Crisis Of Conscience In Audio Format?
by dubstepped ini'm just wondering if the book is available to be listened to in any format?
i know that it can be found online and read freely, and i've been through some of it, but i just wondered if it was available in any other way.
i guess it would be lacking some of the copies of articles and such that were in the original book, but it would still be interesting.

Lol, oops, clearly I'm not into Doctor Who. I showed it to my wife and she got it right away. I'm still surprised that it was over my head. Normally I notice things like that. -

What instructions came with the new brochure?
by dubstepped inlike the title says, i'm wondering if anyone here knows what instructions came with the new brochure about returning to jehovah.
did each person get a certain number at the convention?
are they to be handed out at will, up to each publisher's individual discretion?

J.W. : Have a new brochure to reach out for those who have strayed for one reason or another .
Me : Oh no here we go ,I`m going to be inundated with brochures from family and former friends trying to get me back into the organization .
A few months pass and I have not received one brochure .
Me : What ?, I haven`t even received one brochure from anybody , friend , or relative , nobody has sent me a brochure , what`s wrong with me ? Why haven`t I received one ?
smiddy^^^This^^^ is exactly why I asked this question. My wife and I had a bet on how many we would receive. She thought ten. My guess was two, one sister that kind of stalks us and I figured a wildcard. So far we're both high on the guess since it is zero, but one person did attempt to befriend my wife on Facebook and someone else asked her if we were at the convention through social media right after the talk. Still, actually doing something and bringing us the brochure hasn't happened yet. I could have written the above Smiddy. We can't decide if we want to get them to know someone cares, or if we should just hope for the continuing success of our fade.
And as someone else mentioned, you get a free judgement with every brochure. How kind of them! Because, as we all know, they are the possessors of God, and leaving them means leaving him, so they know where everyone stands. There's really no need for Christ to judge at some point. JW's have already done it for him.

Like the title says, I'm wondering if anyone here knows what instructions came with the new brochure about returning to Jehovah. Did each person get a certain number at the convention? Are they to be handed out at will, up to each publisher's individual discretion? Might some inactive ones get hit with a pile of them while others go ignored? Is there any organization to make sure that everyone gets one? Are they putting inactive people's pictures up on "Wanted" posters on the information boards in the back of the KH? Maybe they could shoot them at people with those air guns like t-shirts at a sporting event? How is this supposed to work?
Thanks for shedding any light on this.

Is this a big reason that JW's are so attractive to some out there?
by dubstepped inin another thread i saw it mentioned that this elder and his wife were trying to preach to the poster here and said that they liked that jw's had answers to their questions.
i've heard that over and over throughout the years, and it does make sense on a level.
people in other religions sometimes have questions and are told that this or that is a mystery, or that they just have to have faith, etc.

In another thread I saw it mentioned that this elder and his wife were trying to preach to the poster here and said that they liked that JW's had answers to their questions. I've heard that over and over throughout the years, and it does make sense on a level. People in other religions sometimes have questions and are told that this or that is a mystery, or that they just have to have faith, etc. Not that the same can't ever happen in the JW faith, but I really think it is possible that a lot of people just get sucked in because JW's will come up with an answer for just about anything. In thinking about it, it made me realize that simply being in possession of an answer doesn't make a person right. However, for many people they've never been given anything, and I think that for many it boils down to something being better than nothing. At least JW's answered their questions. In the past I too had answers for everything. They were programmed into me. Now I realize that many of those answers had no foundation, but back then I knew that JW's had all of the answers. Too bad many of those answers should have been an honest "we just don't truly know that for sure" instead of "it is definitely (regurgitate whatever they read in a magazine without any fact checking). -

Elders, disfellowshipping, & baseball umpires
by sir82 inok bear with me for second on this one..... i was just reading the other day about "pitchf/x", a type of technology that can accurately track whether a pitch in baseball is a ball or a strike.. a couple of analysts went over 6 years of baseball data.. it turns out that umpires are wrong about balls & strikes about 14% of the time.
what they call a "ball" is really a "strike" about 13% of the time, and what they call a "strike" is really a "ball" about 15% of the time.
here is the article.. that's at the major league level.. umpires have to work their way up to the major leagues, just as players do.

Years back I was told the same thing when this lady committed suicide after she was disfellowshipped. The elder tried to convinced me that the lady would have committed suicide anyway because she committed porneia..
Well, she obviously wasn't very sorry for what she had done, right? Not that suicide would always be due to sorrow over what one had done, but it certainly rings true in some cases. I can definitely see people being so destroyed over what they had done, and maybe that they weren't really heard by the committee, that they take such a tragic step. Jw's are such callous people. That elder should never have tried to convince anyone as to her motives. It just shows the attitude that they think they know everything, things spoken and unspoken, in their infinite judgement. I wonder if maybe he felt guilty and was really trying to convince himself.
Anyway, back to the OP, I really love the comparison. These men have limited opportunity, and limited ability, to carry out what they're tasked with. And as far as Holy Spirit being behind it all, that's just dumb. I once asked why I was appointed a ministerial servant and was told basically that it was my hours and other participation. THAT is how they can see holy spirit active in a life. All they can do is make outward judgements based on whatever is presented externally. Many men have zero emotional intelligence, and those are who are making these judgement calls?! Men are often more interested in facts than feelings, and unfortunately repentance gets to feelings. It has taken me years as a man of study and reading to figure out how emotions work myself. When talking to other men they often get weirded out and can't go there. I'd hate to be in front of many of them trying to determine if I was genuinely sorry about anything in life.

Life after JW
by bsand20 inhaven't been on this site since fall of last year.
i was very active in spreading awareness and getting information to help me cope with the fact that my mother cut off complete communication with me as of jan 2014, but i guess too much of a good thing was too much for me to handle.
i ended up getting panic/anxiety attacks.

There are apps like Calm and Headspace that you can use to give meditation a try. Obviously there are lots of options out there, including different types of meditation, but my wife tried the former and I the latter and we both liked them. There were paid versions, but we just used the free aspects of them both.
I always thought that I could never meditate because my brain is constantly churning. What I learned that helped me was that it wasn't about not thinking, but rather observing your thoughts and going back to the breath. It helps me to be mindful of how I'm feeling and acting in daily life, like I can now step back and observe. It helps to keep me from getting too wound up at times. So I'll third the recommendation of meditation above as yet another way to help you move on in your life after JW.

Put a No JW sign on your door, tell your family not to discuss your mom for now and ask them to respect that boundary, drive a different way around the meeting place, and stay away from all JW sites and articles. Focus on the baby and later you can come back to this. If need be, go talk to a therapist about your mom and what happened there so that you can work through it safely. The anger will subside as you deal with the pain and hurt behind it. -

Thanks again Tim. I just listened to some of it. Wow, it is really disgusting what went on at the expense of others. It is nice to see that Franz saw a lot of things that I myself have seen in the organization and pointed out to my wife. The prevailing attitude is one of making and following rules, setting the GB up as our conscience, and they care about rules more than people, following traditions of men and protecting their appearance than how it destroys lives or families. I'm not surprised, but it's still hard to hear. -

Awesome, thanks tim! I'm really surprised that it isn't more readily available with it being such a big influence in this community. Whoever read it did a good job reading a difficult book that doesn't always flow well. -

Can you share them when you're done? If you get stuck I'd be happy to do some of them. I'm just not home from work yet, long day.
