which you compare what they teach to what scholars think. You can use what JWs believe from official web site. I have hunch that the watchtower is correct, but it just may be that there is no such thing as "true" religion, or inspired word of God. Because for the life of me I can't understand how people can believe in a spirit when the people that supposed talked to God, and they are modeling their lives after didn?t. I also don't understand how the bible (mostly the OT) is writen so badly. It has major flaws that seems like a "caring" God would correct. Otherwise it implies God is fallible, or that he people that wrote the bible him made most of it up.

Big assumption. IMO the Jehovahs Witnesses are the least spiritual group I know of.
Yeah we are Marxist with a bible. If we were more "spiritual" I can sincerely say I would have probably left a long time ago.
