Yes, there were two contradictory articles on "the Princes in all the earth" that were printed within a month or so of each other. Since both couldn't be true, we had to question ourselves on which one was true. As soon as we allowed ourselves to question what was written in a Watchtower then every thing was open to question. "Stopthink" was suspended.

Narkissos, I think you must be bringing up an uncomfortable point. Nobody seems to want to comment on it.

"Must We Always Tell The Truth?" WT Feb.1
by Cellist inif this has been brought up already, i apologize.
but, we just received the latest magazine with the title, "must we always tell the truth?".
i was curious to see how they handled this topic, with their "theocratic warfare" (aka lying) in mind.

under_believer, I agree. It's the double standard that irritates me.
Dave, Interestingly, they do quote "a dictionary". 'A dictionary defines a lie as "an assertion of something known or bleieved by the speaker to be untrue with intent to deceive."' No mention of which dictionary.
Actually the article makes very good points. It's the fact that they try to present themselves to the world (and themselves) as completely truthful people. They used to be proud of the fact that they ALWAYS told the truth. Now they're trying to give themselves permission to be human and lie when needed, but still hold on to the image of being more truthful than everyone else.

The first thing that caught my eye (pg. 6) was the bold print; "Every lie is an untruth, but not every untruth is a lie". Following that it says; "Moreover, we need to consider whether the person asking for information is entitled to a comprehensive answer." Then they go into all sorts of examples to show where it's alright to lie. (Such lovers of truth)
So, thanks to the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" I now know how to lie correctly with a "clean conscience". Silly me, here I was thinking that all lying was wrong! LOL

Welcome to the board, TJ.
The emotional abuse that's been handed out over the years is truly sickening.

Australian Bethel Visit - I have to get this off my chest
by wozadummy ini was baptized in adelaide south australia in 1983 and around this time my first wife and i , along with our small children decided to go to the bethel in sydney new south wales as part of our holiday one summer.
we camped along the way as we travelled the coast road from adelaide and had a really interesting time and when we got to sydney we decided to stay at a caravan camping ground right near bethel ,so we did not have to travell far the next day for our visit there.. when we pulled in to the park and went to register at the office the two people in charge seemed to be very strained and distant when we spoke to them .we setup our tent and unpacked to settle in for dinner and on the way to the shower block i spoke to someone there for a few minutes and remarked that the people who ran this park did'nt seem too freindly.
he then pointed out why, that day a man had killed one of his family and everyone felt nervous and upset because of this .. of course i jumped into witness mode as i was full of "the spirit" not being long baptised ,but just got a blank stare and i knew i should not persue this any more - i feel so stupid now but i'm sure some here can relate to this blind faith enthusiasm as a chance to witness to the great god of the printing presses and think we can help heal all the troubles of the world!.

It is comforting to know that you're not the only one, isn't it? I don't know how many times in my life I've felt that there must be something wrong with myself, and then find out later that the problem wasn't me.

Something is in the basement...
by frozen one inthis morning i was doing my typical sunday morning routine, which consists of pretty much nothing, and went to the kitchen for a coffee.
i noticed that one of my cats was sitting next to the basement door which was an odd place for the cat to be sitting but i didn't give it a second thought.
a bit later i went to refill my coffee cup and the cat was in the same place.

Yes, as long as there's any hole at all the bird probably came down the chimney. I'm glad you were able to get the bird out without too much trouble.
