What about people who think there is no God, there is no after life, have any of these people had the same experience of seeing the bright light?

My thoughts on this is that there are two kinds of OBEs. First, there are the ones that are solely brought on by certain parts of the brain being stimulated (or starved of oxygen). Biologists have been able to predictably produce the same results of euphoria and a feeling of being out of one's body. But then there are the ones where we do actually project our soul onto another plane of existence, often referred to as the "astral". This is the only explanation for some of the experiences I have studied.

Again, just a thought :)

Lyin, sounds like a plan. I have researched a lot on these subjects, but not really wrote too much apart from answering people's questions. My main interest is in where the psychophysiology ends and the parapsychology begins... that is to say: at what point does our brain hand over control to our soul? I am still searching and studying and reading, and know I will probably never find the answers in this life, but there is a whole universe waiting out there to be explored. Who knows...

Well, there are many steps. It would be very hard for me to describe in any kind of useful detail on here without writing a whole essay.

However, take a look on my site www.your-reality.com and under reviews there is a book about lucid dreaming by the infamous Dr. Steven LaBerge, who has been researching the phenomenon for many years. It takes you through all the psychology, the training, and the uses for lucid dreaming. As you progress in lucid dreaming training, you should have less and less nightmares. I believe there is also a link on there to buy it from Amazon if I did my job properly.

Lyin, great to hear you are a lucid dreamer (or oneironaut as we are professionally called.. lol). As far as your OBEs go, I am a believer. My best friend used to be able to project himself into other people, so he could see through their eyes. He is now learning more about astral projection.

I have personally had an OBE once during an NDE (near death exp.). I was young and stuck a knife into a plug socket. 220V went coursing through me and blew me halfway across the kitchen. I remember looking down on my body, and my parents were by my side. Then the medics came and worked on me, and suddenly I was back in my body. I had supressed this memory for many years, as it did not fit in with the WTS teachings. When I finally left the Troof, I decided to research it all. I am now a believer in esoteric matters.

I used to suffer a lot from falling dreams. They scared me so bad (even in my late teens) where I would wake up and not want to go back to sleep, just in case. I also had frequent dreams about people around me being murdered, and me being shot at. I have overcome all of these with a little training.

It is mostly a combination of awareness and willpower exercises. It helps you to recognize dreams for what they are, and allows you to change them, either consciously or unconsciously. With this training, many people find that their frequency of nightmares is reduced. I am currently taking it to the next level, which is consciously changing my dreams, called lucid dreaming. It essentially is when you wake up in your dream, and take control of it... do what you want just as in waking life, but without the limitations. It is fun, as I have flown in my lucid dreams before, and it feels amazing. It can be used for everything from examining your subconscious to having sex with whoever you like, and it feels perfectly real.

Yeah, it does induce some very vivid dreams. With a little "dream training" (which can be quite fun) I have managed to overcome my nightmares and no longer have any. Admittedly though, I did stop using melatonin a few years ago for the same reason you did. Now I am over my nightmares, it works like a charm.

Would you have left sooner?

if you were still in the jw religion and wanted out, and an opportunity was presented to you to leave everything behind and escape your jw life, would you have taken it?.

when i was 15, my brother had mentioned that i could come and live with him at age 16 if i wanted to, away from the jw religion, away from my parents.

i was seriously considering it, but it never happened.

Nos, it's all about the proverbial silver lining. Even the most depressing and heartbreaking situations can somehow make us into better people. If someone very close to us died, and we never told them that we love them... it is a very traumatic thing, BUT we will be more likely in the future to tell people that are close to us that we love them.

And all that sitting around in the KH? I have calculated I roughly spent 4320 hours sitting at the KH in my life, which is 180 days total. That is half a year of my life "wasted"! But you know what? I learned the ability to sit for an extended period of time... lol. It may be a small thing, but it is a silver lining nonetheless.

I have had my experiences in the Org with depression, in fact it has left me with a permanent feeling of self-worthlessness. Sometimes all we can do is say "what's done is done... at least I got something out of it". Otherwise that depression really takes over.
