my story
by fordulant inhi, i found this discussion forum and felt a need to tell my story, and prehaps talk to people who have an understanding of what it feels like and means to be brought up a jehovahs witness.
i was practically born into a jehovahs witness family, there was my mother, my sister and myself, my father (a non-believer) left when i was 3. i can remember my mum telling me that i would never get to school as armagedden would be here before then, then i can remember her saying that i would never get to high school as armagedden would be here.... it was a kind of running theme, mum always lived expecting the end of the world the next day.
mum re-married when i was 6 and her new husband quickly became an elder in the congregation, i also gained 2 step-sisters and a step-brother, who did not live with us but their mother who was not a jw.

At what age did you start driving a car?
by JH ini always was fascinated with cars and driving.
when i was a child going to school, often i sat in the front seat, just to look at the bus driver change gears, press on the clutch and just by looking at the way he did it helped me when i drove my first manual transmission car.. here is a picture of my first car.

My Dad started letting me drive his truck on back roads when I was 14. I got my license when I was 16.

Possible Severe JW Chronology issue - need help please - research thread
by donkey inhow do i make that claim?
i will explain the reasoning but i need some help and quotes from the insight book if some of you can help me since i currently have limited access to jw literature.. the jw's believe that a global flood occurred and all mankind except for noah, his 3 sons and their wives survived.
that leaves only 1 family of the same language and nationality to "start over".. the jw's believe that some time after the global flood nimrod and others (there must have been many) sought to build a large tower - the tower of babel.

That's just too much math for my brain New Year's Day morning.
I would think that a religious person would simply doubt science's dating of the pyramids. After all, if they still believe in a flood they're discounting all the scientific evidence saying that it's physically impossible.
But, you never know what will cut through the fog. After all, most of us here once accepted the flood story.

Hello. We dusted off the "Insight" books and it says there that the flood occurred in 2370 B.C.E.
As far as the tower of Babel, they say that the timing can be estimated by Peleg who lived during that time. He lived from 2269 to 2030. It doesn't say how many languages. Neither does the "Aid" book.

Guilt, Conscience and Catchphrases

i'm a newbie with a messed up head (thanks to all those wasted years).. my biggest problems are with guilt - i think its due to being raised as a jw.
i feel guilty for almost everything - even when i know i haven't done anything wrong!

We got rid of those catch-phrases by either rewording them or reapplying them. We turned them into a joke rather than a serious matter. For instance: "Bad association spoils useful habits" we began applying to the JWs instead of the nonJWs. It broke up the programmed responses.
