i always thought that was what the society teaches.
in fact, haven't there been discussions about how we know the end has to be near because the number of the anointed remnant is decreasing, but there still have to be a few on the earth when armageddon comes to help get the educational work organized in the new world?.
well, i ran across this article today from the 9-1-89 wt pages 20 and 21, paragraphs 12 and 13. i was attending back then.
I remember that 1989 Watchtower article. I felt at the time that they were hedging their bets.
Ezekiel, all they need is a bit of "new light". After all, the scripture doesn't actually say that the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" are of the anointed.

has anybody ever read mark twain's "letters from the earth"?
i've just picked up an old paperback copy.
so far it's very funny.
Huxley, I've never read "the Mysterious Stranger", that'll be another book for me to look for.
Valis, that was funny. I'm sure some of my conversations sound equally absurd. At least, judging by my husband's face at the end of them.

well, they came magazine selling door-knocking ingathering and judgeing witnessing today.
but first, a quick background.... my wife and i have a investment property 90 minutes away from our home (a mistake btw; always invest closer to your home!
) and we've been there (here) full time for the past several days doing some renovations.
Good job Quotes. One of the most disconcerting calls I ever made as a Dub, was when the householder disagreed that times were getting worse. When she said that things were actually getting better, I didn't know what to say.

Yes, it now seems merely humorous. I'm only on the letters to the earth at the moment, but I can imagine that some of it will be dated.
I'll have to try and locate a copy of Carl Sagan's book. I haven't read that one yet.

i must say, i never thought that i would see the day when i would find a site about disillusioned (mostly) jehovah's witnesses, but low and behold...one truly exists.
first let me start off by saying thank you to the creators of this site, and i'll have you know that i've been lurking for several days now and i am just finding the time to finally log on.
i've been a member of the borg for over 20 years now, been baptised for about 14 of those years and now i find myself in the most unusual of places.
Welcome Pele. Yes, you have to watch that monkey! She nearly hijacked my first post.

Hi Running Man,
I like Mark Twain's humour too. I had never heard of these stories before I found this book. I look forward to finishing the book. It contains "Papers of the Adam Family", "The Damned Human Race" and other interesting titles.
By the way, we're enjoying your "Atheist" series very much.

Has anybody ever read Mark Twain's "Letters From The Earth"? I've just picked up an old paperback copy. So far it's very funny. It's a very irreverent account of creation, from Satan's viewpoint.
