  Some of us are still stuck on the 'discovery' of America by Columbus when people were already here!

  As far as I'm concerned, this country was stolen and it's run by the same people who stole it and they do what they wish.

  Oh, I'll agree that there were already people inhabiting what is now the United States long before Columbus crossed the ocean. But, having descended from people who colonized New York and Connecticutt nearly 400 years ago, I really feel the need to ask you this: would you prefer living in a thatched hut or a lodge or a teepee, shunning the life that you now enjoy in this nation of thieves?

  How Do You Make Friends Now?

  codeblue's thread about the teenage years made me start thinking about another aspect of being raised jw.

  in the org we had ready made "friends" by virtue of our affiliation.

  i found that after leaving jw's it was hard to meet people and it took me a long time to make friends.

  I suppose you could make new friends by cutting up your old friends & assembling the body parts in new & interesting combinations.

  Or you could do what I have done over the years: go talk to people. Introduce yourself. Some will ignore you. Some will tell you to take a hike. And some will respond well. You make friends by being one.

  If you've been a jw for any length of time & have gone out in field service, making new friends is really not that different ... you put forth the effort & start a conversation ... and the plus is that you won't have a fistfull of Watchtowers when you walk up to people, so most of them won't immediately run away screaming.

  you know, i have the lingering suspicion i will never have children.

  that's right, no little bradley's or bradettes to worry about.

  here's my logic: i left the dub's two years ago (almost) and am still a couple years away from a degree.

  Finally you said something with which I disagree. I don't think the earth is overpopulated. I DO think that our resources are poorly allocated, and parts of the earth are incredibly overcrowded ... but spread the people out & make sure that everyone has enough food & adequate shelter ... there's still room.

  If you know that your ambitions are focused more on career & other things, then more power to you. It's a valid reason to not have kids.

  i believe that true love is like playdough......... you can stretch it, pull it, pound it flat, wrap it around things.. it's never to short and never too long.

But here's a joke for ya, Sally: A study conducted by UCLA's Department of Psychiatry has revealed that the kind of male face a woman finds attractive can differ depending on where she is in her menstrual cycle. For instance, if she is ovulating she is attracted to men with rugged and masculine features. However, if she is menstruating, or menopausal, she is more prone to be attracted to a man with scissors lodged in his temple and a baseball bat jammed u p his ass while he is on fire.
