Watchtower Bible And Tract Society of New York, Inc
Dear Brothers:.
We received your letter of December 17 in which you inquire about handling a situation involving a brother who has been guilty of serious violation of the law in the past.
You explained that you received information indicating that this brother ?committed several murders and crimes before his baptism.? You ask if ? law obligates some action on our part. law enforcement authorities have no knowledge of this matter.?
As elders, you have no obligation to reveal information of this type to the authorities. Any information that you have obtained while fulfilling your duties as elders is strictly confidential. What he does about paying his debt to Society is largely up to him and his conscience. Since he is apparently a fugitive from the law, he obviously would not qualify for any extra privileges of service in the congregation.
You state that you have ?one report of his smoking marijuana with his co-workers which may have been after his baptism.? We assume that is the reason that you feel a need to meet with him. Since he is a dedicated brother and he is presently attending the meetings, there is a need to investigate to determine if some type of congregation activity is necessary. Likely the best approach is to arrange for two elders to talk to him informally to make some discreet inquiries about his current conduct. If there appears to be substantial evidence of serious wrongdoing, then a committee should be formed to hear the case.
As we believe you understand, it is imperative that the elders maintain strict confidentiality about his past. If the elders inadvertently reveal his past wrongdoing, undoubtedly it will result in major repercussions to him and his wife. So handling this case calls for good judgment and discernment. We trust you brothers can handle things appropriately. Write to us again if you need further direction.
We pray Jehovah?s direction as you endeavor to fulfill your weighty responsibilities as shepherds of the flock. We send our warm Christian love.

Take Stoops for example. It is not owned by Watchtower but by an elder who donates money to Watchtower, and it employes a lot of JWs who also donate to Watchtower.
There are JW-owned auto parts places and health management companies doing not millions but billions to trillions of dollars in business worldwide.
The business, immediate and intermediate in extent, is enormous.

Most of the about $2,000,000 dollars (U.S.) that the Watchtower directly admits to appears to be and have been in non-liquid assets, meaning properties such as real estate (land/buildings), printing machinery and stocks in various companies such as in the airlines, copper mining, business machinery such as credit cards and bloodless surgery fields.
However the various Watchtower and Watchtower-connected corporations have also benefitted through fronting persons and businesses, moneys and properties willed to the Watchtower Society. Worldwide there are nearly 100,000 congregations and many of those own kingdom hall buildings and plots of land.
Values per small kingdom hall plot and building (there are also some expensive assembly complexes) will vary due to differences in currency nation to nation but just imagine if for just 30,000 buildings and land sections there is a value of $40,000 each: 30,000 x 40,000 = $1,200,000,000 or $1.2 trillion earthwide (not just the $2 billion for assets in the U.S.).
If you need precise Watchtower financial details you must ask Jaracz, Adams and their attorneys who in turn will tell you that you will not be told any such details. In the right context a Federal judge could order CPAs to dig up the information for you, at least so far the U.S. held businesses go. Otherwise you could spend a lifetime trying to find out everything and only scratch the surface.
The most knowledgable person I know of about Watchtower finances is Randall Watters who has http://www.freeminds.org ([email protected]).

An honest question...
by TallTexan inlet me preface this by saying that what i'm asking is a legitimate question.
i'm not doubting anyone, or accusing anyone of lying, or being an a-hole (well, no more than usual).
if you have a legitimate response to my question, please post or pm me, but please do not throw rocks or otherwise abuse me because this is an honest question regarding molestation w/in the jw community.. i was an active jw for 25 years and have continued to be associated with my still-jw friends for ten years since.

No other religion sends "repentant" pedophiles door-to-door preaching in trying to send members earthwide to all the doors the organization can reach. This means one single "repentant" pedophile has access to countless doors and households and children.
More precisely the 23,000 pedophiles in the Watchtower's own database is for pedophiles in the U.S., Canada and western Europe, as I believe Bill once noted, which means earthwide there are many more than 23,000 pedophiles. Experts state that each pedophile in his lifetime molests over 100 victims on the average.
Since 23,000 x 100 = 2.3 million most victims by those who became or continued as pedophiles as JW probably are not victims who are or were JWs, which may be part of why you had not heard of it as much.
Another reason is these things are kept hushed up, covered up by elders who often say "Just Wait On Jehovah" rather than report them at once to the police, to protect the image of the organization.
Members who have known these things have also been coerced to stay quiet or they will be disfellowshipped for "slander."
The Watchtower has lots of money for buying out most cases heading to court as part of cash settlements.
Previous to Bill Bowen you heard little about the conspiracy because elders who were otherwise well-meaning were afraid to go blow the whistle to the media and public although there were scattered newspaper articles prior to the publicity and I will gladly see you and other readers can a big stack of articles on this and other problems if you email me using the same handle name at yahoo.
Now you know WHY, what are YOU going to do about it?

Any picketers here? say from the southeast region of U.S.?
by Junction-Guy inwell i would love to picket some conventions in north and south carolina, i live in tennessee and the closest one away is johnson city about 80 miles from me, however there is a good possibility that some of my witness relatives from ky might be attending there.
the next closest ones to me would be winston-salem nc, columbia sc, or birmingam alabama.
these other locations are just a little too far for me right now and with gas so expensive i just dont think i could afford the extra expense right now.

Attn: Formidable Apostates
by Bubbamar ini read the thread yesterday about apostates and started wondering about your families.
i am thinking about writing a letter to my mom and sharing with her some of the things i have learned about the jw's but also realize that this will make me an apostate and will worsen an already distant and painful relationship.
i am hoping that some of you will share your experiences on what impact your outspoken "apostacy" has had on your families - how have they reacted to you.

Some left the Watchtower after I mailed information to family and friends without a return address, some did not and I had one who left but came back although he could see through it. I don't think face to face confrontations work. Just write out the facts and get it to them. They must then wrestle with the facts rather than yourself, they're informed, you'll feel better for having informed them, and your relationship will not be impacted negatively. Some who leave do not do so at once but having been informed mull it over then do so later.
