  Discipline or Child Abuse?

  i remember spanking my son when we used to attend meetings and conventions because he cried and just wouln't sit still.

  i was told that he had to be disciplined so he would learn to behave and learn what was being said from the platform.

  now that i look back i realize that that was child abuse and i feel so horrible about it.do you feel guilty for spanking your kids during meetings and conventions?

  GREAT site....

  But several of the fellows listed in my neighborhood had address listings different from where they showed up on the map; some not even the same town.

  Wonder what that's about..

  Screw up on the site? They've moved since then? (but then why wouldn't the new address show on the sex offender registry?)

  Parent sleeping with teenagers

  an ex brother and i were talking recently and he recounted a bizarre story.

  he too left the witneys some years ago, got a divorce, and the two children (both boys) decided to stay with his wife since she was still a jw.. one of his boys (never baptized a jw) confided in him not long ago about the sleeping arrangements after he left.

  she told the boys that she was feeling depressed and lonely because of the divorce and turmoil that their apostate father had caused her and asked them (ages 15 and 16) to each alternate and sleep with her every other night.. it took lots of courage for this son to talk to his father about it since he wanted it off his chest.

  Confession-

  I agree with your long post, except for stats re male v. female offenders.

  In my experience in civil and criminal law related to sexual abuse, sexual predators are far more likely to be male than female.... The stats aren't even remotely close.

  This concurs with the experience of the experts who testify in the cases we litigate.

  Not to say a female will not abuse, but far less likely...

  Upon cool reflection:

  The deciding factor is, i believe, whether the discipline is undertaken in LOVE, and that love is obvious to the child.

  I KNEW my parents loved me, unequivocally.

  I agree with All Along...

  I was NOT raised JW.

  My parents spanked, but never in anger. Past age 6 (or so), we were never spanked, cuz it wasn't necessary; we understood there would be ramification for poor behavior.

  I was NEVER afraid of my parents. Respect and love them tremendously today...

  If i do HALF so well, I will have arrived as a parent.

  I know too many parents of my generation, especially working moms, who feel too guilty to spank, cuz they spend so little time with their children. I am a working mom, so i understand the temptation...

  As a result, their children are little terrorists who DON'T believe their parents REALLY mean anything they say, believe the world revolves around 'junior', and throw tantrems to get their way.

  It's no favor to fail to discipline a child.

  That said, some seem soft enough by nature that physical discipline is un-necessary.

  Others not...

  my google wasn't much help.. does the society yet recognize dna, a rape kit, etc., as evidence that could supplant a "second witness" which they have always insisted on?.

  At present, there is not a single state in the US which would list a college 'streaker' as a sexual offender.

  Also, most states require a significant age difference between sexual partners before the tag "sexual offender" is placed on the older participant.
