  i am dating a man who is a jw and i am not.

  i attend a nondenominational church.

  i found out from a mutual friend of ours, two months after my boyfriend and i had met, that he was a jw.

  It may be technically okay to celebrate birthdays but you know as well as I do that it is so heavily discouraged, it might as well be outright forbidden.

  When was it technically okay for JWs to have sex when that is outright forbidden? He has crossed the line of being honorably confused.
  

  And in the second place, the most liberal and tolerant JW in the world still believes in Armageddon and that all non-JWs will be killed in it, hopefully next week. I mean to be a JW, you really have to believe that, right?

  Well considering that the watchtower keeps changing what it thinks armegoddon is that is problem. They have structure a false dicotomy, complex question, and "no true scottsman" falacy working hand and hand. It is so hard to explain in the nature you asked we need another thread. Maybe thats why the watchtower rewrote armageddon so that you can't ask a fair question about JW beliefs with out a long winded explaination. In general I can say no jws don't have to belief that for the sake of this thread. Unless the starter don't mind a little hijacking.

  Doesnt the 2004 july 8th awake compromise that?

  How come you did not paste all those young people ask articles on "intimacy" he grew up with but have no probelm ignoring? As a father will he not let his kids celebrate birthdays, but let them have some sex? For teenage JWs everywhere I know which one of those they'll gladly trade off. Hmm birthday cake or cherry pie? Decisions, decisions.

  the society has many doctrines and practices which are plainly wrong.

  nonetheless, little dogma is, from an organizational standpoint, in serious need of change -- except one.

  for the society to continue any form of credibility with it's followers it will have to change it's understanding of who can lead the organization, in other words, who can become members of the governing body.

  Truth their real job seems to be preoccupied by not dying of old age, putting together long winded talks for assemblies, and figuring out what doctrine can be compromised the fastest to get them out of legal trouble and giving that sudguestion to the board.

  hello all.. this is my first time posting on this forum, my name is nathan and i have been waching the forum for the last few days.. the reson i am here is i am looking for a bit of encouragement and to ask for your prayers to help me.. ok i first came into the truth when i was about 6 years old i got baptized and was in the truth untill i was about 18 when i disasotiated myself.. im now 29 and somthing has happend in my life in the last month that has made me stand up and take a good long look at my life now and when i was a witness.. i have made my desition to go back to the meetings and hope to be reinstated.

  i have just resently given up smoking (cold turkey) and am finding that to be hard after only one week.. tomorrow will be the first meeting i will atend on my long road to aceptance and i have to say i am very nervus about it.. anyway i wont take up anymore of your time i just wanted to ask if you could all remember me in your prayers and ask jehova to help me conquer my problems and then maybe i can have the life i used to have back

  Just go back and demand reinstatement. Forget all that working for it crap. If they dont want you in instantly then you dont need them at that hall. Keep door knocking hall to hall like a pariah until they let you in. You did not do anything wrong. Welcome back brother.

  Actually the bann seems to be doing or saying anything with your findings. You can read and look up what ever you want, but in general jws are not allowed to do or say anything until the people at the top says so. Except on the issues where they have said don't ask don't tell. Then what ever you do is between you and God.Unless there is a schism underway or some legal reason.

  I still defend JWs are not cultist. Just they have an old school belief structure that went out of style during the reformation and even the church has toned it down.

  I would not attack JWs at all they are a harmless parochial faith. I would attack him. How dare he not celebrate your birth day when he already has been "intimate". You can't get disfellowshiped officially from celebrating a birthday, but you sure as heck can being intimate. Why is his brain so maligned he would dare piss you off with such a callous assesment of morality Whip his butt and send him back to the kingdom hall. He is a jerk. THis has nothing to do with JWs its a character flaw.

  No offense.

  You know little about JWs. This guy is a flake. If he will tap your A* and not sit in on your birthday he is just exploiting you. He is not a good jw, and will probally be kicked out if you tell his elders. Dump him. He has no excuse and no integrity. You are going to be heart broken at the end of this. If you are going to marry a JW marry a good one. He is probally only dating you because since you are not a JW, and you wont ever have a streak of concience, and run to the jw elders. I mean would you turst a catholic girl that doesn't used protection yet does not mind having an abortion?

  The only reason he believes this nonsense about birthdays (btw jws can celebrate them if they wish) is because it is an easy battle to win. He probally wont even take blood fractions either even thought they are allowed. Many people that suck at being JWs are hyper legalistic on small things that are really not that important. While they do bigger things that are actuall in the bible. Didn't someone famous say something about that? (Mat 23:24)

  I would not want to live with a two faced person that does not know they are two faced. It is one thing if they were doing this secretly to preserve some family relation ship or something. But he actually believes this after his own religion softened its view. He is using you. Probally for sex, and the fact that you are not a jw so you can't use all kinds of jw theocratic warfare tactics on him.

  Actually they are pro psychiatry anytime it makes an opponent crazy. When an insane JW lashes out they can be discounted as a sick indiviual that does not represent JWs as a whole. Notice if psychiatry was a quack you could not say this. THe thing is is that I am facing is to JWs no JW is "crazy enought" to need medical help until after the fact.

  The thing is JW armegeddon is better than any hell doctrine. It only effects people alive at the end of the world which are relatively few (considering it happens after WWIII). Hell potentially encompasses every person in history that did not end up in heaven. Even the touchy feely hell "away from God" is more horrible than paradise or oblivion the jws give you.

  came to my door this morning.

  seems they want to clean up the books or somesuch.

  they said that they had some serious "accusations" against me, and would be having an elders meeting (...."uh..uh...it's a judicial meeting" ) this wednesday evening.

  Just tell them youll meet after the wedding. As far as family it is not a requiment they shun you just talk to them before thand that you spect someone wants to DF you. Most JW problems are made worse by acting like you did something wrong. IF you are open and quite self confident they really can't do anything to you.
