Yoga
by CeriseRose inokay i got back from the doctor yesterday, and in the past 11 months, without doing anything in particular for diet and exercise, i've lost 12 pounds.
12 pounds!
i've been overweight my whole life and being able to "live" while losing is huge.. i joined curves and will be doing that 3-4 times per week.

Haven't done the yoga thing myself yet, plan to - A word on Curves - joining there did motivate me to exercise regularly and now I've been walking for four years and feeling great.
My experience and I don't want to discourage you...... But a Caution: may have just been me,- since I'd never really done much with the upper body, arms, strength training etc. - I developed quite a serious problem with my elbow (tendinitis, tennis elbow) from using their equipment on the circuit, which all consisted of machines using your arms - too much, too soon and too fast apparently . They keep you moving very quickly from one area to the next, and each person cannot really work at their own level/pace. I ended up having to get out of my membership and took up walking and regular gym membership instead. If you can just take it a little slower and work up to it all, hopefully it'll work for you.

Thank you for the info - I'd heard the show advertised on the local radio station today with not much detail - looking forward to "meeting" Steven Hassan discussing this cult. We found his books very helpful in making our escape from the JW cult.

I looked up the website of the venue where the convention is generally held and the schedule lists the date that JW's will be there. Worked for me anyway.

Did you know of any JWs fighting in the Kingdom Hall or arguing in the KH?
by booker-t inthis might sound funny but i have heard many stories of jw's fighting in the kh bathroom or arguing.
i remember an elder's wife who was having alot of medical problems cursed out another sister in the bathroom.
she called her everything but the kitchen sink i was told by another sister that was in the bathroom when this altercation took place.

I knew a young brother that was murdered in the parking lot as he sat in his truck before the Sunday meeting and it was another brother twice his age, that shot him.

The Best Response To Memorial Invites?

i live a ways away from my old congregation and i work with a couple of active witnesses who know i'm inactive.
so, i've been bombarded with phone calls and asked by my co-workers to go to the memorial.

Thank you so much for all the quotes from the literature of the 50's.
As a youngster, when we finally got our first t.v., my father, newly converted dub, would constantly threaten to "take the axe" to the t.v. when we kids would be watching the limited amount of shows we watched consisting of "Lassie", "The Donna Reed Show" and " Wild Kingdom". I always wondered where he had acquired such an adamant view of television back in those early days!
I often wonder who my parents would have truly been, without the WTS determining their personalities.

and i have been reading the posts on this site regularly pretty much since it started, and hourglass before it.

What is wrong with me?
Don't discount that emotional problems are a real possibility. The day my jw dad killed himself over his own "emotional problems" that he'd recently admitted having, an elder from his congregation told me that I have actually been emotionally abused for much of my life being raised in the "way of life" by a zealot parent. Anyone living jw life is emotionally abused. It can't be avoided in the cult.
My suggestion to you is to seek cognitive behavioral therapy - you examine your core beliefs and learn how you have been affected by them and how to move forward. Reading up on religious addiction and spiritual abuse may help you too.
