  What stories did you read to your kids, were read to you?

  i have fond memories of reading to my kids each night.

  i have a photo at my desk of my son, then 7yrs old, reading to his sister, 3yrs.

  They always suggest that parents read something (anything that won't harm them, even if its the newspaper) with their kids.

  Even if it's Bi-Curious George or James and the Giant Roll of Barbed Wire or Strangers Give Out the Best Candy ...

  I grew up on The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, Little Black Sambo, ... you know, the classics of literature.

  Watchtowers were for studying while wide awake so the little heads full of mush can soak it all in.

  More Ex-Witnesses than Witnesses?

  jehovah's witnesses use the number of the mighty 6 million (tm) to "prove" that god is blessing them over and above all other religions.

  but with so many being disfellowshipped and leaving over the past decades, how many ex-witnesses are there?

  with thousands growing wiser and more dissatisfied with wt doctrine, might the number of ex-witnesses over the years now equal the number of witnesses?

  Most of the relationships I've had have been pretty good. This on has had its ups & downs, but we've been married for 19 years ... so it's not like every day can be sunshine & roses, ya know?

  Astronomy: Three Dates: A Young Witness

  so, taking those title elements in reverse order: the young witness is me ?

  this story goes back to the early sixties.

  the three dates are: february 1986, august 11th 1999, and june 8th 2004. it's the fact that the last of those dates is , after all these years, finally nearly here that made me think of writing this post.

  The most useless thing you ever purchased

  so, what's the most useless thing you ever purchased?

  i'm not sure about mine, but for a while i was wanting to buy the "video nag".

  it was a $10 vhs tape, featuring 23 minutes of some ugly hag continually bitching.. btw, this is a recycled post.

  I have several levels. And I've done quite well with a basic four foot aluminum level for the past 20 years or so, for everything from building walls to setting fenceposts to hanging wallpaper. The laser level is cool, but is also redundant (to me) and is therefore useless ... definitely not something I would have spent money to buy.

  I can't recall buying anything that I would classify as "useless".

  I do receive a fair number of useless gifts, though ... like I really need another serving platter, especially in the shape of a snowman ... or that laser level? WTF was she thinking?

  the jehovah's witnesses have made a deal to sell their 1 million-square-foot building on the brooklyn waterfront to ral development services, a residential development company.

  the purchase price for the 12-story building, at 360 furman st., was not disclosed.

  I gotta ask, though: is that another of the things that have changed since I left the jw's? Telephone witnessing??

  It never used to matter what the dadgum weather was like. Even if the temperature and the humidity were both in the 90s, I waas expected to be out there in person wearing a coat & tie.
