I'm a little worried about my cleats, GLTireBiter, since they are SPD-SLs but I've ordered a pair of Shimano cleat covers so walking in them should be better and protect the cleats from wearing out too fast.

When I bought my road bike in 2011 I just swapped out my pedals and shoes from my hybrid, which were mtn bike shoes and a rather large medal pedal. After several seasons with them I'm wanting lighter, stiffer shoes and pedals, hence the upgrade. This should increase my riding efficiency and comfort, and so I'll be putting on more miles. Fortunately for me, drivers are very courteous in the rural area of Wisconsin where I do most of my riding. By no means am I speed demon on my bike, but even a few grams off my current setup will help add some speed and miles to my riding. My longest one day ride has been 125 miles, and I am convinced I can shatter that given the right conditions. Terry, until 4 years ago I was very happy riding like you, but once I got on a road bike a whole new biking experience unfolded for me. And yes, it is very easy getting wrapped up in buying all sorts of clothing and accessories. Somewhere down the line I'm looking to get a helmut mounted digital camera so I can relive some of my rides.

Anyone have experience with Specialized road shoes with the Boa stem? How about pedals - I'm getting Shimano 105 pedals. I'd enjoy any input you have - thanks.

Many of the responses on the site are verbatim quotes from Watchtower literature. It's as if they just cut and paste straight out of an article
sd-7, I noticed the same thing. Earlier today I happened to notice someone's response to a question about meditation that sounded so "scripted" that it reeked of WT drivel. So I looked at more of this person's posts. EACH ONE was obviously a cut and paste from WT sources, most times only tangentially related to the question being asked. There was not one post that read like a regular person would answer from their own experience and their own thinking.

The Self Delusion
by John_Mann inwe already are very familiar with the god delusion, but what to think about the property of being self aware is just another illusion?.
buddhism asserts that and many people does not know that the very materialism (physicalism) asserts that too.. how can an illusion be self aware to be an illusion in itself?
what would change in your life if you accept this?.

John_Mann, I am having a little trouble with understanding your opening post, and that may be because of an issue with semantics. The self (note the lower case s) that is an illusion is a mentally created "me" that people believe themselves to be. But when this idea of me is investigated the search for it comes up empty because that me cannot be found as an actual and real entity. The only thing that can be found of that me are ideas and beliefs one has about oneself. So in this sense there can be no self awareness because there is no self to be found.
Going one step further, what remains when all ideas of me stop completely, when no "story of me" runs through the mind? All stories ABOUT me come from memory; they are tied to past events or imagined futures stored in or created by the mind. In other words, stories are dependent upon a mentally created time, and those stories are constantly being replayed in the mind where the "me" is the starring character of the drama it finds itself in. But in the NOW, in this very moment, when no thoughts of past or ideas of the future are entertained, something remains present and undeniable. In this very moment of now, where life is actually lived because it's the only "time" that truly exists, there remains the sense of existence, of Be-ing, of Am-ness. That SENSE of existence has a liveliness to it that is alert, silent, still, peaceful, and CONSCIOUS. This is sometimes referred to as true nature, the real Self (note the uppercase S). To know oneself as THAT and to knowingly abide in/as That is called Self-realization. Another term for this is enlightenment. In other words, enlightenment is one's true state of being, and by its very nature it is Self aware - it is the ONLY thing that is aware.
However, this Self is not actually a "thing" that can be isolated and looked at as though it has some physical qualities to it. It is that to which all phenomena appears; it is the witnessing consciousness of everything that happens. This is what masters endeavor to point out to people. The "little me" that is created by the mind is not aware of anything, much less "self aware" because because it doesn't really exist; it's only an illusion created and sustained by mental activity, but it isn't aware. It is the Self alone that is aware. You are that Self, and to know oneself as that rather than the mind created me is to be enlightened. This is "liberation" from the dream of me and the awakening into reality as it actually is.

Want to know why people accept evolution ?
by snare&racket indo you have questions about or want to understand evolution?
it is a difficult concept to communicate and so if it is not explained well , it is understandable that we would dismiss it.. i sincerely want to talk with people who want to learn more or see what all the fuss is about.
we are all learning and increasing our knowledge all the time and it is good to go over facts with critical eye.. evolution we can discuss, looking at the foundational facts and evidence, one at a time for you to go and check, agree or disagree with and return.. no pressure to accept it, you can decide for yourself, also no mocking etc of what you have to say.. .
