Only someone who has walked the path of a JW can say what she said ... and only those who have likewise been there, and done that, can truly relate to what Gaila has said. She captures in a nutshell the real tragedy of Watchtower spiritual seduction which hides its real abuse of good people. - Jim W.

OPEN LETTER TO JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES
by Outaservice inyou may not remember, but i know you very well.
i met you a long time ago when you came to my house with your smiling faces, your neat clothes, and your soft voices, and a bible tucked neatly under your arm.
you told me beautiful stories of a "paradise earth," and a "righteous new system" which would be established shortly.

SNG,
Once again, excellent! What were the dating methods use for the Neanderthals. C-14 would not be suitable as it is limited to about 50,000 years at best. Was it K-Argon or another? I am curious because I have discussion going on another discussion board. Thanks again, Jim W.

This conspiracy theory nonsense is getting silly.
The Peoples Republic of China is starting to place considerable demand on fossil fuel, thus driving up the price. That is, the demand is exceeding current production capabilities. This in turn will drive the oil rich countries to install more pumps to meet that demand. Then, prices will stabilize or fall.
IN the meantime, we need to remember that in Saudi Arabia alone there is enough oil in their "untapped" fields to supply the world for the next 900 years as current levels of increased demand. Then, when you add in Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Russia, UAE, etc. etc. there is an abundance of oil for a long time to come. The problem is not the supply of oil, but the logistics of getting it to market fast enough.
Also in the meantime, the USA is moving quickly to use wind power, solar power, co-gen (clean burning of trash), and the all-promising hydrogen car. The Japanese built a working model many years ago. So, the issue is to make the hydrogen car available to the market ... which means developing a regular and widely available hydrogen fuel supply.
In any event, whether more oil gets pumped, or we develop better technologies ... I am not going to hold my breath in fear of doom and gloom ... unless I were to become a nutcase JW once again.

The evidence AGAINST evolution
by AlmostAtheist inno, sorry, i won't be providing any.
this is a thread for those that have done some research and concluded that evolution is not how various species came to exist.. have you done the research?
do you believe that species exist as a result of god's direct creation?

The evidence for evolution is mounting. One only has to read the National Geographic site to see what is currently going on in the world of Paleontology:
The fabled "Hobbit" found: http://magma.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0504/feature1/multimedia.html
Buffalo-size Rodent: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2003/09/0922_030922_giantrodent.html
First Human: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2001/07/0712_ethiopianbones.html
Modern Humans 195,000 years old: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/02/0216_050216_omo.html
New Human Face: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2001/03/0320_leakeyfind.html
New Origins Debate: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2001/01/0111origins.html
There are now hundreds of millions of fossils in the known record. The evidence is mounting. Considering how hard it is for fossils to form, and the likelihood that fossils will not form, the volume of evidence is staggering.
The question is not whether evolution took place, but the exact mechanisms, and whether and how God might have directed or influenced this process along.
The problem with fundamentalists is that they cannot allow for the possibility that God used evolution as a tool to build various species and sub-designs. Then at some point, he selected a species that he could work with on a spiritual level: humans. Instead, fundys have an all-or-nothing approach to creation-evolution. To them, evolution means no God, period.
If one takes a calm, open-minded rational approach, then other possibilities emerge that make sense without threatening cherished beliefs.

Hi Mamacat,
Good find from the 72 Awake! If you have not already read it, the book Gentile Times Reconsidered by Carl Olaf Jonnson completely rips the Society's notions apart, and proves 586 bc, including the 70 year issue. - Jim W.

While its a very personal decision for each person, I do wish that I had not written my disassociation letter. [It was not a diret disassociation letter, but the elders used it that way.] If you feel that you can survive without making a statement orally or in writing, then simply ignore these clowns and move on with your life. Why give them anything in writing? By doing so, we play the game according to the Society rules. If you do write your letter, however, I recommend considering the following:
1. If you have no specific legal complaints, keep your letter very brief, to the point, and keep a copy. The elders will keep the original and give a copy to the Society. The Society saves these things forever, even after your death. I had my own letter come back to visit me during a deposition twelve years later. The Society had everything I had written.
2. If you have a legal complaint, talk to a lawyer first. A good example of a serious legal concern may be the child molestation issue. Let your attorney give you advice and even write the letter on your behalf. This may prove very important to you in the event of future legal challenges against the Society.
3. If your issue is not legal, but simply doctrinal or moral, and all you really want to do is to get a message or statement through to the elders, then tell one of them personally. Have a face-to-face meeting with your favorite elder, with no witnesses or only witnesses on your side (or a secret tape recording). Do not put anything in writing. This way, you and/or those who witness your statements can note what you said, but the elder only has your words, and nothing in writing.
If you proceed to send a lengthy disassociation letter filled with your concerns over doctrine and moral issues, it will fall on deaf ears. The elders will get about a quarter way into your letter, stop reading it, and file it away. Your message will not be heard, and you time will be wasted. I have been there and done that ... and, that is how I also acted when I was an elder and congregation secretary.
Whatever you decide, let us know how it goes. - Jim W.

Ted Jaracz and the Pope
by onacruse ini had an odd feeling today, as i waited for news that pope john paul ii was on the verge of losing his physical existence.. never having been a catholic, why should i care about this one man's existence?
and especially, insofar as he has served as a representative of one of the world's most heinous religions?.
and suddenly a contrast came to my heart: if it was ted jaracz who was dying, i wouldn't give a flying fleep.

HI Craig,
Pope John Paul II made meaningful contributions to this world, such as helping to free Poland from Communism and ultimately influenced the moral and political downfall of worldwide Communism. He formally apologized to the Jews for the wrong acts (or failure to act) of the Catholic Church throughout history and especially during Hitler's reign.
Ted Jaracz ... well, it is rumored that he carrys around a file of certain ex-JWs he calls apostates ... Yep, the human race really benefits from what Teddy does.

The New OM Book? Don't Waste Your Time.
by metatron ini zipped thru the new organization book and can tell you that it's a waste of trees.. i think that the updated section on df'ing is mostly just a legalistic response to distance.
themselves from any potential defamation charges, by default.. it downplays the blood issue and 'worldly' holidays but almost none of that matters.. why?
because in the end, the sservice dept calls the shots.

Good post Metatron,
The Society manages to give the JWs the feeling that something special is on the way, yet it always ends up feeling like they promised much more than they delivered. They are talented at dangling the carrot just in front of the JWs while keeping a big stick right behind them. - Jim W.
