i have never heard of this before, but i think it is worth knowing.. i have come across a rather strange story.
yes it is legitimate and some details are left out to protect this persons identity.. this lady is having problems in her feet and hands.
the doctors find that gangrene is setting in.. it is decided that the legs up to the knees must be removed to stop the spread of septic infection.. the fingers are also to be removed because the infections are starting in the extremities.. it is discovered that a tampon has been left in the vagina for a long time.
I frankly can't IMAGINE doing so....
I mean, YUCK.
i am almost finished with this book and let me tell you its very scary.
maybe i should not have read it because there isn't much i can do about it.. http://www.socioweb.com/sociology-books/book/1591023491/
edited to say: are there any concerned americans?
i say we give em Lubbock....

ENJOY your lunch... :)
what argument is put forth that women must only wear dresses or skirts to the meetings or in service and are not permitted to wear slacks?
where does it say it's wrong for sisters to wear pants, and how are they convincing women in 2005 to buy into this?
i remember many bitterly cold chicago mornings with frozen legs running to doors and back to the warm car as quickly as possible, wearing a skirt which was ridiculous and inappropriate to the weather conditions.
you are right, Froggie; it's ALL cultural...
The conservative black suit i am wearing TODAY (cuz i went to the courthouse) woulda gotten me thrown in the pokey for indecency or prostitution a generation or two ago.
I have a letter from my great-grandma wherein she discusses a Boston lady who was vilified and FINED for 'purposefully' showing her ankles and ONE KNEE (horrors) while exiting a carriage.
Fine Christian ladies in most parts of China (where my sister lives) think diapers and undergarments on young children are barbaric.
i studied with the jw's on and off for a couple of years and i could never get my head around the belief that 44,000 ( special ones) would be going to heaven and how they themselves worked out that they would be one of them?
i remember at easter one year i was invited to a 'special' meeting, i think they called it "the memorial" or something like that.
anyway, they passed around a goblet of what looked like wine and a plate of broken crackers and everyone just passed it around the whole room, from one person to the next.
i find it sad and symbolic that the symbols of Christ's sacrifice are passed, but not taken..
Watchtower is offering the 'obstructed view seats'.....when first row is freely available.
filthy, demented pigs.... wed 26 oct 2005. .

thanks Meta, for being willing to go to the effort to reply...
you've probably heard sentences that stuck with you.
quotes, one-liners.
you hear them and they make so much sense or touch you so personally at the time that they become part of you.
..and the reason i like it is it hits to the core of the issue; anyone who says a HUMAN org has ALL the asnwers, and isn't subject to (subjective) human error or open to POSSIBILITY of error... is LOONEY.
Many years ago a gal asked me to 'study the Bible' with her. I agreed to do so with her group if she would do so with me after her study was complete.
She had several 'elders' come to my home, and we walked thru an incredibly childish book she/they called "Bible study" (aka "Live Forever...")
After SIX WEEKS of this, at a snail-like pace, we completed the book. (WHEW!)
I asked her to 'ante up' and meet me to actually read and discuss the Bible (imagine that!).
She was a bright girl. She looked me in the face and said she was unable to abide by our agreement, because her elders had informed her that to do so would be to expose herself to 'apostate literature'; i.e. the BIBLE!
When i asked her WHEN she had this discussion with the elders, she said at the beginning of our study. So why didn't she tell me? Because the lie was acceptable, acc to her elders, as long as it got me to the Live Forever study...
Talk about turning off your brain!

I like M.J.'s answer....
