Kitten Whiskers - That's too bad your little bowl broke. We love our china and use it every chance we get. It helps us make just about any occasion 'special'. The pattern is "Dimity Rose", it's been discontinued for about 6 years. Of course, the silver helps make the occasion too. We use our linen every day.
Purps - I agree, it's easy to slide into the "eating out of a paper bag" syndrome. Especially after a hard day at work.
Thanks for the link, Junction Guy. I've never heard of the Kentucky applefest before. Of course, it is a long ways away. We've been to the "Corn and Apple fest" in Morden, Manitoba. But it doesn't sound like it would have quite the same line-up of food.
Thanks for sharing in our little mini-celebration, everyone!

?? Awake pictures
by RebelWife inin the pictures of lala land (paradise earth), why are all the people the same height?
where are the tall people?
did they get zapped because they had an elevated opinion of themselves?

LOL Worldly Andre!
Everyone isn't the same height in all their pictures, quite frequently they portray a child who is a giant. It's called poorly trained artists who don't have a handle on perspective or reality. The pictures were always so poorly constructed that I used to groan when they'd tell us from the platform to look at them as a learning aid.
On a bit of a side note, I remember one C.O. pointing to a panda bear in one of the "paradise" pictures and saying "see, in the New System they will eat vegetation". I thought to myself, "idiot! The pictures shows it eating bamboo which is exactly what they eat right now." I would have loved to point that out to him after the meeting, but we were starting to slow down and I didn't want to draw any adverse attention to ourselves.

Delilah - They are a bit more work than the larger apples. Not as much as you would think though because the skin is thin they don't have to be peeled. The peelings cook up as soft as the rest of the apple. Cellist

BFD - Our fruit trees are specially bred to ripen in a hurry, before the blizzards hit.

Changeling - Yes, spring blossoms are wonderful. That's another thing I love our apple trees for. The spectacular blossoms in the spring. Fall is nice too ... but ..... we have very, very long cold winters. So I tend to feel trepidation when I look at and smell the wonders of fall. lol

LDB - I used a frozen crust. The only brand I'll buy is "Tenderflake". When I make crusts I use Tenderflake lard. I don't don't know if you have that brand in the U.S. The crusts are always tender and flaky, just like the name says. If you like lemon and lime best, you would definitely like this pie. It has the sweet/tart kind of flavour and this apple cooks down nicely so that there aren't 'chunks' to be chewed on.

This is something we look forward to every year, when the apples are ready. We have quite a few apple and crabapple trees. This is off our newest crabapple tree. It's always a curiousity to see what the different varieties will taste like.
Is there any particular fruit or vegetable that you look forward to every year? (Or flower)
Wishing you were here to share this with us,

Well, not quite a sermon, but here are a couple of scriptures that I find useful. ;) I'll quote them from the NWT for nostalgia.
Prov.27:22 Even if you should pound the foolish one fine with a pestle in a mortar, in among cracked grain, his foolishness will not depart from him.
Prov.13:20 He that is walking with wise persons will become wise, but he that is having dealings with the stupid ones will fare badly.

Turkeys (pic)
by garybuss inwe have been watching this turkey all summer.
she started out with 6 little chicks and now they are half grown and there are 5. we've been putting sunflower seeds on the patio for photo bait but it's hard to get the picture without scaring them away.
this is the closest one yet.

Thanks for sharing your turkey family with us. I wish wild turkeys were capable of surviving here. We always enjoyed hearing and seeing them when we visited friends in Minneapolis.
