i found these two references very interesting.....i reflected on the mentality of the witnesses in my old congregations in janesville, wisconsin....i realised they weren't a 'happy' people because they had the "truth", they were in truth happy because of being all medicated (prozac).

Backpacking and Travelling, New Friends and New Experiences

how many of you balmpots have ever had the travelling bug before?

how close have you come to just simply dumping everything, donning your backpack and making off for new horizons?

perhaps you have already caught the travelling bug and already seen many exciting new places, new, strange to you cultures and experienced the life on the road, on a minimal budget.. can you tell us where you would like to go, where you have been and any stories about your travels?

At this very moment my husband is on his adventure dream trip to Italy with his bicycle. Not me, but that's ok - we couldn't afford for both of us to go, but it's my gift to him for our 25th anniversary coming up soon AND in celebration of our new life. When we married, and before he converted, he was racing bikes, but then gave up the racing for the "truth". It was still his serious pasttime to be out on the bike - for which he was of course looked down upon as he should have been spending that time in theocratic pursuits right?
He's having the time of his life climbing in the Dolomite Mountains today and lookin' for Lance for a challenge! Meeting people all along the way, lugging a two ton bike case on planes, trains, buses, and taxis as he makes his way around the country. Enjoying immensely the cuisine and wine!
The "Dream Dashers" did not prevail and we look forward to many journeys together.

How about #26 -
did you EVER send a financial contribution DIRECTLY to the society - oh no, it says: Send MORE financial contributions directly to the society. And, that's after you've already reached goal #25 to: Increase financial contributions to the KH.
Am I allowed to pay my rent first?

Are you kidding?? Not ME - but I did find it on a current JW's website for usage by anyone that would like to print it up! My sister did have one similar to this for her son's "goals" tho I remember. Trying to do it all, has driven them both OUT too.
I get physically ill just reading it.

Theocratic Goals to Pursue
1. Be more regular in meeting attendance.
2. Come to meetings earlier so as not to miss song and prayer.
3. Comment at more meetings.
4. Improve preparation for congregation meeting by studying more..
5. Enroll in the Theocratic School.
6. Prepare school assignments as soon as they are received.
7. Become a regular publisher by going in service each month.
8. Improve field service (become a 4 to 6 hr. publisher)
9. Improve field service (become a 6 to 8 hr. publisher)
10. Improve field service (become a 8 to 10 hr. publisher)
11. Improve field service (become a ____ hr. publisher)
12. Start doing more house to house field service.
13. Become more effective in using the Bible out in field service.
14. Start making return visits.
15. Make more return visits.
16. Start a Bible study.
17. Conduct my family Bible study regularly.
18. Auxiliary pioneer.
19. Strive to become a regular pioneer.

Bad Stuff you did in High School

for those of you who weren't good jws, or weren't raised in the troof, what kind of bad things did you do in high school?.

one thing that i did sticks out in my mind above all the crap i did.

there was this one kid who was marked as the loser.

While my one and only "worldly" friend and I were sneaking a bottle of Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill wine into school, I dropped it in the parking lot - we were scared sh-tless and took off running to her car and skipped the whole day. What a waste!
