I went to one of those. In truth times have changed. At first the school was a halo of solace and a belessing to any jw child in the area (and even any child period from the inner city). No gangs, no grafitti, no bullies, no A* teachers or socialworkers, picking on you solely because of your religion. people commuted hours to have their kids there. It was physicaly a paradise with a knoll and woods which oddly was a simultaniously a boyscout camp. It was close to the new order as a jw could get. Ah the wonderful 80's. I remember hearing the challenger blew upon the radio as I came up to that gate. All the kids glued to the TV in the Study Hall watching that y shaped plume.
Then reality soaked in. The late 90's and new millenium. It became a jail for JW kids too bad for public school. Basically JW Juvy. SOme kids were just off of drugs, gangs, or sex. Polo shirts, members only jacket gave way to fubu, and sean jean, vans to air force ones, big hair and diced sweat suits to piercings and belly shirts. Devobecame cotraband eminem.
So "Pajama day" a ecentric and inocent tradition banned after to many um parts began to be exposed, soon to follow tacky day (think if jws gave the do dah parade... well not just the part with the synchornized marching guys in cheap grey suits doing book bag drills but the more creative fashion statments) after too many um well parts began to be exposed.
Also the green eyed monster started deleting pillars of the falculty. While the founders were college professors along with X-public school teachers that were grifted, and great but fed up with the corrupt inner city school system, gave way to fomer students of the school, handymen, indian cheif, highscool drop outs, or anyone sober enought between poping pill to kill 45 minutes by reading the textbook to you and asking empty questions with out explaining or teaching anything. OMG wait I seen that format before. No wait my mistake the other place had microphones. Oddly since a real profesor is still the boss they give out phony college credits something college being tongue clucked when I attended (). SO in the eyes of "the world" the school has gotten academically better.

Witness only schools
by freedom96 inwhen i was growing up, there was a "school" in the area, that catered only to witness children.
there was probably about 60 students, mostly elementary school, but there were a few that were from high school.
i had a friend that went for a while, and i got to visit a few times.. the teaching was barely enough, and consisted of two or three classrooms.

THe wts is not "going back". There is a schizm. You have wts legal/hlc that actually know law and medicine. They are liberal pro-life saving measures for different reasons.
HLC for the humanitarian end and legal for the obvious reason of having a blood hypocracy allowing (promoting) whole blood with out reprisal if they will be liable in wany way. THen you have the branches. THe branches are the theological core of JWism. Each is like a separate animal, they are all the same specise (jw) but they work largely indepentantly on how the rubber hits the road.
You could get disfellowshiped in some branches for taking some fractions up until june 15 watchtower. THey are still rocking from that blow NY gave them. The HLC and legal are eroding many of the branches stands I am pretty sure if they could get away with it they would allow this blood issue to be a totally conscience matter such as hunting or owning rifles, but they can't because they don't control the jw grunt man on the street, and neither does the wts. The branches do. -

Earthquake: Attention to all the people in California etc.

nobody knows why; but its a proven fact.. at dec. 22 this week (on wednesday) a very strong earthquake appered in the antarctic region (8,2 on richter scale).

They already predicted a 8-9 for here months ago. Because the earthquake will be so large people are not really doing anything about it.
We have several quakes in weird places where nobayd was or out in the ocean so i hope those were them or releaved the stress.
BTW most asian earthquakes look biger because of weak building and safety codes. I am willing to bet the antarica quake killed nobody. In a place like california it would mostly cause isolated damage from items owned by the vitim killing them. Very rarely does a whole building fall down here unless it is old. Usually the quake happens the damaged building suvives, but the city tears it down. -

RIght now I would say yes sorta. They are in the process of trying to reword everything it will probally take a few years of them doing this before most jws sound like the articles. Right now it is only the Assemblies and ocassional talks. Most JWs can't see the change. Even though they are giving the talks. The bethlites are already with it, but have a corporate insider mentality instead of a theological one, "well its writen like this because country X... and the brothers there are... and can't..."
Look at the child abuse issue. THey have changed every thing yet not even one apologie or press release saying they have a new system. Infact the press releases lie and say that they have made no changes. -

I think in general the old wts retoric has retired. You guys may not see it and thats fine. In general the wts is global. Americas good name of religious liese fair attitude is dead now since the WOT. In general you ar going to see less formal preaching work examples, so jws can preach without preaching, the wts is going to cave on every issue to the governments bring up, they are going to make a fuzzy mysterious line on who suvives "judgement", and if you notices the total lack of the word formal term armageddon (ill have to read the article to make sure), the concept of a destructive armaggedon will be quellched totaly in favor of a less 9/11 like rendidtion.
Infact they will probally promote a more judicial police action like version. WHere earth is occupied by forces of righteousness, and wicked criminals are judged for their acts of terror.
I mean I grew up in the 80's this article back then would border on near apostasy. If you used select quotes people would think you went crazy. -

They say they don't celebrate Xmas, but...???
by JH inevery year, on dec 25th, witnesses in our area gather at a book study group, and they have a dinner together.
although they say that they don't celebrate christmas, why do they gather on dec 25th like catholics do and share dinner together?
i'm sure that neighbors think that it's a christmas gathering.. i know that there isn't any christmas decorations there, or gifts being given, but i find it odd, that every year, some book study will organize a dinner on december 25th.

WHat is with JWs lately they seem to be celebrating every holiday, but in a muted bland version?
Every major holiday (including birthdays) seems to be celebrated in a traditional jw method. Go eat and drink to excess while not having fun, or go to an amusment park. THey celebrate holidays like most atheist do. I am suprise the wts has not said anything. They must be enjoysing xmas dinner at bethel too.
I also notice this. JW celebrate holidays like poor southerners do. Because they cant afford gifts and trimings they tend to throw big dinners larger than or more fattening most americans. JWs do the same. I am wondering if it is economics. Maybe JWs celebrate like this because they can't afford to buy X-mas gifts for everyone in the hall. Think of it. Imagine the economic horror if the wts endorse Xmas. To be considered a good JW you would have to bribe the entire elder body and probally your book study. THink of all the after xmas catfights elders wives would have. I am sorta glad we don't give gifts. -

The Global Flood

my father used to be an elder for many years and the flood was one of the things that made him walk away not just from the jw but also belief in the bible.
he was hung up on issues like the flood taking place about 3500 bc and how that fit in with the pyramids.. i don't know much about egyptian history or the ages of the big pyramids, but his reasoning was if the flood wiped out every human on earth except noah etc then at 3500 bc there were only 8 people on earth.

a permanent change of blood type? ( This is very close!). When does reality set in?
The HLC allows the bone marrow transplant because it is considered an organ (the fact they transplant it via a bloody IV bag must have went over their heads). The whole blood transfussions to keep you alive until (if) the marrow transplant takes root is an oddity. While the JWs would not allow it for adults willingly taking whole blood (in general) because you have to be a minor to get a bone marrow transplant it is okay.
I know that sounds weird, but it is the truth where I live. On minors the blood issue is only an issue if you are stable. Once you start to die magically you are allowed to have blood. Since you have to be dieing to get a marrow transplant then you will certainly die with out transfusion that fills the prequisite. Since an adult with sickle cell would never qaulify for the transplant (at least with the technology availible) The HLC have managed to burry the obvious double standard. -

Another Danger for JWs and the Internet
by frankiespeakin inone thing that carries a real serious threat to the wt is the fact that most jws in developed countries have email addresses.. you know how some send out general emails to all their freinds and when you get the email it has "all" the address on the top because the person sent that particular message to everyone all at once to save time.
think how dangereous that is to the wt, because when someone get to know the truth about the wt and becomes apostate they have all these email addresses that they can send information to to deprogram other jws.
this can really snowball in time.

WHat I don't get about the wts is the blatant double standards. It totally boogles the mind. THese are not normal double standards either. Where the us vs them prevail. THese are twisted and sinister.
Bethlites are wired to the teeth and check hotmail every few hours. Bethel had its own intranet. The wts has 3 websites. It is funny to be with them and have them ask "does anyone have internet?" Then some JW will step out and say "oh no! I never would get the internet you know what the society says". Then the bethelite goes "Oh, cuz I wanted to check my email real quick."
After a few pettitions to the wts they constantly say they do nottrack apostates nor their sites, and they only refer you to a KM about how to surf safely which has cookie cutter 11 o'clock news advice. Most of the article is how to avoid porn.
How can the theological nexus of JWdom embrace the internet yet JWs be "banned" from the internet at the same time? It is like the blood issue. How can you abstain from blood and eat unbled meat, and allow fractions? -

Poz the GB already responded in the june 2004 watchtower. They siad it is up to your wife and it is wrong for her to ask the elders, hlc, or the service desk to clearify the issue. Meaning that basically they don't give a S*. If she actually ask too many questions, or infringes on another persons conscience about the blood policy I fear she could be labeled an apostate. They really do not want JWs to talk about it anymore period. They want you to arrange what ever you want with your DR and shut up about it.
I was just part of a case and the HLC said he didn't want to get involved and to keep JWs out of it. I assume they have retreated to helping little old laides signing DPAs for their hip replacements, and collecting consultant checks (yes some how they are now being paid to be HLC). Makes you long for the good old days when HLC actually acted like "Jehovah's people".
