WTS Cashes In On Tsunami
by ezekiel3 inin an informal announcement at service meetings this week (corroborated by the question box in the january 2005 our kingdom ministry, pg 7) jws interested in contributing to the asian tsunami disaster should contribute directly to the "worldwide work" (the general fund).. the entire article referenced above: .
what is the best way to make contributions for the benefit of needy brothers in other lands?.
at times, we hear about brothers in another land who have come into material need because of persecution, disaster, or other difficult circumstances.

In increasing scale of unlikelihood:
1. Brother Prince will be made an elder.
2. The organization will set up charities worldwide.
3. The "ancient worthies" will be ressurrected.
3. The WT will publish a verse-by-verse commentary on the Letter to Romans.

ezekiel3 and others,
If any of you can get a scan of the AHCD, it would be great, since most people are just familiarized with the old cards.
There's a funny thing about it: many higher-ups, including bethelites, forget to take the "blood card" with them!

How does the society explain 5 more partakers at the Memorial?

Pole,
It seems like half of the Governing Body were born in the mid-thirties or later when the collecting of 144k had already been completed.
This is one of the greatest problems in the doctrine of the Watchtower movement. Teddy "the Boss", for example, was only ten when Heaven's Door was closed.
They never talk about this most embarassing issue. Stephen Lett is only 55!! How come?? I have never heard a dub talking about this silliness. Cognitive dissonance.

What is your experience as to buying Crisis of Conscience?
by Goldminer in.
i've read a few very interesting stories about people's experiences when they decided to purchase coc.i'd like to share mine and read yours also.. in 1999,not long after we purchased our first computer i started reading material about jw's.before long,i got really interested in the ray franz story because even up here in northern ontario,i had heard about the apostasy of 1980.in the fall of '99 my wife decide to take a college course(bucking the jw trend),and she would stay at her sister's place during the week.one day i called a christian book store to see if they could get me this book.i was very nervous, changed my name and i wouldn't give them my phone number.i told them i'd call back in a few weeks to make sure they had it before i went in to pick it up.. when the day came,i picked up my courage by two hands and took off for my 40 mile drive to get my book.the book store is located in a small shopping mall, which had me really nervous that another jw might see me going in or out of the store.i walked in the mall looking around, making sure there was nobody in sight that i knew.when i walked in the store,i had cash ready in my hands, walked up to the counter, gave my fake name and the book i was purchasing.now i just had to walk and make it to the car and i was home free.. i know buying a book isn't that hard,i do it all the time, but at that time the implicationsof having this book in my possesion was tremendous.. anyways,it's been 5 1/2 years and still nobody here knows.the book has really opened my eyes and mind to the realities of the wts.i would definitely recommend this book to everyone here who has yet to read it.it's worth the effort to acquire it and will take away your fear of the watchdollar.

I forgot to add: researcher, you can simply go to a bookstore and order it (you of course don't have to leave your phone # with them). Eventually we all need to take some small risk. CoC and ISoCF are not online, and I don't think they'll be in the near future. It's not that hard to hide a book, there are lots of good ideas in this thread. Or you can go to your some public library and read it there every once and while.
Happy New Year,

I got my CoC in a "secular", non-Christian, bookstore. I just eventually found it there and bought it. I had to take some precautions, because I could not be seen with the book. The bookstore was in a mall (where I always find people I know...), but I went there at worktime in the morning, where there weren't many people, and it was no problem. I took it to workplace and read it there.
I understand why people have to be cautious about purchasing the book. If you're caught, your entire life can change in a couple of days.

First, I stepped down from being P.O. A month later resigned as an elder altogether and in February, 1999 turned in a 14 page letter of disassociation.

ezekiel3,
I remember 2004 Memorial "pre-season" was a heavy dose of instruction about who are really anointed, partaking, essentially "DON'T PARTAKE, YOU ARE MESSING UP OUR NUMBERS."
Yeah! I think this reveals a little about their mind. At least some in the Writing Dep and GB believe their own lie, showing that they fit in the typical profile of cult leaders. Otherwise, why would they be preocuppied in lowering the numbers? Having a steady figure of about 8,000 only buys them time. If the numbers go down as dubs expect, they'll have to explain why the end is not coming.
The memorial talk was 30 minutes of "DON'T PARTAKE" (I am not joking.)
Their emphasis on "not partaking" in an occasion that was supposed to be solemn and devoted to special Christian fellowship shows where their heart really is. It's just for a show. They don't even try to disguise that Christ is only a minor figure for them.
At least the WTS isn't bluffing the numbers here, although it is obvious even to WTS headquarters the partaker count is bogus.
Yes, and GermanXJW pointed that out in the quote that spoke of "genuine annointed" and "truly annointed" ones.

Research on the validity of 1914
by Bluegrass Tom inhere are a few facts that i have recently discovered by doing some research.. the watchtower society uses the date of 539 b.c.e as the date that cyrus took over babylon.
they use the term "absolute date" to define this as an unquestionable point in time.
to do this they had to ignore 586 b.c.e which is the real date for the destruction of jerusalem.. therefore, if jerusalem never lay desolate for 70 years, when does this desolation and fulfillment of this prophecy take place?

I still have fun with scholar's posts. He has this great ability of coming up with the same extensive research with complete bibliography, managing in his mind the inconsistency of flattering the FDS for their unique chronology (he himself called it "Watchtower chronology") on one side, and unashamedly disobeying them by posting here on the other side.
The truth is that there is much conjecture about the biblical chronology of the Old Testament as shown by numerous dates given for events in biblical history
No one in the world except for the Watchtower supports the 607 as the date of Jerusalem's destruction. All scholarship is unanimous in supporting a date about 20 years earlier.
I have studied various positions and are familiar with the literature on the subject of the seventy years in particular.
I are afraid that scholar still can't be honest with himself.
The great merit of WT chronology is that it is simple, easily explained and has prophetic significance leading to 1914 as shown by the recent disaster in Asia.
Well, something new in the same old drivel. He is applying "current events" to "Bible prophecy" in his argumentation, keeping up to date with the FDS directions.
