For modern stuff, I loved Stevie Ray Vaughn. And I like Robert Cray, and there's some young white boys that are pretty good .. like Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Johnny Lang. Older blues stuff? No one has mentioned John Lee Hooker yet. Muddy Waters & Robert Johnson for sure. Gotta throw in Buddy Guy for good measure.

OMG! The Baptists!
by Ghosthunter inlast night, around 6:00, a couple of well-dressed young men knocked at my door.
i didn't think they were jw's, as they weren't carrying bookbags and they didn't have the "stepford jw" look.
but, i made my hub answer the door anyway.

Baptists showed up on my doorstep a couple of weeks ago & gave us lightbulbs, along with a card inviting us to their church. The card promptly went into the trash, but I put one of the lightbulbs in the hood over my range a couple of days ago.

How many raised in "the truth" have left??

JW's, like many evangelicals that hold to "free will" believe in some kind of magical and non-Biblical "age of accountability". At this age you, all of a sudden, realize that you are a sinner in need of a savior.
Yeah, but try telling an evangelical parent that you're ready to make an informed decision about sex when you're 14. All of a sudden, you're too young to know what you're doing!

1) Were raised in "the truth?"
I was. My grandfather had studied with the witnesses back in the 1930s, so I'm a 3rd gen dub.
2) Did you get baptized and at what age?
Nope. I'm thankful that my dad never pushed me to do it. He said I would know when the time was right & when I was ready to make the commitment. And I was never ready.
3) What age were you when you faded, were DF'd or DA'd?
I bailed pretty soon after I turned 18.

The best place to start is by talking to your family. Dig as far back as you can to start mapping out a family tree ... spend time with grandparents, great-uncles, great-aunts, etc asking about names & dates of birth & cities of residence. Tape record the conversations for future reference. Ask for copies of information from family Bibles, old photos, etc. THEN make your way to rootsweb and genealogy.com.
Also, there are a couple of very good offline genealogy resources in the US. Do I remember correctly that you live in the Midwest? The Ft. Wayne, Indiana public library reportedly has the 2nd best genealogy resource in the U.S. ... second only to the Mormon church.
