JW Brochure "Keep On The Watch!"

i just got hold of a copy of the jws' recent 32-page brochure keep on the watch!

i'm surprised at some aspects of it, and not at others.. i'm not surprised that it contains much of the same old clap-trap about "the urgency of the times" and "we're so close to the end now!

AF did you notice the lack of 1914? Also did you notice the lack of armageddon. I was reading the track and thinking "keep on the watch for what?" They never tell you what to look for! Think of it what event or sign was the pub telling you to look for or how (what action) to do to survive. Think of the tsunami. If you see the bay draining run to higher ground. This message was passed to a village of "Morgan's sea gypsies" by tribal elders for hunders of years, and all of them survived. Many normal fishermen ran out to pick up fish on the beach and died. This pub tells you nothing on how to survive the tribulation nor the signs to tell you when it is coming. It also does not state how to tell when armageddon starts or what exactly the JWs teach people to do when armageddon comes.

(Note since Jehovah protects nobody during the actual tribulation you can't use the argument that feild service or a study is what the wts says will protect you.)

(Also af you wana start a thread together on what does the wts teach to do during armageddon sofar it seems to be no information provided on how to actually survive. THe entire world population of JWs are just as in the dark as the world.)

Actually the kotw is a great idea by wts marketing. They knows only JWs really read their stuff so they made this to mostly jws. Look at the cover. You are named watchtower, the publication is "keeep on the watch" a nice rampart theme would be spot on. Yet we get a sleepy oddly man. This goes over the head of any "worldly" person. But to jws you know exactly what that cover page means. I have seen it duplicated vebatim of several watchtower covers last year. I wonder if they'll be indexed as "confused old caucasian male" or "the generation that passed away".

Also around the time of the release we were told to stop preaching about armageddon at the door, and to preach paradise only. I assume they wanted to boost sales. In all reality this publication is sadly wasted. It is filled with the wts latest campiagn of preaching to the choirs. Talk after talk of trying to convince JWs that already are baptized that the watchtower is a meaningful addition to their lives which over the years has become watchtower lite.

Who cares if the JWs are right?

this is by no means an original idea, but even if the jws have been right all along, i don't care.

if pleasing god means not knowing what to think or feel without checking with headquarters first, then i don't need him.

who would want to be caught up in an eternal nightmare where the entire population was a braindead mass of clean-cut yes men?

MSS is wrong doctrinally. 100% of all the dead will be ressurected according to the wts (excluding the grey area of those killed by God personally). So it does not really matter what you die as.

i think it may be what the comic industry calls a "one shot" and maybe an "else world" too.

when did "chistiandom" become basically lazy,inactive, unreachable, or undiscoverd jws.

BB you are right but that is illogical. Thats like saying the crust on the bread is garbage. Then asking is bread garbage? No just the crust.

WHat I got and I may be wrong if a bunch of excuses why christiandom is so "evil". Think about you take a jebberish term like "babylon the great" you say it has negative connotations and then associate a group with it. It reminds my of the term "high yellow". If anyone knows what "high yellow" means youls see the parallel of how abstract phrasses can be used to keep people from being objective.

BTW BB I didnt remember any thing in the ariticle that sudgest that chistiandom was good or a positive thing. But I was more concerened that the analogy was very odd. Saying that one way or another christiandom are bad israelites. Look at the analogy. WT cronies are Nazarites, r&f jws are good isrealites, and christiandom is bad or victim of circumstances isrealites that are to be taken captive by assyrians. Also note the punishment. The good isrealites were taken captive too along with the bad. So if the analogy plays out being a JW is no different than being in christiandom because the same fate awaits you. And BTW this follow the same doctrine of all dead friend or foe being ressurected, and the "beast" destorying christiandom and JWs.

THe article was about Amos and they made up a bunch of weird "modern day" applications. THe one hammered was that "christiandom" are JWs that due to their rulers stacking the deck (I assume like moscow or asia), or thier inheirent preoccupation with luxury are not paying attention to the "signs" or whatever. Another one was the edict not to encourage the bethelites, COs, or poineers to return to a "normal life" (they actually used the phrase "normal life") because theyare like the nazarites and crap.

THe thing I can't understand is how is the WTS magicaly lumping jws and christendom into the
same class with out any "new light". THey are basically saying the only difference is that christendom is lazier and more decadent.

Now in the general JW continuity this is a mile stone nobody noticed. I am wondering what am I missing. Any help?

Jehovah's protection during natural disasters - Need article

when i saw the e-mail about the brothers in sri lanka who were safe at the kingdom hall because they were on the east side of the island, and the two brothers who were out in service and jehovah protected them because they weren't at the beach, i couldn't help thinking about some articles i read several years ago.. one was about a severe tornado in elkhart, indiana, and the watchtower stated that the brothers who attended the meeting that day were spared.

however, some who stayed home were killed by the tornado.

i'm inclined to think that it was the "palm sunday" tornado that struck indiana and michigan back in april 1964. i can't find any information that goes back that far.

Yeah actuallythis is a prime example of what the wts does. THey print "advertising" that is actually conflicting to their own doctrine. THe watchtower doctrine is that Jehovah does not protect JWs physically. Yet their advertising is overwhelming about random cases of people being saved by JW activities. Same thing with the blood issue, or their New yet denied child abuse policy.

THe WTS regardless of their constant "some family was saved by going to a meeting" propaganda has started inumerable times (espeacially post 9/11) that Jehovah offers no type of physical protection from anything. They invented this new "spiritual" protection that is suppossed to be thoertically better. THe thing is wtf dose a 100 foot wave do to my spirit? I bet all those south asian and pacific island JWs said "I am so glad I am spiritualy protected from this oncomming water".

On futher reading the only thing this "spiritual" protection seems to be is the "paradise" and geeky lifes style of temporance and absinance. So unless there is a disater that kills you by VD, lung cancer, and cerosis of the liver Jehovah protects every human on earth equally.

I was thining the "paradise" is just purgatory with palm trees. THe JWs just turned the realm of souls not good enought for heaven and not bad enought for hell into a corona beer commercial. So the paradise would actually be cool. Think of it there in all history has been like maybe 10 million jws. Compared to the billions of people that died before armageddon (in our future btw).

So basically the paradise would be exactly like now except sans devil . Just like one of the posters said. So if you think it out to the place the wts does not want you to go it realy doesnt matter if you are a jw if the JWs are right. So really them being right is better for the world than them being wrong. If you don't count the constant we told you so ribbings.

The thing is I really believe that if there is a God it is exactly like Jehovah and mostly malevolent. So the concept of them being right just gratifies my own assumptions of the world. I could perfectly see a god growing immortal masses of people in a slave labor camp and routinely releasing a devil upon them to keep the survivors loyal. Think of it if nobody dies yet can still reproduce it would make sense to purge the people you are not that hot for.

Also billions of people have already died. Nobody thinks that is unusually cruel because they lived in the unbiquitous past. So who cares if billions die right now. It is just a number. I thought this tsunami was the worse disaster ever then I hear about a hundered years ago one killed about 1 million people. at a time the worlds population was about 2 billion. Today nobody cares about those dead people. But the several thousand that died last week are still front page news. When it comes to death its a pay me now or pay me later type thing.

great tribulation or no great tribulation that is my question

so, what's the deal?

are witnesses now expecting a tribulation to precede armageddon or are they expecting armageddon without a tribulation?.

because in the last couple of years some of the things i am hearing and reading, lead me to believe they are phasing out the concept of a tribulation.

As much as some hate to admitt it JWs are "true christians" when it comes to the armageddon dpt. Modern christianity has forsaken its mellinialist roots. Basically All christians are in theory suppossed to be acting as frantic and hair brained as us JWs because thats what the black (or green or burgandy) book says. Some place around ww2 or maybe korea main stream christianity decided the world was not going to end. Even thought they had finally invented the technology to actually end the world. If you glance the pages of most history books the great hordes, the black plague, spanish flu, and many events were considered the end of the world. For some reason it has become uncool to brandish armageddon around.

Does anyone over 25 know why in the west( and what years) did main stream christianity decide to abandon the tradition of armageddon in favor of more PC ways to meet "the spirit in the sky".
