every so often, i will read on this board, how some people will defend and apologize for what jws do or believe in.....i just don't get it.

Yeah the problem is most JWs only think as a last resort. Look at HLS. When a JW has to use their brain to pick medical treatment they have no problem running ahead of the watchtower. It is almost as if they decide to give the watchtower the benefit of the doubt that the bible only talks of whole blood. Then take disfellowshipping many JWs are traditional. Others in the privacy of the office or home ignore the watchtower.

The problem I think like any good story suspension of disbeif is key to religion. The watchtower exploits this. The heartbreak comes when you realize that the things you were told to suspend your disbelief existed for that sole purpose a simple plot device .

Um I respect your veiw, but I can't see how the watchtower is hurtful. Many retoric engines like the watchtower promote radical ideas. In general since I have know the watchtower (the 90's till present) then have become milder and milder, more inclusive, tolerant, and corporate. Meanwhile the JWs have become less credible, hypcritical, and more "wordly".

let's assume that there is a creator of life who gots things started eons ago.

that's my persuasion, although i am not actively religious.. one major problem with belief in a creator is that he/she/it is supposed to be benevolent, loving and caring.

many evangelical christians feel he has helped them personally in various ways, emotionally, even financially.

My "roundabout excuses" are called REAL LIFE!

Just becuase you think the watchtower is some government of God or false prophet or whatever does not mean it has to be. They are a realestate developer and publishing company. They print editorials, oppion articles, and a few pieces of journalism, but mostly "self help" materials.

They are nothing more. Stop romantising it. Most JWs rarely interact with the watchtower. When it comes to JWism it is a relatively harmless parochial evangelical religion that is loosely united.

New JW Scam?? Here in Australia...

it's good to be back on here.... ok, is anyone aware of this particular scam that seems to be big here in adelaide, south australia.

i've heard a couple of times were jw's have befriended old people (particularly one's that live by themselves) and get them to a) join up or b) become good friends with them.

after being friends for a while the jw's 'suggest', 'coax' etc, to the old timer to put them down (the jw's) on their will.

What are you talking about? The watchtower is a piece of paper in brooklyn. These scams are made by people that decide to exploit the legal system. I have never heard of a DO or CO involved in on of these situations how can you point fingers at the watchtower. It is always a third party who is not always JW.

You are making it seem like the watchtower has a taskforce hunting down wealthy old JWs so they can insert a infiltraitor to encumber assets for donation.

Okay I can vouch for the fact that unartactive or over weight young sisters tend to have to leave to find a decent mate in our area. Most are driven out from lonely ness because all the beauties outshine them and tend to make up exclusive parties simply for sequestering young or well off brothers.

I know a friend of ours was pulling his hair out he looks really good and is in his late 50's with a good job. He keep complaining about women his daughters age trying to compete for his affection. It was funny when he said "I just got finnished raising one teenager girl, I dont wana raise another."

BTW what is with ravenous JW women. Has it always been this bad? Lately it has gotten blatant. I am wondering if I should take advantage of this now or take my time? There are litteraly no new men in the org. It has been the same old guys for 10 years in our area. Considering many were baptised as teenagers this means they are not in their 30's yet. How ever I see more and more young women pop up. And saddly the more homely of them appear very depressed.

I can justify the WTS because it predictably acts like a corporate enitity. JWs on the other hand is harder to defend because they act like parochial fiefdoms each with its own set of fudal lords. Just like the middle ages some lords were good some many were bad. So some JWs may live a sublime life of JWism others in a nightmarish terror.

According to protection services this is an exploitation of the elderly but it is hard for the judges to do anything because the government care is worse than the present situation and the attitude of if they aren't physically abusing the person it is not worth the courts time. Since most of these people are nice to the older person, and the older person sincerely defends the finacial abuser as having their blessing the courts really mess things up, and incur legal bills that further tax the situation.

It is amazing what you can do to a person legally. You almost have to have a old person sharp enought to assume they will go senile one day, and write documents up to prevent this type of thing from happening, and that the party helping them is legitimate lawyer or accountant and not someone to insert their hand in the pot too.

The WT is in no way involved. They don't care. It may flyon these boards that the WTS is breaking into peoples bank accounts and robbing them at gun point. In real life the WTS says it ~~can~~ can't [edit] get inolved in any way.

This is not an abuse of the watchtower system this is an abuse of the court system. I have jw friends where their non jw parent are getting taken by total strangers that happend to follow them home and started caring for them. Many older people latch on to familiar faces as they get senile. The people taking advantage of them know this. So while you are away at work or school they invite them selves into that persons life. Because they are adults legally you can't chase off their "friend" that so eagerly tends their needs. Eventually their name gets on a few pieces of paper and the court system says well we have to respect their wishes. You know the Cookoo bird uses simular strategies to breed.

Armaggedon comes - at a set day and hour or as a result of circumstances?

i have been thinking about this question for some time.

considering the society's past deceptions and false dates about armaggedon, i never gave the timing of this "day after tomorrow" event too much thought.. and then i got to thinking, well, maybe there isn't a set day or hour for the end of the world.

the few examples that jehovah gave a specific time for a city to be destroyed was nineveh (40 days) and jerusalem (the 70 weeks of years).

According to the watchtower current doctrine states Armageddon comes immediately after some cosmic phenomena in the sky. This cosmic event announces Jesus presence too all the human and demon kind to let them know this is the end. This event happens when all religion is extinct excluding JWism, and the devil and his minions are hunting down anointed like Jedi.

This is the strict interpretation. This also implies most of the human population has been destroyed by a holy war or successions of holy wars in which the secular powers (the beast) win out over the clerics (Babylon the great). So if this prediction is true Armageddon will be very predictable. When the polls start hitting on only two groups JWism and Non religious its about that time.
