I remember in the late 70s when I was in elementary school my JW aunt who has been a JW for over 45 years temporaily conducted our book study on Monday nites because our book study conductor Bro Simmons was in the hospital for about 3 weeks(he was also one of our elders). My aunt did a great job as many of the witnesses praised her after the book study was over. She had to wear a scarf on her head and if I remember she asked one of the teenage brothers who was not baptized to give the prayer.

Sisters and the Double Standard in the Hall
by Apognophos in"i do not permit a woman to teach, or to exercise authority over a man, but to be in silence.
" -- paul.
okay, so this means that a sister has to speak to a householder when on the platform, so she isn't addressing us herself and teaching us something.

If a scripture can be shown that Jehovah God "changes" his mind then are we to believe anything he says in the bible?
by booker-t ini have always been taught that jehovah god never changes his mind and he always carries out what he predicts.
then a friend of mine who is atheist showed me a scripture in the bible that caught me totally off guard.
it is in the book of jeremiah.

I have always been taught that Jehovah God never changes his mind and he always carries out what he predicts. Then a friend of mine who is atheist showed me a scripture in the bible that caught me totally off guard. It is in the book of Jeremiah. I don't know exactly the chapter and verse but it is when Jehovah says if he predicts destruction of a city or people and the people repent then he will relent from the destruction he promised. My friend asked me about Jonah and the people of Niveah and how god changed his mind because they repented. But Jonah told them "40" days Niveah will be destroyed. So what are we to believe if people repent then Jehovah will pospone Armaggeddon? I am not trying to sound "blaspemous" I am just abit confused.

I don't want to stereotype people but I live in the same apartment building with 5 young Mormon missionaries. I speak to them all the time but I get a "dry" hi from them everytime. I am a black man and all of them are white. I have read many stories of the racism in the Mormon church and I feel these Mormons think they are better than I. If this is a representation of a belief system in their church I don't know how any African American could vote for Mitt Romney. Can any poster familiar with Mormon doctrine help me on this. I want to be fair to Mormons and not prejudge them the way people prejudge blacks and hispanics and other ethnic minorities.

I totally agree with Mrs.Jones. No matter how much you want to believe your relatives and friends still JWs will not talk about you they will trust me. My relatives and friends think I have pitchforks and ouiji boards at my house. By their standards I must be sleeping around and having orgies. All I do is work full time and go to school full time for my Master's Degree. You are fighting a losing battle. JW's are so indoctrinated to think exjws are evil that this is the only way they can see you. My own brother and his family literally ran away from me at the supermarket and all I was doing was buying a dozen eggs. You would have thought I was buying a book on Satanism. I have learned to just live my life and not expect them to change. And the funny thing about my "holier than thou brother" is his own son was caught in bed with a hooker a few months ago in my devout JW's mother's home. They are hyprocrits plan and simple. They look down on everybody else but there own backyard is flithy. The best revenge on them is to live a good life and prove them wrong. Good luck and don't give JWs so much power over you. Live your life and have fun. It took me 20 years after I left to get in this frame of mind and I will never look back. Jehovah and Jesus are my judge not JWs.

Have you ever wondered if the bible has been totally "rewritten" and the real message Jesus taught was love.
by booker-t insometimes when i play the devil adovacate and play the pros and cons of the bible as it is i often wonder what if the bible really does support homosexuality, premarital sex, masturbation, and other things believers "cringe" at the thought of.
maybe jesus really only taught us to love people and not spend so much time debating religion.
i know some "evagelical christians" that have so much "hate" in their hearts against others that don't believe as they do it makes you wonder where is the christian love?

I just cannot believe Jesus would hate Jews, Catholics, Mormons, JWs and other religions that don't follow the fundermentalist interpretation of the bible. He would look at the person's heart and not so much how they interpret the scriptures. The bible is suppose to make us change our ways and try to live christlike. So much energy is used debating the bible. I hope that when Jehovah and Jesus do decide to end the world they will look at my heart and accept me as any parent would accept their child.

After I left the JW's I had a hard time with born-agains especially ex-jws born-again almost demanding that I believe in hellfire torment. I just could not swallow it and to please some of my "new" friends in the christian community I pretended to believe in it. Fast foward I realized I was giving my power to another group of people the same way I did as a JW. I have received my BA degree in psychology and it is amazing how as humans we always need to "please" people instead of ourselves. Now ex-jws born agains and some born agains tend to shy away from me because I now know my bible frontwards and backwards. I read for myself and not let "someone" else interpret the bible for me. I rely only on Jehovah and Jesus for insight. I now tend to stay away from overly religious people because their minds tend to be closed. I study for myself. But again Randy thank you for you honest answer on hell it was very comforting.

How many ex-jws poster here now believe in Hellfire, immortality of soul, trinity, etc;
by booker-t ini am just curious about this because although i agree with many of the posters here that the wt society is guilty of many horrible deeds, i still believe they are right when it comes to doctrinal things as i mention.
especially hellfire.
i just don't see how anybody that has studied the bible for many years like many of the ex-jws here can make an about face and go back to believing hellfire.

Especially hellfire. I just don't see how anybody that has studied the bible for many years like many of the ex-jws here can make an about face and go back to believing hellfire. I think many ex-jws want to totally distance themselves away from the WT and what better way then to believe in a doctrine the jws hold in contempt. The problem with this for ex-jws is that you are not hurting the JWs you are only hurting yourselves because it amounts to Blasphemy against Jehovah and Jesus to label them with the most horrendous, cruelity a person can afflict on another. People thought Hiltler was a monster for putting Jewish people in the ovens but at the same time they want to Blaspheme Jehovah and Jesus by teaching they will torture and burn people forever and ever. I just cannot see how any ex-jws or born again christian can continuosly teach a lie about Jehovah and Jesus. Jehovah and Jesus is the symbol of unconditional love and yet we are to believe the bible is hidding their other personality of torture. Are ex-jws and born agains teaching that Jehovah and Jesus have dual personalities? I just don't get it. And before ex-jws scream and shout I am brainwashed by the WT I have been out for years so please hold the label before you know all of the facts. I think it is all so sad. I love the fact that I can be out of the WT and still believe in the Bible for what it says and not what the WT did or did not do. Throwing the baby out with the bath water is how I see this problem. The bible I believe is truth man is the problem not Jehovah and Jesus.

Here we go again on "false prophecies"

Hi ex-jws on this board. I have a question that needs answering. For years I have read on this board ex-jws, born-agains, and other anti-jw group condemn jws for "false prophecies". I was talking to the circuit overseer that has known my family all of my life. He is a nice man up in age now but we talked for almost 3 hrs the other day. He feels he can convince me to come back into fold. An guess what we talked about? You guessed it "false prophecies". He asked me a series of questions concerning false prophecies and what makes a false prophet. Of course I went right away to Deut 18:20 and he agreed on the scripture and I said does not this scripture make JW's false prophets? He said no. And he showed me a scripture that I had never seen before at 1 Cor 4:8 here Paul is rebuking the disciples for apparently believing something wrong. They were not ruling as kings with Christ yet and some of them were going around saying this was going to happen right there and then. The Circuit Overseer asked me "Were these disciples false prophets?" He went on to say that if it is in the bible then it must have been circulating among the first century Christian disciples that the "rapture" or whatever you want to call it was going to happen then. Paul never dismisses them for their false expectation/false prophecy but reprimands them. According to Born-Again theology they gave a false prophecy. His point was they did the same as JW's in the past. He stay in 1 Cor and went to chap 13:9,10. Here Paul is saying we(Christians) prophesy partially and when it is complete the partial prophecy is done away with. This seems to back up what JW's say regarding "new light". So when Paul partially prophesies (it is imcomplete) or false until Jehovah gives him light for completion. I know this sounds weird but it seems to back up JW's "new light" theory. If the disciples were wrong on what was to occur at a certain time frame then either they were false prophets or had wrong expectations as JW's. Help
