I read pretty much the same authors & types of books now as I did then. It's just that I no longer have anyone disapproving of my choices ... whether I'm reading Stephen King or Tom Robbins or James Joyce or DH Lawrence.

Any types of books, authors, etc. you enjoy now that you didn't as a JW?
by littlerockguy ini always loved to collect books.
if any jw came and looked at my bookshelf now they would turn probably turn white.

Joanna and Eyegirl are the greatest people ever! EVER!
by Cygnus ini just got home from a 5 day stint with joanna, eyegirl, and no apologies as well as joanna's manwhore and it was by far the best vacation i ever had and i had the most fun humanly imaginable.
joanna is the best host ever and eyegirl is great to swap silly stories with, among other things.
;) a public thank you for having me and this is not an invitation for anyone else to swamp them with invitation requests because they do lead busy lives and they are mine mine, you hear me, mine all mine!

Do you always think the worst
by Satanus ini know i do, as my very first reaction.
but, it is almost always wrong.
i have observed my reaction like this so many times, that, in the background, i'm waiting for the reaction to subside.

Yeah, waiting for the other shoe to drop is a bitch. Sometimes there simply isn't another shoe.
The thing that took me a long time to get past? I was so used to relying on myself ... thinking that no one else was interested in or capable of getting me out of a fix ... that it took me forever to learn that I can rely on others and delegate tasks or responsibilities to them. You learn to expect the worst of your fellow humans, and it's a tough habit to break. -

"I'll tell you, I'm almost ready to go up to these people and give them a piece of my mind!"
What's holding you back, Nos? Why not tell these folks to kiss your ass? I damn sure would!
Tonight, I went to a meeting at the kids' school. The topic was the 8th grade trip coming up next month, and I couldn't hear the speakers because the woman sitting across the table from me would NOT shut her mouth. Jibber-jabber, jibber-jabber with her daughter throughout the discussion ... I finally said "JEEZus KEY-rist!" and moved my hand in a gum-flapping immitation ... -

"Hymn and very short prayer."
Things must be different on the other side of "the pond". It always seemed like prayers dragged out forever .. in Jesus' name we pray, amen. Of course, that could be because I was always waiting for Sister X to uncross her legs or something, sneaking peeks out of the corner of my teenage eye. -

Would you have quit the JW's for a Worldly Person you loved?
by JH inwhen you were a devout jw, and if you would have met a man/women that really pleased you, would you have quit the jw organization for that person, if he/she asked you to?

I wonder if that's why my dad always sat in the second row? Hmmmm ... but he did reject the friendly advances he got from some of the widows & spinsters.

Maybe it's kinda like having your dog get hit by a car, knowing that you can go to the animal shelter & bring home another black lab that looks just like it. You suppose that Mrs. O will whap me upside the head in the morning if I leave a rawhide chew toy on her desk?

"By the way I had poke to the head of HR and was advied to immediately place her on corrective action and her work will be monitored for the next 3 months."
"I don't know what to do."
OK. Good ... I see that you've already involved HR. You HAVE to keep this on the totally professional level, despite any feelings on your part about the religious issues from either side. The standards are all about performance and responsibilities. If you breathe a word of religion or sympathy to either side, you're placing yourself and your employer at risk for a lawsuit.
As long as your HR rep is not a dub, you should also come clean with him/her about your own background. Share any insights that may be relevant as to shunning & other practices, but also remove yourself from the situation if advised by HR. The last thing you need is for your own career to go down the tubes or to face a civil suit over a wrongful dismissal on the grounds of religious discrimination.
