Hi myelaine,
'This is the express job of the Holy Spirit.' This statement postulates the existence of something called 'the Holy Spirit.' Have you proven its existence or is this something taken on faith? What if you don't follow any faith, are you therefore deprived of knowing truth? Must 'truth' only be seen through the filter of a particularized belief? Isn't this at the heart of religious contention, that only certain groups/faith systems have access to truth?
When all that is untrue is seen, what is true remains - no dependence on any belief is necessary, nothing is required to reveal it outside of awareness itself. If you define 'Holy Spirit' as awareness then I would agree with you.

Truth is not something objective that can be quantified and examined by the intellect or believed in by the ego except as a concept. That which the concept of truth refers to is beyond the capacity of the thinking mind to grasp and explain. It can be seen but never communicated to an 'other' so that they see it too. Its realization can only be discovered by directing the search within the one who searches for truth. Discover who this 'person' is who would seek truth and truth will be revealed.

Even though I am a diehard Packers fan and loathe the Vikings, I feel they will be a better team without Moss, much to my dismay. Don't lose hope, even if you are a Vikings fan.

Tough day -- my mom died today
by cruzanheart inpoor thing, she's had alzheimer's for about 10 years and the last year she's been on hospice care because she's been so close to death.
the past few months she's been slowly filling up with water -- they gave her lasix (not sure of the spelling) to relieve the edema and it worked, sort of.
last weekend she actually looked a little better.

I am so sorry for your loss, Nina, and I understand the relief when this sort of passing takes place. My mother suffered from Alzheimers the last 5 years of her life. It was painful seeing her become something other than the person I knew. I was blessed to be with her as she took her last breath after her heart finally gave out. Knowing that she was no longer confused and afraid gave me deep relief despite the grief of her passing.

In life, how do you walk?
by Tigerman in.
on a day to day basis, does it really make any difference to you as how you perceive others and how they perceive you?
if so, do you think this thought process can be altered, in one way or another, for the greater good?

When there is no perception of oneself as being anything in particular there will naturally drop away the tendency to perceive 'others' in any particular way - instead, there will be the realization that there is no separation from what appears as 'other'. Then, how 'others' perceive you will have no bearing on how your life is lived. And that makes all the difference in the world in how life is experienced.
This is beyond any thought process. To remain in the thought process is to remain bound in one way or another to how 'others' are perceived, and how they perceive you. -

The Myth of Unconditional Love
by frankiespeakin in.
i here this a lot all the time.
i think it is one huge myth,,based on a self-biased view.

To rest in the 'beingness' that lies beneath what is believed to be any 'me' as a separate entity, is to rest in that which which accepts all unconditionally - that is love. This love can be nothing but unconditional, for it is the seeing that there is no separation with anything, that there is only oneness.

Jehovah or Yahweh?
by undercover inas i was growing up i remember that we, as jehovah's witnesses, took great pride in showing people god's name in their own bible.
we were the only religion(or so i was told anyway) that used god's name.
our bible, the new world translation, put god's name back where it belonged.

To me it is silly to assume that the god of all creation, the god that lies beneath everything, the omnipresent, omniscient ONE could even have a name. Insisting that it's this or that is to put a limitation on that which is unlimited. If god is confined to a dualistic universe then I could accept such arguments. But god must be beyond all limitation, including the limitations of dualism.
Look what such insistance has done - created division and separation, and all manner of factions aligning themselves with one view or another. I can't conceive of this as pleasing god in any way. Perhaps if people were to look for what's beneath all ideas of god then there could be some resolution to the question of god's name. -

What do our handles/nicknames collectively say about us?
by AlmostAtheist ini noticed a few prefixes/suffixes/concepts keep popping up in people's nicknames on this site.
i wish i had all the subscriber names in a spreadsheet to play with it some more, but i just did a real cursory glance around and saw some interesting bits.
notice this:prefix to handlenumber of occurrencesfree (like in "freedomfrog")35rebel 5lost 12happy 17hate 0love 14. in additon, there were 4 variations of the phrase "had enough".

Mine is just a variation of my last name - I got tired of being called 'popcorn' when I was a kid, which was another variation that immediately comes to people's mind when they hear my real last name. It got tiresome watching people believe they were being so clever.
That being said, all names are just another way to define ourselves. See what lies beneath any definition.
