Did anyone ever compare the pics from the magazine to a verified image of O'Toole? I don't see any verification here, though I don't doubt that they'd do such a thing. -

Ray Franz pointed out how few people come into the organization through the formal ministry. Most seem to come in because they work with a Witness, live near one, other informal settings, or through family. Billions of hours are spent and I've seen it calculated as to how many hours it takes to bring one person in, but still I wonder how many actually come from what one would call cold calling in the world. Seems most are warm leads at the least. -

Direction the elders rarely follow.
by notoneoftheboys inhere is a quote from a w/t article a few years ago.
in all the 8 kh i attended [work locations changed] not one body of elders followed this direction, so if they are not minding the sheep who is?
it galls me that they will quickly act if you grow a beard, or voice an opinion, or ask a question, but when your family fall foul of abuse where are the elders then?.

Do something "wrong" and they'll be at your doorstep to talk to you for sure, even if they have to come find you. I've known people that were stalked at work by elders who would wait outside for them to come out. It's a shame that they don't put that same effort into helping people that might actually want it. Then again, that might keep people from leaving, so maybe it isn't such a shame. -

by Sabin inmr vincent toole, he gets 3 meals a day his accommodation, daily exercise & a degree to be a lawyer.
they are asking for kids ice-cream money so they can send their monkeys to uni to get them off child abuse cases, while telling the ones giving the money not to get a higher education.
holy shit i never thought about that before.

Crisis of Conscience
by FreeGirl2006 indo you think that any of the clueless, amnesiacs that appeared before the rc will have a crisis of conscience over the abuse situation?
seriously, with the grilling they received from our new heroes, they would have to be sociopaths not to do some long hard thinking about the lack of empathy and compassion the borg displays as a top down policy towards abuse victims.
i can understand these idiots not having an awakening within the confines of their daily lives since they stay cloistered in their belief system, but the rc forced them into the real world with their questions and one would hope, made them think.

I would LOVE to know what that one red faced elder thinks now that he was put on the stand and embarrassed over not caring for any kids outside the Borg. If that didn't shake him to the core and open his eyes I don't know what it could take. He got destroyed on the stand and looked a fool. I hope it pays off in his daily life and opens his eyes to the other 8 billion (or whatever the number) people that live on this earth. -

Ain't no shunnin' like a J-dub shunnin' cuz a J-dub shunnin' don't stop.
So when you see a dub leavin' no matter the reason ya gotta give the dub his props.
So far I've experienced the "insta-shun", which occurs when you do something out of the ordinary that they've been told is wrong, even though it isn't so wrong that the congregation would act. No need to think, just shun, now, now, NOW! Still, shunning as an instant default is quite the protection.
As soon as my DA goes through, I'll then get to experience the "perma-shun", which never ends and is enforced by peer pressure.
There were lots of things that I "fun-shunned", things like getting too involved in sports or watching movies with any type of magic in them. The "fun-shun" is effective at avoiding any pitfalls in life because they always come with a side of fun. Get rid of fun and you can avoid doing something resulting in an insta- or perma- shunning later.
Ah shunning, such an easy way to put things in their respective places. You don't have to think, just act in avoidance so as to never be in danger of using your mind or conscience. Really a useful tool for those who are desperate to be "good enough" in the organization and who want to save their lives by avoiding problems. It worked really well for me until I started to pair my mind that always had some questions about things with my emotions that moved me to really start investigating and take issue with things enough to get out.

So, I became very ill ... what did my loving brothers do?
by EdenOne inrecently i have fallen ill with a serious case of chickenpox (shingles).
three weeks down, high fevers, and the blisters attacked mostly my scalp and face, but then also my whole upper body.
i looked horrid, truly like a mutant monster out of a nuclear disaster.

I had shingles in freaking middle school! Yep, what would that have made me, maybe 12 or so? Talk about horrifying. I had to go to middle school and get made fun of every day because one side of my face was all messed up. It sucked. So, I feel your pain. The good news it that in the many years since I've never had an outbreak.
I also feel your pain on the lack of love in the congregation. An organization marked by love, yeah right. "Worldly" people have ALWAYS reached out to me far more than JW's. OF course, in comparison to not reaching out at all, I guess that's an easy challenge. I've missed meetings for as much as a year and a half without acknowledgement of any type from the local congregation. If their "love" can't be quantified on a time slip, or you're not just fortunate enough to be in the "in" crowd, nobody will give you the time of day.

I wonder with all this sex abuse drama if Wt would ever apologize to Bill Bowen and Barbara Anderson.
by joe134cd inwt obviously must realize now the value of those that tried to enforce change on them.
i think if it wasn't for these people doing what they did wt would be in even more drama now.
so my question is do you ever think wt would voluntarily reinstate and publicly apologize to bill bowen and barbara anderson for all their hard work in bringing reform.

Lol, they would never even admit they were wrong in the first place, much less apologize to any individual. If any changes are ever made, they will likely be done without anything being made of them, or they will label them "new light" to show how great the organization continues to be. They don't apologize, they change and move on at best and take credit for any changes. -

My wife and I love these two as well. We also clean houses together just like they do. It was during a period of time when we were away from meetings that we were awakened, and for them it was a time when they were in the Spanish congregation and away from the English that they better understood. The trust we had in one another allowed us to take the concerns brought up seriously even if they may have been hard to hear at the time. So many parallels, but they appear younger than us. I wish we could get some years back. Oh well, we've learned a lot and so has this couple. The best lessons we've ever learned have been through the hardest times. -

Just wrote my DA letter....
by dubstepped inmy wife and i planned on fading but the elders now want a shepherding call and we are just done.
i know that many play the game to try to stay in, but i'm not a game player and neither is my wife.
our families already shun us because we reached out to a disfellowshipped family member.

Wow, UPDATE!
So this morning we took our second car to the shop for repair. (This is going somewhere, I promise.) We went to work and came home a bit early. We watched some videos online of a young couple that were posted here who left the organization. My wife told me on the way home from work that she was ready to disassociate, but I wanted to give her time. So, we're discussing dinner and everything that she throws out as an option is something we're out of, lol. She decides that she would like pizza, and I agree. So, she takes our one car out to get pizza. When she returns she asked if I had visitors. What visitors? Well, it turns out that the elder that called us yesterday that we ignored tried to stop by with his wife. Seeing no cars at the house, they moved on, despite the fact that I was sitting in here watching tv and waiting for pizza.
So, they are clearly coming after us even if we don't want it. Why? I don't know. However, they didn't take ignoring as an answer and suddenly after ignoring us for years we're a hot item. Our letters of DA are now stamped and ready to go out tomorrow in the mail. We've asked for a letter confirming receipt and the announcement. The circumstances that led to them missing us today, which wouldn't have been welcomed, just confirmed to my wife that Jehovah has got this. He has been there for us during this entire journey, even while those bearing his name have ignored us for years. The chance of all of those things happening in that timing tonight were very slim. So, although it still feels like a kick in the pants because nobody wants to have to make these decisions, we await official freedom from the bondage to a religion that only wants to talk to us if they think we may have done something wrong. We will be able to sit on our porch in peace.
